Catastie Day 4: Morning Market
On the third day afternoon in Catastie, I decided to stick to just wandering around the shopping district like I did in the morning.
Although I made some new discoveries, I thought it would be better to prioritize browsing before buying souvenirs.
Well, there were so many foreign items that caught my eye.
I didn't find anything that I usually deal with in my shop, but I'm not here specifically to look for merchandise anyway.
If I happen to come across materials that could be used for leather armor, it might be worth buying, but I feel like that's something I should leave to Alizée.
Hmm, Alizée is truly versatile.

The next morning, I headed to the fishing port early in the morning without having breakfast.
I found out yesterday that there's a morning market held at the fishing port where fresh fish are sold.
Of course, my aim is to enjoy meals made with those fish.
There's no point in buying fish today because I don't have any seasonings.
Even in the hotel room, there were only basic seasonings, so I doubt they could make a delicious fish dish.
Therefore, I plan to savor delicious fish here.
I wonder what kinds of fish are available?

"Here we go! Freshly caught King Chobis! Perfect for grilling with salt as a side dish for alcohol!"

"Over here, we're disassembling a Small Whale! It's a big catch that you can only see at this time of year, so come take a look!"

"We're selling Smoked Reimos tails! Rare items that are seldom put up for sale, buy them if you can!"

Hmm, it's lively here, just as I expected!

The King Chobis was a large sardine, about the size of my forearm.
It's recommended to sprinkle salt on it and grill it slowly over an open flame.
Sounds like mackerel?

The Small Whale was indeed a small whale, as the name suggested.
However, it was not a mammal but a fish.
It was born from eggs and breathed through gills.
It looked more like a rounder tuna than a whale.

It turned out that the Smoked Reimos was indeed a genuine member of the tuna family.
You can eat the whole body, but the way to eat it varies greatly depending on the part.
It's said that you should smoke the collar and then grill it again before eating to let the excess fat drip off, making it easier to eat.

I bought the Smoked Reimos collar as a souvenir for Alizée, and after watching the Small Whale disassembly show, I bought the lean meat and the left-over flesh of the spine.
I was assured that the Small Whale could be eaten raw as sashimi.
It's been years since I've had sashimi.

I packed the souvenirs in an ice bag and put them in my backpack, then it was time to go for breakfast, which was my main goal.
The restaurants at the morning market were lined up on the harbor side.
It seems that each shop served dishes mainly using fish caught that day.
I wonder if there's a sashimi set or something like that?

As I walked through the restaurant district in search of delicious fish, I caught a pleasant smell of sauce caramelizing.
What could this be?
I immediately headed towards that shop.

"Oh my, welcome. Five people... and one creature?"

"Um, what can we eat at this shop?"

"Oh, here, our main dish is Grilled Sea Eel. We serve Sea Eel grilled with a soy-based sauce. It goes well with rice."

Sea Eel is a type of fish similar to eel.
In other words, it's unagi!
I have to try this!

The dish served was unmistakably unagi.
According to the staff, the Sea Eel served varies depending on the season, but it's available all year round.
Currently, it's the season for North Eel, which has a sweet, tender flesh.
Indeed, the sweet-salty sauce combined with the thick and tender eel was irresistible!
I ended up ordering extra eel and rice, and I might have eaten a bit too much.
But it was such a satisfying dish!
