$22k goal - chandelier for the entrance way. Make it glow!

Anonymous

hi stephanie. i love your blogs! I've always thought it a bit strange how the chapel opens up on to grass, maybe for the 22000 target, you do a stone or pebble pathway surrounded with a box hedge or flowers that connect to the chateau. I think that will make it stand out and look more impressive.

Anonymous

Loving your videos from Florida!

Anonymous

Sooo exciting all that is going on and can’t wait to see the courtyard I bet it’s made a huge difference and I think the planting sounds wonderful ! Question ..,,, did the shutter fasteners ever get sorted ? Would hate to think if the lovely old shutters blowing around in the storms ? Thank you for sharing !

Anonymous

Wow...great to see everything moving ahead . I bet the courtyard looks great.

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie my question is, when will you catch up with opening all the gifts? I sent a birthday gift and it looks like it will turn into a Christmas gift lol x

Anonymous

Stephanie, thank you for sharing about the exciting things happening!! I know the foundation will in some ways limit how funds are used, but the idea of tax free is something to be happy about!!! For the next target, maybe something pick something meaningful that will make this upcoming holiday season even better than last year, that can continue for all holidays to come? Not sure what that is, but maybe think of something you wished last year that you had accomplished, and then make that the target? For the Q&A, you mentioned a wall coming down next to your bedroom?? Could you go into any more detail about what those changes are?

Anonymous

My suggestion for 22k is to start an apartment for Gerry to call his own xxx

JC

Would love to see the extra footage from your landscape consultations :)

Anonymous

$22,000 target suggestion is a sign for LaLande at the entrance of the chateau Perhaps commission an artist that could use your fathers artwork as inspiration or ask artist patrons to design and then we get to vote on final piece 😍

Anonymous

Can't wait to see the courtyard! :)

Carrie Miller

Target Ideas: custom frames for some of the toile/artwork, maybe some of the past propositions that didn't win, like the chandelier. Q&A Questions: Did you watch Naughty Marietta? And if so, what did you think? Since the apt that was going to be for Michael Potts is now a rental space, what room does he take when he's at Lalande? Will Selmar stay in his camper in the winter? Maybe he and Deisal could take the ground floor Marquis's apartment?

Anonymous

Question for the upcoming Q&A: What sort of systems are in place for the safety of the Chateau against fire, carbon monoxide, etc. Attic fire alarms? Alarms in each bedroom? A safety system for a possible electrical system fire? Fire extinguishers in each room, etc. Regularly scheduled fire drills for inhabitants for exactly what to do in the event of a fire? Fire is your very worst enemy, I imagine, so I'm just curious. YES to posting extra footage for the Patreon page! That would be fantastic! Congrats for doing such a fantastic job, you three, towards the restoration of the incredible Chateau de Lalande! Teresa (Nashville, TN)

Anonymous

i think its the wall in the narrow hall outside stephanies bedroom/ study and dressing room x

Anonymous

Could some of the budget be used to fix the underpinnings of the patio? I understood it to be crumbling and I must say the steps look quite unsafe. Will Semar be wintering in his caravan again this year? Or will he move inside? How is Marie’s floral business coming on? Is there a plan in place to set up an apartment for Oliver and his family? Are you doing well?

Anonymous

Such a lot of information Stephanie, it's truly wonderful how things are coming together and projects are beginning. I can't wait to see the courtyard . I'll get my thinking cap on for the next target and for the Q&A. The rain is hammering down here in Worcestershire UK at 1.30 am but seeing your cheerful face fills my room with sunshine 🌞

Anonymous

- Great idea for the Non-Profit Foundation to restore the Chateau. I agree 100%! - Yes, please share the cut footage of Dan, Davy, you & Mummy discussing ideas for the grounds. - I like when the LaLanders present ideas for renovations and then we vote. - St Cecilia looks amazing! Well done! - So exciting to see all of the changes happening! Thank you for sharing, Stephanie 💗

Jane Nunn

Yes the extra footage would be lovely. ......22,000 I would like to suggest some funds for chimney sweeping Have you had all the chimneys checked before winter? Your update reminded me of it and I would like to see the boat house restored x

Georgette Jones

Are you going to fix up the area above the range in the kitchen? I was also wondering about the shutters, how are you doing on that? I would love to see all the little halls , stairways, nooks and hear what you see doing with them ! You know I am addicted to the chateau and I just found out that my Grand mares cousin lived in a chateau but could only heat half of it because of the cost, I am trying to find out where it was and her name, small world❣️ Hope you have a good week👍

Anonymous

Wow, just wow! So much is happening and it is so exciting! Thank you for sharing and always being so open with us! Looking forward to seeing the courtyard!

Anonymous

This update was worth waiting for. I love the sense that everyone is helping to build something beautiful together - thank you, Stephanie, for being the fearless leader who can unite everyone in cheerful industry! You asked for 3 things. (1) 22K goal - you already mentioned the china pantry, or else I would have said let's do that. What about the bookshelves for the winter salon, isn't that room where you wanted to make a library? I'd love to see all those beautiful books in one place. (2) Q&A - once a foundation is created, will the B&B side of things struggle to prosper? Will it have trouble paying for Nati - I do hope not. I've never minded what our patron funds are used for, so although the foundation will be great for preserving the funds, I just wonder if it will cause hardship on the business side of things. Such a balancing act! (3) Bring on the extra footage! It will be wonderful. Thanks once again! <3

Anonymous

I don’t know if you saw the last gift opening, but a sign was sent for hanging out by the gate

Anonymous

Extra footage wood be great!!!! So excited with the new development's. Can't wait!

Anonymous

This is all very exciting! I would like one of the potential 22000 targets to be perhaps the Garden Pergola we’ve heard so much planning on OR some sort of flooring for Selmar’s woodworking hut. I’m worried that as winter is coming it will really limit his abilities to cut and build safely! Question for the Q&A. Many of the volunteers that have come over the years have made lasting impressions on the chateau, which ones stand out in your mind that we didn’t get a chance to see back before you started vlogging? Also, what skills/trades are you still looking for as potential opportunities down the line?

Anonymous

A great video yet again! You truly do deserve all of our support.

Anonymous

Great up-date! Regarding ideas, every time you show the courtyard or mention the new entrance doors I think how nice it would look with a large pots or urn with a slow growing tree in either side of the door! Something like a Taxus baccata Festigiata (slow growing Yew) in each. It would Give great definition and really make the main entrance stand out. The dark green of the plants would tie in well with the box hedging? Anyway loving every minute and I’m loving helping in a small way as you are helping me in a huge way. Lots of love

Anonymous

Yes please share the extra videos. I love the idea of creating a path leading up to the chapel. Questions Did the shutter dogs get done? Will you do a Christmas service in the chapel? What did Diesel get into that had him covered in feathers? Do we know if we have all Ian’s or are some females?

Anonymous

My goodness you just made me realise the time!! I told my husband I’d be up hours ago!! It was worth it though!

Anonymous

I do not remember the name of what you wanted to do above the range in the kitchen but since it is something you where hoping to do before maby you could do it now?since you will have workers for the bigger fridg anyway?

Anonymous

I think having a pathway to the chapel should be a target. Or pavers for just outside the doors to make a bit of a landing where you can scrape your feet before coming in the kitchen and main doors.

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie! I'm so SO excited that so many incredible things are happening at La Lande! My question for you is this: How is the chateau library coming? I know you have so many books, and as someone who studies literature, I'm so excited to see them have a home! I wonder if you'd consider letting me come organize all of your books to make a beautiful library (even just a temporary one). I think it would be such good fun!

Anonymous

Wow!! I'm still taking this all in. AMAZING. I am so, so happy for you Stephanie, and for the Chateau! What a beautiful karmic agreement we all have for Lalande. ✨💛✨ Vive la Chateau de Lalande!

