Lore post #1

It is time for a new kind of update: We have been working on the game’s setting, lore and story for quite a while now and it is time we present it to you. We will start to do so with a mini series, where we present a location on the world map with each post.

We will not spoil the main plot of the game with these, but spoilers concerning the setting and backstory are inevitable. So if you prefer to explore the world completely un-spoiled, once the game is done, do not read further!

Today, let's talk about…

Umbar

City of Pleasures

Founded shortly after the crash, Umbar started as a small village like any other on the eastern coast of the continent. Over time, it has grown into the biggest settlement on Kerpal and the center of human civilization on the planet. Where other settlements consist of simple huts, Umbar has the architecture of a proper city.

Much of its recent growth can be attributed to the mayor of Umbar, a large bull Kerpali, and his vision for organized farming. Umbar succeeded in implementing this vision, clearing large sections of the forest for fields and cattle. Once established, this abundant food source gave its inhabitants the spare time to indulge in the development of an artistic community.

The plaza of Umbar is the historic center, surrounded by a communal kitchen, bathhouse, guest house, winery and shops, where people can get properly outfitted for their nightly visit to the temple.

Said temple is the largest building of all and houses a communal space for festivities as well as the mayor’s private rooms. The hedonistic bull greatly enjoys being celebrated as the master of ceremony during the wild orgies that are being held here in the evenings.

Further away from the plaza, a couple more buildings are scattered along the main road, offering housing to all kinds of artisans.

The free spirit and “everybody welcome” attitude of Umbar attracts people from all over Kerpal, leading to a colorful mix of all Kerpali cultures. Self expression and individualism are highly valued here and many come to visit, eager to spend their pearls on the many pleasures this bustling city has to offer.

That’s it for today - next time, we will tell you more about an other important location of Kerpal, so stay tuned! As always, thanks for your support and we hope you enjoy these little peeks into the lore of the game :)

I have to agree with 85Support on this one. A utopia where there’s no strife is boring. I just hope that there’s conflict in the lore, I mean you do have some of the characters already I’d make the bad guys…

Ohhh wooow! It looks so pretty!

I am really liking how this place looks. I get the feeling Wild Life's world can be a savage, unforgiving place made even more so by the arrival of raiders/mercenaries with pillaging on their minds. Its nice to see the contrast here, which is a beautiful place by comparison. If it serves as the initial starting point in the game, it'll be whiplash when you step outside of it and get accosted by angry natives or ferals. If its something you find later on, it'll be a sight for sore eyes after fighting through the jungles. I really like the more primitive settlements we've seen thus far in the Kerpali village and the Fisher village, but this is a nice change of pace. Regardless of how it places into the overall story, I'm looking forward to more world building.

I’d really like to see more Yason animations or maybe a new character with those animations. I swear you guys have forgotten all about him.

Reminds me of Tulum in Mexico on the Riviera Maya! 😉

so nice, cant wait for the alpha and beta and full game release! - i hope the full game becomes an upgrade for mod support, like skyrim or resident evil :)

I'm not sure that it's the best idea to name a city - especially one in a tropical region - Umbar...

Forest

lord of the rings update: The area and port on the coast of Harad is called Umbar. Umbar is often misunderstood as Umbarlonde, the main port of Umbar.

Actually it is not clear, but very likely, that the name Umbar was commonly used as the name for the city as well.