Anonymous

I was wondering this too? I’m retired now but that was my job all my working life, including at the British Museum in London. It would be dreadful!

Anonymous

Steven did a great job on the face of StCecilia,he is very talented, just like most of the volunteers that come to Lelande.I really like the idea of seeing the behind the scene planning stages of the garden with Dan,Mummy and Davy.Having the finances set up into two separate businesses is a great idea then a much larger portion of Patreon funds will go to the Chateau improvements ,it's so exciting to see such progress can't wait to see more.

Anonymous

Wonderful!!!! The dishwashing area..a new counter! We love you!

Anonymous

Love these update videos! I know there was a lot of work still to be done in some of the attic rooms. Could rennovations begin on one of those rooms to give you more.options for when you need to clear out for guests? Is there aomething small that would make the chateau more comfortable in winter for everyone? I second everyone's comments about seeing more footage. Even if it is just a rough edit I'd love to see those bloopers and extras that don't make it into the vlog.

Anonymous

Thank you so very much for your vision for this beautiful home. I’m so grateful for your including us! The St Cecilia face is splendid! You, Mummy, Selmar and all your compatriots are delightful. I miss Percy so badly and hate that he can’t come. Whatever you think is most urgent is my vote for 22k!

Anonymous

So much good news! But mostly I'm very happy that Dan will be continuing over the winter. Extra footage that doesn't fit in the vlogs will be fantastic, maybe even a blooper reel?! Q&A: With so many projects going on around the house, which is the one you have enjoyed the most that has recently been completed and one that you are looking forward to the most in the near future?

Anonymous

Oh, wow! So exiting with everything going on :D I had an idea for the next target. Since you are already doing up the courtyard, how about extending the project, all the way over the bridge, and renovate the gates, and put up some lovely urns. It might even ned a couple of tall, slender cypress trees, lining the front of the property. Maybe some antique looking lanterns? Just to enhance the feeling of fairytale chateau, without obscuring the view too much.

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie. Questions: are all the shutter clips in stalled ? How about the back terrace foundation is it being repaired?

Anonymous

From a question standpoint, have you thought about organized day trips from the chateau? What would a perfect outting look like from Lalande for someone making a quick visit?

Kelly Kehoe Nichols

Yes to extra footage (that is always a yes!) Would think the next target should be for whatever the quote comes back for the chimney repair. Thank you for sharing your world with us. ❤️ from The 1000 Islands, NY. Question - do you have a favorite moment from all of the filming you have done? Something unexpected that might have taken you by surprise?

Anonymous

Extra footage would be amazing!!! Do you have updates on the terrace or the shutter dogs? It is so exciting to see all the progress. Very cur

Anonymous

Wow. So much to take in and so much to wait and see in the next few weeks. But ever so exciting. I hope the foundation works out as this means all the patreon money can be spent on the chateau and it is currently enough to make a huge difference. I like the idea of the 22k target being doing something with the gates to match the courtyard, even it if is just cleaning/ sandblasting and painting.

Anonymous

I would love to see the footage of Davey! For 22k maybe something absurdly luxurious for the powder room? A lovely mirror, rug, or faucet?

Anonymous

When will we be able to see the entrance hall?? 😍

Anonymous

Great news about hopefully keeping all the money! As for the 22k target, this might sound very boring, but maybe a fire safety/protecting survey of the chateau, to look at what else might be needed to try and protect this gem. Also, I do hope the monthly donations continue to grow, but i feel that maybe we should start to aim for just monthly projects on there own? Maybe have money/project targets for every €5,000 increase? I.e 25k 30k Just a thought!!!! Love the idea of the Amphitheatre. could you, put a stepped white flower terrace in front of the chapel that would then swing round into the new amphitheater. As if it was a continuous line, with pencil cypress pines at the point the two meet...

Anonymous

Stephanie, I wanted to mention this when you took us on a guided attic tour to the servant quarters some time ago and you said there were bats that could not be removed as they are endangered. It seems weird to keep a domesticated area of a building/home/chateau left to the vagaries of wildlife. (smile) There are beautiful bat houses that would provide shelter and colony protection and allow removing them from the attic and provide a better environment for them. Once removed, openings are sealed to prevent them from coming in again and they naturally find new nesting/living arrangements.

Anonymous

I agree. This would be a wonderful bonus to celebrate $22k

Anonymous

Thing's are movin' & shakin' at Lalande!! I'm so happy you looked into the non-profit; I've been saying for a while that surely the Chateau could start a foundation, non-profit, or similar. A walk-through with Davy would be great!

Anonymous

All extra footage would be welcome. 😁 Im so excited for you all. 😁

Anonymous

the grand salon panelling!!

Anonymous

Reposting in the correct place :) ... My idea for the next goal is a black metal marker/sign inscribed with Chateau de Leland in gold lettering. It could be placed on one of the entrance pillars. Thank you Stephanie for the update. All the ideas coming together is just so exciting!...And I do have one question... Do you think there will ever come a time when you will relocate the bats and start restoration on the servant's quarters? Love and hugs to all!

Anonymous

Your kindness shines bright and is a Blessing to this world 😇💜🙏🏼🌞💫 ✨

Anonymous

Sounds like everything is coming along so well! As for the target suggestion: Is there an general engineer in France who could assess the structures, systems (electrical and plumbing) that could help you decide what are the most pressing items? I'm sure you probably had the French equivalent of a home inspector when you purchased the home, but it might need a "check up." I'm just amazed at how well you have organized and brought the Chateau to its current glory. I have my hands full with the home I just purchased and its only 2,000 sq. feet. It's incredible what you have done. I know you have had helping hands, but without your passion and drive, it might have gone to ruin.

Anonymous

Thank you for your lovely update. For a q&a question I often wonder how you're doing with all of this change and to know you're being supported behind the scenes too with all this huge life change. There are good target suggestions ☝️

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie! Wonderful update on all the work at La Lande, it was hard to keep up with so much going on there, its amazing! For the $22,000 target could be a new sign for La Lande, especially welcoming those who are coming to stay as volunteers or B&B guests. Q&A Question: Would you be open to making a video of your local area, showing interesting historical places, great places to eat, shop and play? I'd like to learn more about what your local area has to offer tourists and locals.

Anonymous

also i was wondering could the walls for the courtyard maybe be done right away with the nest egg so the whole thing can be done at once

Anonymous

Wonderful update. I can't wait to see the courtyard. For the next target, I would vote for completing the work on the terrace. Questions for the Q&A: Do you have any trips planned for your vlog with Oliver and How is Percy doing? Yes, on the extra footage. I love watching everything you put together.

Anonymous

These monthly updates are so exciting! Some ideas for the $22,000. mark, (1) how about replacing all of the other outer doors with those new well insulated ones? or (2) have the attic well insulated - not exciting I know, but well worth the money! Steve's drawing of St. Cecilia @ 17:35 is gorgeous! what talent wow! All of the news was wonderful this month - the not for profit foundation, the lake, the chapel, the courtyard. Things really are moving right along!

Anonymous

Congratulations on all your progress, Stephanie. I look forward to this months series of vlogs. 😺. Perhaps for the $22K you could share the footage of the landscape consultations. And/Or paint the garden gates to coordinate with the chateau trim. Many blessings to you and your family. 😊

Anonymous

We had a beautiful yellow jasmine... sadly we found that variety was toxic for our bees. Something to consider as you pick your jasmine. Don’t think they are all toxic.....

Anonymous

I think the paneling for des Oiseaux would be nice for the 22K then that room can be finished off... well maybe curtains for it too. We would love a curtain making vlog 😉

Anonymous

I am SO excited about the possibility of future renovations to the kitchen. And wonderful news about the non-profit! I hope it all turns out to plan. Thank you for the wonderful update.

Anonymous

Lovely to hear of the flurry of activity! I would enjoy seeing extra footage of the garden planning. Agreed with Erin on Les Chambre Des Oiseaux as a target for the 22K: paneling, curtains, wallpaper, maybe a vetiver candle or two too!

Anonymous

Thanks for all the updates. Would love to see the extra footage of anything you have. Haha. Can’t get enough of the chateau. Question: Have you ever thought of looking throughout France for salvaged paneling to install in La Lande? It would be a great field trip for you, mummy, Selmar and maybe Nick, Michael Potts or Michael Pethrick? Suggestons: I think more planning for the back patio is needed. It needs to make more of a statement. I think some sort of balustrade and stonework would be nice. Chateau de Basmaignee has a beautiful balustrade system. The side porches are very delineated. La Lande’s patio is such a valuable entertainment area, and I think it would be money well spent.

Anonymous

Extra footage is always welcome. So glad the courtyards are underway and the drawing for the St Cecilia face is beautiful. I think the chimney repair should use some of target money. The foundation sounds a good idea but really I’m happy for you to use my small donation however you wish. Thanks for a wonderfully informative update ❤️

Anonymous

For next week instead of a Q & A could you do an interview with Cat or Phillipe or both would be wonderful !! Love how everything is charging forward now..

Anonymous

For the new target, landscaping for the chapel or plans and preparation for a maze. You deserve something very grand for all your hard work!

Anonymous

Hello Amanda. The good news is that Stephanie did recently received a wizzy new La Lande sign in one of the recent Cadaeux videos on the Chateau Unwrapped channel

Anonymous

I would love to see an interview with Cat! Her personality and sense of humor is wonderful! :)

Anonymous

Ohhhh, the Courtyard!!!! I'm so excited to see it!!! OMG! That will be absolutely beautiful! And yes, extra footage is wonderful. Here's an idea that just volunteered ... Dan's two boys ... wouldn't it be nice to contribute some sweet boys' clothing ... corduroy long pants for winter with warm jumpers, snow pants? Boots? And toys? Or if a gift money contribution were given to Annelise so she might select things that those two sweet, adorable boys would like? As little toddler Jack says, "ya essss!" Thank you for being an amazing Chatelaine to Lalande; how fortunate it was for Laland to have your love and vision! (I'm so excited about the gravel I can hardly think of more projects right now!) Also St. Cecelia is breathtaking! Love to you and Mummy!

Anonymous

Hi Suzie, I just had to google that tree as I had not heard of it before. Looks perfect for pots. I have been thinking about the whole garden at La Lande and thought as the area gets so hot in summer that perhaps a Tuscan style garden would be perfect. Cypresses could be a feature and statuary , fountains, with rosemary, lavender, buxus and tall hedging to make rooms like the Borboli Gardens in Florence. I would love to go and help Dan the Gardner and Isabel with the gardens. I really hope that the lake comes back full size and the boathouse is rebuilt. What fun to row around and go to the "island" for picnics. Regarding a climber for the front of the chateau, I hope she picks a Chinese Star Jasmine and not the common jasmine which becomes very unruly if not maintained. And Star Jasmine has a nicer perfume. Just having fun with ideas for Stefanie's garden. Anne x

Anonymous

Congratulations - great to hear that progress is being made on all fronts. The landscaping of the courtyard is the perfect opportunity to emphasise the main entrance to the chateau with a stone paved landing outside the new doors - it will prevent the wonderful new gravel from tracking inside. Similar smaller paved versions outside the most used doors will do likewise. Versailles planters (with suitable plants) would be a quick and easy enhancement, especially if provision is made for a future watering system.

Anonymous

Hi, I am so exited with all this news. You deserve all and more for what you give back to us. A q & a with Cat and Hanni would be great.

Anonymous

I am thrilled about the foundation. I hated the idea that half of the Patreon money was going to taxes. It is an historical building after all. I LOVE jasmine and yes please for extra video. Can't think of any questions or ideas just now but will sleep on it. This is all so exciting. Feel like I am "almost" there with you.

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie ♥️ So genuinely thrilled to hear of all the activity and possibilities happening- wow. Very pleased that you’ve sort a solution that will make the most of the restoration monies. So many exciting things in the works!! Ok my questions: 1. an update on the shutter dogs please. 2. When will the internet satellite be installed? 3. Has Isabel been able to reduce her workload around the chateau and take time for herself? 4. What does Stephanie like to do for relaxation? See you next week 🕊❤️

Anonymous

This was a great update. I do hope the foundation works out that would be truly amazing. For the $22,000.00 goal how about starting to repair the terrace before winter comes. You all spend so much time there it would be a travesty if it fell apart. For the Q&A i have a few questions. 1. what happened to the shutter dogs? 2. will your future vlogs show the photography show that LaLande is hosting this month? 3. What are the plans for your vlog with Michael P? 4. What is your plan to display your toile collection? It is such a pleasure to watch all the love and joy everyone is putting into this restoration and every week i look forward to watching all of the vlogs especially sundays. Best Steve

Anonymous

Dear Stefanie, thanks for today's update . So much going on and how exciting that the courtyard has been resurfaced. Can't wait to see the video of its making. The accountants advice will be so valuable in regard to the future of the restoration. I always thought that your projects should be supported by the French government in some way and previously suggested applying for grants. So commencing a foundation and having income from patrons become tax free is a sensible idea. As a retired banker I have seen so many schemes to avoid tax that have not been well thought out and ended up with the proponents in trouble with the authorities and fined massive amounts. But that is in Australia and I know nothing about French tax laws which must be very convoluted. By saving 50% of the funds set aside for tax, you will have so much opportunity to commence new projects so much sooner than before. So excited for future updates on your progress. Good luck with your non profit foundation . And the lake proposal and I agree with you that it needs to go back to the way it was originally. With the addition of an island in the middle!! I wish I could come and help with your gardens and all your ideas for rooms and amphitheatre . Sounds perfect! Rug up and stay well! Cheers from Tasmania. xx

Anonymous

Marvelous update Stephanie. My question is "How many rooms are left to restore in the Chateau?"

Jana Miranda

Exciting news about the potential for a non-profit foundation! For the next target goal, may I suggest the removal of the chain link along the top of the garden wall facing the Field of Cloth of Wool (a.k.a. the domain of Aloysius). It would need to be replaced with fencing that matches the gates to keep the neighborhood deer away from mummy's veggies and Marie's flowers.

Anonymous

Im so glad to hear all of this. Kudos to all!

Anonymous

Such excellent news, I can’t wait to see the courtyard 😁 I also think any extra video footage would be great to see; your videos and the environment of Lalande is such a welcome distraction from the stresses of everyday 😁

Anonymous

Finishing each room would be my wish. You have talked about details, paneling, shelving, curtains and it seems a good idea to complete the rooms that are nearly done. I'm happy for you to have a foundation so more money will be put directly on restoration. Your accountability is appreciated. I'm so grateful to you and all the owners, volunteers and friends for everything they do to improve the chateau.. There are people like Thomas who could easily transform rooms, Philip with his excellent taste, Dan improving the grounds every week, the darling Mary and her florals and Mommy's gardens. Selmar is a gift to La Lande with his many excellent skills and charming personality. I do find it time for the bags to come off Nick's head.

Anonymous

As an historic preservationist in America, I am so glad that you are establishing a foundation for the Chateau. This will make the fundraising more "respectable" and give you more leverage in your planning. You should be able to attract more funding from other sources, too. While it's great to have lots of projects, I get concerned that you may be getting ahead of yourself. Tackle five - six projects with funding, then move on. Otherwise, you may be in the midst of several projects and run out of funding to finish some.

Anonymous

Curious: what was the disposition of the Chateau during WW II?

Anonymous

When will the new season of ettcdiy air? And are you thinking of appearing in next season as well?

Anonymous

Yes would love to hear davy's plans for garden.

Anonymous

What is the update with window shutterdogs?

Anonymous

in terms of grants i wonder if there are grants that you and the local government could apply for to help with the restoration of the lake. Also have you thought about partnering with an architectural school or historic preservation program to document the chateau? Also the same question with an school archeology program - maybe they could come and do a dig on the site and maybe find the base of the stone towers at the lake. I know that here in the US schools partner with historic properties all of the time to provide historic research. Everyone benefits. Best Steve

Anonymous

Absolutely yes for extra footage, like I wrote previously on one of your other post. Less work for you and more fun for us! :) I don't have a question, but I am very pleased for all these good news and I can't wait to see the courtyard!!! :)

Anonymous

Brilliant news on the Foundation, so that all of our contributions can be used solely for the renovations at the Chateau. Congratulations. Things will really begin to take off soon! ❤

Anonymous

For 22k maybe the entrance gates could be made more grander? Like peacock statues on either side of the gate. Or maybe even install an automatic gate? Although i'm not sure if that can be covered by foundation or not.

Anonymous

Yes, yes, and yes to extra footage, always! And my question for the Q&A is what is your favorite moment from the vlogs that you were so happy you were able to capture, or put another way what moment do you think 15 years from now you’ll be most glad you can rewatch over and over again? Thanks for all that you do!

Anonymous

I’d love to see a new cellar door to really make the entrance draft free and get electricity to the chandelier. Maybe update the volunteer bedrooms/area. And ultimately, the servants’ quarters/attics. I’m so excited to see this week’s vlogs!

Anonymous

Love to see extra vlogs. Looking forward to it

Anonymous

Love the new face for St Cecelia, angelic. So glad all the Patreon money can go directly to the Chateau restoration and the team we love who are maintaining the gardens and restoring the rooms etc. The peacock chics are older now, are you able to determine what sex each are? Really looking forward to seeing the courtyard ☺️💕

Anonymous

Wow you have week's worth of videos edited already? You are way to good and sincere at your job. Well done!

will Selmar be living in his camper through winter or will he have a room inside the Chateau

What are your Christmas plans? Will you be doing advent /vlogmas this year as well?

That accounting news is wonderful, so pleased for you and the chateau family.

Anonymous

So many good ideas. I think the order for restoration should be warm, safe, critical repairs in that order. I just want to hug you, seeing how happy you are at the good suggestions from the accountant! Lots of love to you all.

Anonymous

Wonderful news! This update has gotten me very excited for the next six months. I’m thrilled that you are utilizing donations more effectively. A suggestion: This might be big thing to repair as I really have no idea the cost. But if you can have the lake back much sooner than predicted, maybe you should prioritize the boat landing for repair sooner than later. It would have a bigger impact than the amphitheater. Or, if you can leverage both, then by all means. :) Also, YES, extra footage is always great to see. One day... I hope to visit and enjoy the chateau.

Anonymous

Wonderful news about the non-profit ! Imagine all of the renovation projects that could be completed with that extra money ! I really thought Davey was so interesting to listen to..I'd love to see the extra footage. So many great things coming your way ! You deserve all of it :)

BHV in Paris has really splendid door hardware. I bought some lovely 18th century style lever handles there last time I was in France. And as for the chimney, it probably needs repointing, not necessarily a liner. It hasn't had a liner in 200 years. Why does it suddenly need one? This is the classic response from chimney companies, who always say "liner" because it is an expensive fix. Repointing the masonry is all that is needed. And check the flashing around the chimney stack on the roof, if it is leaking water at all. Fires in chimneys start because the opening is too narrow, causing a creosote build up. Chimney fires are creosote fires. If you put a liner in, it narrows the chimney opening, thereby CAUSING a worse buildup of creosote. It's really antithetical to safety to do so. I've done a lot of research on chimneys, their function and structure. Don't fall for the liner scam. Just make sure that the mortar in the masonry is sound, and you'll have a safe chimney. And I'm so delighted about the foundation. Good move! And I agree with the idea stated above about the terrace. With a lot of rain in the coming months, it makes sense to shore it up now so it won't be weakened by more moisture. Good work, Stephanie! Things are going swimmingly!

Anonymous

That's a kind idea, Nancy. One nice way people can be supportive of Dan and his family is to become a patrons of his vlog Escape To Rural France.

Anonymous

Hi Steph! Bill and I have just moved to Victoria B.C. from Calgary Alberta now that he has completed is solo circumnavigation of the world. We are busy with planning our patio/private garden and. will be hiring a landscaper to assist with the plan. This brought a thought to my mind about Lalande. For your Q&A segment my question is: Would it be possible to have a full landscape plan done for the entire estate, including the lake? Perhaps Davy could be hired to do that? If we have a full illustrated plan for the entire estate then it would be easy to break it up into smaller bits to work on. You may already have that in mind but I really think it would make it easier for the rest of us to visualize what we are working towards if we have a visual to guide us. That could be our gift for the next goal!! YAY!!

More footage of Davy and his ideas please 👍

id love to see the exta garden footage!

What are your thoughts on sponsored videos. Have companies approached you. Will you be doing any?

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie. What ever happened with the movie you were going to be in all those years ago? You mentioned it once when you were discussing how you started having volunteers. Also, wasn’t there supposed to be a video with the ‘cheese man’ a while back? I thought I heard that he was going to be coming to Lelande one night but maybe I misunderstood. Thanks and great news on the non profit!

Anonymous

Is there any news about Percy being able to come to France? Any hope of France lifting the ban of travel from South Africa? This is the single issue that is so concerning in a negative way in contrast to all the lovely news from La Lande. It is imperative that your Mum and Percy have all the loving, happy time together that they can.

Anonymous

Possible idea for a $22k target. Begin plans on an apartment for Scott Man!

Anonymous

This is so exciting!!! I hope you are able to do the non-profit because getting the lake back seems like it's something you really want and I think with all the joy you've brought us, you definitely deserve it! As I was watching this, it really is no wonder that people love your channel so much. Just sitting here listening to you talk felt like we were having an actual conversation and I found myself agreeing out loud several times! I'm not sure what I'd recommend for the next goal. As winter is approaching, maybe something to help keep y'all warm and toasty through the season!

Anonymous

Gerry’s appartement would be a nice $22k goal. Any updates on the satellite internet situation that Hanni is masterminding? And this patreon crowd will love any footage, why do you ask ;-)?

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie, Thank you for another amazing update! Now that the lake is most likely going to be back (and soon, finger’s crossed!), I feel quite certain that the next patreon target should go to the resurrection of the Boat House - in some way, shape, or form. Maybe Davy could (re)design it for you? I can only imagine just how incredible it would be to see some of his drawings and ideas for it and what a magical place it could be again! I swoon at the very thought of it. Much love from Ontario Canada, Breana xx

Anonymous

Really wonderful news about the possibility of a foundation for restoration! The combination of jasmine and roses in the courtyard will be fabulous! I live in Las Vegas and have a courtyard garden with jasmine and roses and both will absolutely tolerate the high summer heat, including the reflected heat from the gravel in the courtyard. It will be stunning! Some extra footage will be great.

Anonymous

More footage of Davy, Dan and Mummy surveying and planning the gardens would be great

Anonymous

It is a great idea to turn the Patreon account into a NFP Foundation - once you have set this up are there grants from the French Government you could apply for for special projects? Would love to see the extra footage from the garden discussions - looking forward to seeing the videos of spreading the gravel - these type of projects usually give instant uplift. Good luck for all the current works, looking forward to following along. Did you ever find new shutter latches for the windows?

Anonymous

What would you think about making a video for DVD to be sold to raise funds for your pool or whatever you want and need to raise funds for? It could be about the history of the chateau and all you have done to restore it, or a collection of your decorative video series, or maybe the series you and Michael plan to do put into a compiled video or....?

Anonymous

Great update, Thank you. Found myself nodding and saying yes as you went through. Love how you think things through and get the right people to help you. Company and foundation is a good structure to move forward with.

Anonymous

YES! Grace us with more footage! My Q&A question though not a chateau question is one I’ve been longing to know since the start, what makeup do you use because your skin is always so glowing! ❤️

Anonymous

One other thought...Everyone has had great ideas for the 22K goal, but I am thinking ahead to the point at which you WILL receive approval for the foundation. (Thinking positive!) That perhaps should be the point at which you go all out in your bedroom/office/dressing area renovation. Not just the structural changes you are planning, but also all the "pretties" which would make it special for you. You have worked so, so hard this year on the chateau, and to please your patrons with really wonderful content, and you are deserving of a magnificent private space. Please consider this!

Anonymous

This is all very exciting and the non-profit soundas a brilliant idea. I think the 22k should be spent on a room for Gerry so he has a place of his own. and maybe make a start on your boudoir? My question for the Q&A is this: Would you consider renovating one of the untouched rooms as a child's room? Maybe one of the attic rooms? I think you could design a magical child's room with all sorts of fantastic ideas.

Anonymous

Yes on more footage with Davy!

Janese Carstens

I think going back to the items that didn’t get chosen the first round is a wonderful idea!!

lottie

Hi Stephanie. What a good update with lots of promise. I’d like to know where in these plans you have put your apartment renovation? 🤔Might I suggest the 22 target be for some work you want or need done there. Part of my enjoyment is seeing you in your princess rooms and though they look lovely, you have spoken about plans to make changes. Your rooms are just as important as the rest of the chateau 🤗 🥰

Anonymous

Stephanie, great news on all the updates! I’d love to see any extra bits that don’t make it into the vlogs 😊😊

Janese Carstens

Thank you for the wonderful update. As an executive director of a nonprofit myself, I understand how important the updates are but also how much work goes into making sure all of the details are ready for the summary. Just wanted you to know it doesn’t go unnoticed and is so appreciated! For the $22k target, I went back and watched a couple of the patreon vlogs about the choices that weren’t chosen at that time and could be chosen now to be resubmitted as options. 1) The library update in the winter salon 2) The coving and shelf for the kitchen 3) Getting electricity to the chandelier Number one is my favorite because who doesn’t love a beautiful library in a French chateau (Beauty and the Beast anyone)!! As for more footage, I echo others that say “Of course! You never need to ask us!” Thank you for all of the effort and time you put into the videos that have created this amazing community. It truly is an amazing feat!

Anonymous

How’s the shutter dogs going? 😀

Anonymous

One idea for $22K target.... some more (padded) pews for the chapel? Seeing some people sit on the scattering of chairs for Mass was kind of sad. 2nd idea.... permanently hiring out all of your Chateau Unwrapped editing? Or anything that would help you with the videos. It sounds like you're working yourself to death and none of us wants that! :) Get some support so you don't burn out and can continue doing the things you LOVE <3 Again I'd like to suggest that whenever you put forward 3 project choices for us to choose from, that maybe you do all 3 but we just choose which one comes first (since they are all great ideas and need to be done). GREAT JOB with everything!!!

Anonymous

Such great news this week! I'm stoked for the videos of the courtyard. And an eternal yes to more behind the scenes/extra blog footage. I think a great target many have mentioned in the comments would be doing more work on your suite when the house empties this winter. Also you mentioned a wall going down?? but I don't remember where that is exactly--I'd love more info on that.

Anonymous

I'm looking forward to the vlogs. Seeing the new courtyard is so exciting :D I really hope you will think about adding external lights to the courtyard at some point. It would look magically in winter when dark is coming so early.

Anonymous

Also, I love all your videos and content, but I hope you are taking time for yourself as well!! and can find people to help with things that can be delegated!

Anonymous

What a wonderful update Stephanie, and so much good news. There have been many great suggestions already, but I’ll offer one more. The kitchen is the heart of the chateau. So any extra kitchen equipment, tools and such, that would support the ‘chef of the day’ and ease food preparation for both the B&B guests and all the current LaLanders, could be funds well spent. Any extra footage with Davy, or anything else you think might be of interest, you know we will all love it! Best wishes for a fantastic Month of October. 🍁🌾🍂

Anonymous

Hi. I love the idea for an amphitheatre. What a magical spot it would be for the musical workshops to practise and hold concerts. Maybe the next target could be painting the front gates or having a sign created for the front.

Anonymous

I am so pleased you May be able to avoid paying so much tax. I think the list would be bottomless and would depend on the other already planned options. I am probably behind everyone else as my busy involvement recently with our hospital trust has taken a lot of my time recently as you can imagine. I think maybe ( and this may already be on the agenda) would be an office for Nat and for you. In order to keep journeying forward one needs the ‘skeleton’ of an organisation to be strong. The kitchen projects would be next as this is the hub of the house. Looking at dedicating an area to your workshops and therefore leaving free the remainder of the house for BandB. A dedicated seating area in the garden. A trail through the wood/forest. Having watched Selmar’s vlog on his walk this would make a wonderful place for education and mindfulness. Not sure these help but I know you will have ideas and these will be excellent. 👍

Anonymous

This is such wonderful news. I think the next project should be an apartment / space for Gerry for when he comes to live at la lande

Anonymous

I’m so excited about the improvements to the courtyard, I came across photos of another chateau with pretty boxwood and rose beds along the base walls, it looked so pretty, I emailed the photos of the chateau to you, this makes me so excited you are doing that, it’s going to be a major game changer, it will add so much lushness of richness to the facade of the chateau. I received my postcard today also......

Anonymous

You should watch the film 'A Little Chaos' for some entertaining garden inspiration...well okay the gardens at Versailles may be a bit over the top, but the amphitheatre created was amazing, if only for a film set. And if nothing else you can immerse yourself in the fashion and appreciate the acting of Kate, Alan and Matthias...especially Matthias. Great news about the non-profit situation.

Anonymous

Thank you for the update. For the 22K goal, I always think you must make sure the warp is strong before attending to the weft. Warmth, safety, and preservation before cosmetic updates. You seem to have much repointing to do (the outside of the tower, the inside of the chimney, parts of the attic area are falling off), which seems an excellent investment/ goal. If it isn't restoration, let's please make a goal of reuniting Mummy and Percy. There has to be a way to safely do it, even if it costs lots. For the Q&A, A) Your life and finances have changed so much lately, have changed any part of your self care routine to help cope with the speed of the changes? B) If the foundation comes to be, will you set up ways for people to contribute to the non preservation aspects of the chateau and the business (GoFund me for the pool, an online store for beautiful products, etc.), as there are only so many ads we can watch? Finally, please keep in mind many people have fairly severe allergies to jasmin, so you may want to limit it to non-guest areas. ❤❤❤

Anonymous

Excellent news. Any extra footage always appreciated. Xxx

Anonymous

Hello Lovelies. Incredible news about the tax aspect. My feeling for everyone in life is to become more self sufficient and even commercially driven to sell produce from the gardens/animals. You could also create a sensory/meditation/healig area for those who want to visit the Chateau for recuperation. 😘😘

Anonymous

Hi Marci, I think Stephanie mentikned in one of the premiere chats this week, that the 'cheese man' is coming sometime in the next week or so

Anonymous

22k: -I agree that the previous voting options should be looked at again! -I also agree with the Chandelier idea. Q- Along with others on this thread, what do you generally do for Christmas?

Anonymous

Maybe an idea for the 22k target you could be to install a small pediment and pilasters around the exterior of the new entrance hall door. This way it will help make it clear which door is the main entrance. You could also add exterior lighting and planters.

Anonymous

Wonderful update, great news about the foundation idea. Yes pls to more Davey garden footage. I was wondering whether some restored pews with cushions for the chapel would be nice. I know the blue was Isabelle and Percy's wedding, but perhaps a more traditional look would be better for the chapel now. My question is when is the patrons party....😁😁? Serious question though is about star gazing (no really), do you have visitors who are interested in this and could you make a provision of some kind in a tower or the roof with a telescope as a selling point to guests?.... although I guess that's a b and b budget item rather than restoraton ? I bet it's perfect on a clear night, with no light pollution. Keep up the good work.... and please please find an alternative to sitting by yourself in the car in the dark to upload, we are all so grateful for the work you put into this but worried that it's too much to be doing by yourself with people bringing dinner out to you! Hopefully Hanni's satellite dish is the answer!

Anonymous

That’s fantastic!! What wonderful and exciting news. :)

Anonymous

Wonderful news about the non profit situation. That will speed things along for the renovations nicely. In regards to this $22k, maybe revisit the previous suggestions that we voted on or tidying up the terrace. Some beautiful pots of colour and new gravel would spruce things up. Or even putting that money towards the garden at the front of the chateaux wall. The options will be mind blowing😳 I’m also a great lover of Christmas so a perpetual Christmas tree planted somewhere prominent (near the chapel for instance) would be wonderful. A lasting legacy for generations to come. Q&A withPhilippe would be great. A bit of eye candy never goes to waste.

Anonymous

$22k- I’m so obsessed with the gardens at the chateau!! If I remember correctly, I think you may have said that a fountain for the walled garden was gifted by your father(?). If you’re already going to be doing pipe work and digging for the automatic sprinkler system this winter, would it be time to install that fountain in the middle of the box hedges in the walled garden?

Anonymous

Q & A ???- how are the sheep? What’s going on with Aloysius? What do you do to help the sheep, chickens, and peacock family have a warm and happy winter? What preparations do you have to take for the animals in winter in that part of France?

Anonymous

Monty Donn did an amazing 4 part series on Italian gardens. There one about gardens designed to entertain, delight, and surprise. It’s on Netflix. I think it’s called Month Donn’s Italian Gardens. When you mentioned the thrill of discovering a hidden amphitheater it made me immediately think about his series. I hope it might provide some additional ideas and inspiration for your, already amazing and beautiful, endeavors.

Anonymous

$22k- With so much going on, and so quickly (yay!!) it is hard to keep track sometimes. What about, this winter when the workshops and B&B slows down, doing another grand tour of the chateau and grounds? It would be like a updated video time capsule capturing the chateau as it is now.

Anonymous

Warmth in winter seems to be such a priority for you all. You say that the central heating boiler is to be overhauled/up graded/fixed - does this include a comprehensive survey and upgrading of all your plumbing and radiators? I know that the luxury of hot or even warm radiators does not often stretch to the rooms that are furthest away from the boiler. Perhaps this is one reason that paying guests in winter are not so easily accommodated. But in terms of the fabric of the chateau alone, a working heating system has to be high up on your list I imagine. Perhaps another boiler and heating system as well?

Anonymous

Definitely more behind the scenes/extra footage and forward planning as you say for the funding for your business. I have always thought - how wonderful if you could market your father's artwork as applied art. I have a friend in Capri who has made a very successful business from his grandmother's artwork - do please take a look - although you may already know it if you know Capri.

Hello Stephanie. For your Q&A. Would setting up a non profit foundation to restore La Lande still give you full freedom of choice with your projects and decorations, or would it mean you’d have to start getting approvals from government cultural or historic buildings departments for your future renovations?

Anonymous

What is happening with the box hedging that goes down to the lake area, maybe some kind of arch all the way down, to grow climbers, ie, roses, wisteria, laburnam, clematis, just a suggestion, not all together, but would make a lovely walk down to the lake. Also the old boat haouse, i love to see it, but i feel its a little sad and forgotten, i know there is no lake, at the moment but maybe it could be given some tlc.

Emma Young

I think in France if you have real fires you need a certificate from your sweep every year or in invalidates your insurance

Anonymous

I would love to see extra footage, especially of the planning of the garden. Would be great to listen to Davey and Dan bouncing ideas off each other. On a side note, I really hope your mum and Percy are ok? It must be so hard for them and sending them both a virtual hug 💜

Anonymous

Pleased to hear that you've been able to get ahead on the vlogs. Also how nice that Steve could leave his mark at Lalande with the St. Cecilia window.

Anonymous

I love the updates. They make me so excited! Thank you. In terms of questions for the Q&A, I was wondering when mummy will be able to see Percy? Also is there an update on the panelling for the grand salon?

Anonymous

I was asking him about this when I was there and we reckoned his camper is warmer than the chateau!

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie- could you also let us know what “Mary Poppins” thought of her umbrella. Thank you. Have a good week 🕊♥️

Anonymous

Yes! I also thought about the area above the range in the kitchen! It can be all nice and pretty for when Christmas rolls around :)

Anonymous

What about an online gift shop with postcards, and a coffee table book of your fathers art, etc to also fund things that the foundation could not? Something that could be drop shipped so that you don't have to mail all of it out yourself would be nice. It could also have a boutique of things like 100 stars and things you guys like and use at the chateau. I think multiple streams of revenue would be fantastic.

Anonymous

This is all such good news! I think a lot of us worry about you all in the winter as we have seen how cold it can get. My impression is that even when it is fixed it will still not give you a comfortable warmth throughout the chateau (If that is even reasonably practical of course). so my suggestion for the target would be to ask the people fixing it about upgrades / improvements.

Anonymous

Great for us but extra footage isnt less work for Stephanie, its more editing which takes a lot of time.

Anonymous

Is it possible to re-route the stream around the lake, thus keeping them separate but making sure that the lake is the original size? Just a thought.........

Anonymous

We saw in a vlog that there are pews which Ian the Builder sourced. They are on Selmars list to be renovated and installed

Anonymous

Wonderful news Stephanie. Very exciting for you and everyone at Lalande and I am delighted if you can pay less tax - I was shocked to hear that tax in France for gift money is 50%.

Anonymous

Fantastic update as usual!!! Thank you so much for the effort you put into all of this. It is highly appreciated. So excited for all the possibilities that lie ahead! I think everything will work out as it's supposed to. And for things that cannot be covered by the non-profit (such as the pool, for example), I think a GoFundMe would be a great solution. For the next goal, I would say sprucing up the area above the range cooker in the kitchen but maybe that will be done in conjunction with the fridge fittings? Otherwise something to do with the entrance area outside to make it stand out more. For the Q&A: I know this completely frivolous but any thoughts on metal detecting in the near future? Take care Stephanie <3

Anonymous

Excellent news! So happy to hear of the possible foundation and all progress being made 😍. As to the 22000 suggestion I really wish that it would be plans for Gerrys apartment. Surely he deserves a permanent spot. I also would love to see any additional videos that don’t fit in the original vlogs. You are an amazing force and it’s always a treat to follow things going on in LaLande. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Anonymous

Q: Did you see the video of naughty Diesel 🤣🐕

Anonymous

Next target amphitheatre! And yes to extra footage ❤️😘

Anonymous

Is there scope to turn le petit salon into a bar? This could be used for your BnB guests (and the rest of you) in the evenings for aperitifs etc. The cocktail cabinet could then go to your movie room. Presume Nati's office could be relocated.

Ramon

Wow, great news, so happy for Lalande. For Q@A: what are the plans for the boathouse, Gerrys apartment, future travels, the lost tower? And as for ideas for future vlogs:more interviews, another updated tour de château, drone shots please! For new projects:I really wish you find time to invest in a collection of artbook/postcards of your father art. Also the same of the château itself. I am sure if you make a shoutout a lot of talented and creative volunteers will be willing to come and to assist you! Unfortunate not me😊This could be such a great possibility to earn more money for Lalande with a one-time effort! All the best!

Anonymous

extra footage!!!!! lots of love!

Anonymous

Thanks for a great video! Good news re the foundation! 🤞🏻For the 22k target, may I suggest a complete sets of plans for the landscaping around the chateau? It could include the lake (once the size has been agreed), boat house, patio, pool, courtyard, gates, pergola, amphitheater etc. Would be lovely to see how to will all fit together and would help with budgeting and planning. Extra footage would be lovely as a one off, thank you. Shouldn’t be a regular occurrence as you need to rest more!!! Cx

Anonymous

Wow lots of good news ! Gives me energy to get going on my own huge house. I will have builders in redoing the second floor and the electricien redoing most of the electrics so the mess is daunting but in the end there will be Farrow & Ball and fabric and trim and a big log fire ! God bless xxx

Anonymous

Q&A-will you have time to go on holidays in January and February next year and where do you want to go?

Anonymous

Thanks for the very informative update and Yes! to the extra footage.

Anonymous

Excellent news on the tax. Would love to see extra footage. If you have to put a chimney liner in anyway, have you thought about installing a log burner? Great heat from them, very cosy...and free wood.. ❤️💐

Anonymous

Thanks Stephanie great to hear the news. We call that grey bits of stone slig in Ireland. I love all the little extra video's for the patrons. For the Q&A would you ever have an historical banquet/reenactment event at the chateau? We do medieval reenactment and we went to the battle of Agincourt a few years ago, I'd love to travel to France again. I make historical clothing and I have started a hood for you. I sew whilst watching YouTube so you are my inspiration.

Anonymous

So delighted you are finally getting help To finish the lake and all the rest of the restorations good luck with it all

Anonymous

Stephanie you always think things through incredibly well & your vision for the Lalande is amazing. It’s wonderful that you may have an extra ‘pot’ of money if you can be exempt from paying tax - fingers crossed. Definitely think you should spend money on the chimney & getting the heating right for winter. Do you know when Mummy & Percy can get back together as they’ve been apart for far too long & it’s worrying meYou work very hard could you get someone to permanently edit ‘Cadeaux ar the Chateau’? It seems with all the work going ahead now you will get even busier. Thank you so much for sharing everything with us in such a lovely way. Xx

Such good news!

Anonymous

Great news about the possible Foundation. Looking forward to seeing the results of the work on the front of the chateau. ♥️

Anonymous

One offs like the pool etc can be funded by a Go Fund Me for specific projects which are not covered by the foundation.

Anonymous

Yes, fire safety/protection survey...what a brilliant idea! It’s always on my mind when I watch the videos.

Anonymous

Wow Stephanie, such fab news. 1) Yes please to more footage of the garden/grounds landscaping discussions. 2) For the 22k target could you put up a partition wall in the laundry room to finish it off. Q&A 1) is the heating system still economical (seem to have had some issues lately and you did say it can be complicated to fix if you are not there) or does it need to be replaced with a more updated method. 2) Will the B&B and workshops secure Natti's role, or could her role be extended during the winter to include some chateau restoration work so her wages could be paid from the NFP foundation. 3) Would Hanni and Cat be okay with being interviewed. 4) Could you do a curtain making vlog. Absolutely loving everything you are doing. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Anonymous

What a marvellous video! All fabulous news...so much to look forward too! Thank you for sharing. I have a million questions for the Q&A, but one in particular has been niggling away at me for ages (historical architecture geek here). What are the internal dimensions of the entrance hall and winter salon? Wall to wall, floor to ceiling, that kind of thing. I know it’s an odd request, apologies, but I’d be very much obliged to you. Many thanks.

Anonymous

I'm so excited about the non profit side. I was so happy to see your last video. There was so much getting done around the chateau. I agree about the paneling. I'm excited to see the new courtyard!

Anonymous

I very much would like the next target to go towards the kitchen. I feel that would benefit the volunteers and they are supporting the chateau with their time and hard work as much as we’re benefiting the chateau financially. I am very interested in knowing further plans for the chateau. Day dreaming plans - for five years or ten years down the line. The abandoned rooms in The attic, the historic attic areas, the cellar, the orchards and grounds beyond the walls. Maybe it would be a good video idea on the main YouTube channel to explore and daydreams beyond the $30,000 target of the paneling in the grand salon and the lake, something that did feel so unattainable once, what would be next? Such as: Refitting the floral studio/painting studio into a proper workshop space for multi media arts, creating a landscaping or agricultural residency for sabbaticals to assist Dan in planning and works, taking over bee productions and formalizing the orchards, creating a independent study it fellowship for costume designers to live and create at la Lande, setting up a writers retreat for the winter months when the BnB is slow it closed, working on a book proposal for a beautiful coffee table book of la Lande to showcase the talented interior design, landscaping and artists (floral, paint, graphics and food based) that have found their way to the chateau and left their mark.

Anonymous

My suggestion is insulation for the attic and walls around the area (or rooms) where it is open (for protection of the chateau). A door could be put in the wall to lead to that area. Insulation will make the chateau so much warmer.

Anonymous

22K bookcases for the w2inter

Anonymous

I apologize in advance if I have remembered things incorrectly, but I think I remember you said that Nic and Marie were funding the renovation of their living space. I am unfamiliar with French law but would, under the rules of the foundation, you be able to cover that renovation with the Patron money and then they can use the funds that they had set aside to fund Nati’s salary at least for a bit. This way it would be less “out of pocket” initially and more of a temporary restructuring.

Anonymous

I love the idea of a maze with something magical and surprising in the middle.

Anonymous

This may well not be that glamorous a suggestion, 😆 but I’m concerned about fire risks in the attic! On one of your vlog I saw how Isabelle had stored unwanted furniture in the attic to create a barrier to stop children going through to parts where the floor is unstable. So perhaps it would be a good idea to clear out and clean up the attics - a group task force job I should think - then use some of the wood that’s ready stacked in Selma s shed to repair the floors up there, so the attic could then be used in a more organised way to store Lalande’s stuff. With fire extinguishers on hand.

Anonymous

Glad to hear everything is going wonderfully. The 22k limit suggestions are insulation for the Chateau or maybe a sprinkler system for your grass areas and drip systems in the garden beds. That would make it easier for your mum. Thirdly spend it on the kitchen. 😊

Anonymous

Great vidio Stephanie sounds like u have plenty to keep you going at the moment. The Lake and the Swimming pool will be a great advantage to guests. I am a small Patron and I am delighted with the company u are setting up so all the funds will go to the Chateau. Stay Safe All.

Anonymous

Hello Joseph. If I understood correctly from Stephanie’s previous info on this the tax level is not because the Patreon money is gifted funds per se, but because when/if the funds had to be considered as part of Stephanie’s personal income the total amount of her YouTube earnings and patron monies would place her into France’s highest income tax bracket.

Anonymous

For a daydreaming project. After the lake is done perhaps the renovation of the old mill?

Anonymous

Hello to all at La Lande! As for a suggestion on a goal: is there any way to spruce up the Chapel entrance? I'm thinking just maybe some carved stone benches and small planters on each side of the doorway. When looking out the Chateau windows you can see the magnificent Chapel and the entrance way into it just needs a little TLC and how lovely and complete it would look! Oh Stephanie you set yourself up with asking if we would want more vlogs because everyone will want MORE! So a suggestion to make things less of a job/video/editing what about adding also something like just a NOTIFICATION PAGE, where only you could just type some things and post? Us paetron's will still get our weekly video but mayhap any other "EXTRA BITS" of info can just be put into print which would be quicker and effective. Love to all!

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie! Thank you for this wonderfully exciting update. The charitable Foundation sounds like a really sensible way of making the best use of Patreon money. It is so heart warming to hear about projects being worked on and completed... new ideas being formulated. In particular I am excited about box hedging and topiary in the courtyard (well done Davy) Box resonates so well with old buildings and seems to add to their charm. The out door amphitheater sounds like a great plan, particularly in conjunction with the music workshops frequently held at Lalande. Can’t wait to see work start on the lake.... though I think it’s unreasonable of the water authorities to ask you to reduce the size (10 metres from the stream is too much) Personally I think it should be returned to all of its original glory. My suggestion for the 22/ 23K target is to properly sort out the water supply pipe to the garden so Selmar can install the irrigation system in plenty of time before the start of next spring. Keep up the amazing work. X

Anonymous

Lindsey, good question! Actually I’d support the possibility of the foundation (if it happens) covering the renovations to the Guardian’s Cottage from the possible lump sum, without conditions. It is part of the main building, and Stephanie has mentioned before that as a part owner Nic has contributed significantly financially to the maintenance of the Chateau over the years, so to me it seems more than fair that, if possible, some of the Patreon money be used to renovate and improve the part of the Chateau which he will be using when staying there.

Anonymous

Since Marie is getting the new frig, how about the new counter & sink for washing up?

Anonymous

Great news on NFP foundation. When you draft your Mission Statement consider the distinction between "restoration" and perhaps what you have been doing that may be more like"rescue" or "revitalization" or "rejuvenation ". Your Board of Directors can obviously be helpful here. I'll bet there are some very knowledge people close at hand to help you craft the Statement such that you are not unduly tied to strict historic renovation.

Anonymous

Really looking forward to seeing the powder room wallpaper up as it looks gorgeous and to seeing all the other renovations 🙂 You are doing a fantastic job in all aspects of Chateau life and you know best how to put to good use the monies collected. I think the next small project from the last vote should go forward as was Nattys request. All the very best for the coming month and looking forward to seeing out it all pans out 😃

Anonymous

Wonderful news all around! I think a Chateau Lalande foundation is an excellent way to keep moving forward with the restoration. I had an idea. Would it be possible to add on a solarium like structure off the back side of the kitchen with a nice wood stove for the kitchen table and cozy chairs to take in the afternoon sun Then where the table is now add an island for food prep which would be at the proper working height? Just an idea. I love watching all the vlogs. They are a good way for me to unwind after working 12-13 hours as a birthing nurse near Boston. Thank you for all your wonderful videos.

Wonderful update Stephanie! A lot of exciting plans and actual work happening at Lalande! ! I also would like to see some work done to beautify the chapel entrance.

Anonymous

Stephanie I am so very excited for you. You’ve certainly have changed not only the visual aspects to Lalande but the history of it. So long Lalande was was tucked away sleeping. Through your hard work and determination, you have awoken Lalande from its sleep and shared it with the world. You have become it’s beating heart , it’s life force and the perfect chatelaine to take on it’s journey. I am so very proud of you 😊

Thank you for the wonderful update its so exciting watching things to come together for you all. I love watching the vlogs after working all day its so relaxing. Looking forward to seeing the powder room.

How exciting! I can't wait to see the progress around La Lande! I would love to see extra footage about possible sites for improving the landscape. Adding interesting areas like an amphitheater by the lake will make La Lande more beautiful, interesting - and profitable. Congrats!!

Anonymous

Yes, a stainless steel sink and surface is the best material to replace the water-damaged wood countertop that has rotted.

Anonymous

Seeing the extra footage would be fantastic! The foundation idea for the chateau is such a good plan. Thank you so much for all of the hard work you put into all of this!

Anonymous

Wonderful update - thank you! Questions for you: 1) Are the shutter dogs still being sourced? 2) Can you do a video on how you clean the chateau? (Maybe with Mary Poppins?) 3) To get more space, can you move the fridge to where the sink is near the stove, then move the sink to where the fridge is (if you still need a sink in there)?

What an exciting update Stephanie! So much going on at the Chateau at the moment. I’m so proud to be a Patron and know that you will spend the Patron money in the best possible way. You looked very cosy there in your bedroom with the fire burning in the fireplace. Here’s to a cosy warm winter in the Chateau once the heating is fixed! Thanks again for your wonderful informative updates, I’m always sad when your vlogs come to an end! Im really looking forward to a future blog of you all raking tons of gravel in various states of dress/undress. I can imagine that was great fun. Keep up the great work. Love everything Chateau Lalande! X

Can you give a shout out to my father, Clifford, and tell him it's ok to collect blue and white porcelain, and that we can always find room, but could never have enough plates! Also, can you please please please explain your shelving system in the kitchen holding your plates? I would love to recreate! Also my father would like to know how you feel about men on motorcycles? He is goofy, lol, but starting to accept my ideas to transform my townhouse into a fake chateau! He also agreed to build me some shelves! Much love! Steph 😁

Anonymous

Love these updates too.....couple of things I have been wondering.... When you said about quotes for the panelling isn't that something Selmar would be fantastic at? And also......I am fascinated with how videoing people and editing is changing your perception of the world, relationships and those around you.......because often you see so much, nuances etc more than when you are not filming - do you feel it has changed your outlook in anyway?

Great news on all of the current projects. As for upcoming project ideas, I feel that the internet problem really has to be seriously addressed. Love 💕 to all. Keep on dancing!!!

I am pretty sure if you look at the last video? Hannity got Satelite internet- they were getting someone else to install.

Do you feel overwhelmed with all your success and might because of it a full time vlogger? I mean all the notoriety and gifts maybe fabulous..Originally you just wanted to be a Chateaulaine...but i guess its a write off in order to have your lovely Chateau you needed us to fulfill your dream...is this what you actually want..it seems your days are filled to capacity ...you dont have time to anwser your messages personally..although mummy is filling in nicely..and all that you Originally set out to do some 15 odd years ago..if i am overstepping PLEASE accept my deepest apologies 🙏 😔

So much good news and information on the Chateaux Stephanie. So, so pleased to be a Patreon and can i put forward some ideas. The gravel will look fantastic and as you say, one job leads to another. Its great news about the lake, as you know everything in France takes a lot longer, but keep on pushing with the river police and hopefully progress will be made soon. You should have had a gravel party especially with the music going on as well. I cannot wait to see it on the next vlog. Love to all at Lalande, love from the Dordogne xxx

Thank you for the comprehensive review of the projects underway and planned for the Chateau. I look forward to see them come to life!

Stephanie, I look forward to each and every vlog you post! Your hope and enthusiasm are contagious and so inspiring! To be a part of it all is truly an honor!

As a Marquis of Lalande, I really appreciated the very informative and thorough update. I love the idea of a non-profit foundation so you can separate the revenue streams in a way that optimizes your focus on restoring the chateau. I am pursuing a line of inquiry for you regarding hardware for the new doors. Several years ago, I purchased hand-cast bronze hardware for a reproduction late 19th century door for my home. The maker was an artisan in San Francisco operating as Cirecast [https://artisticlicense.org/morenstein/]. The artisan used antique hardware and the lost wax technique to recast new pieces in authentic patterns. Google business states that the firm is permanently closed, but there are appearances on several websites of their products, so it is not clear if they are still in operation or not. I'll let you know if I learn anything of value for your project.

Anonymous

Love the fire. Wish I had one 😊

Anonymous

Great update Stephanie, thank you. Good idea on setting up the non-profit - it definitely is non-profit work!! I wonder if the patrons would be able take it as a deduction (here in the USA), if so, it might mean they can increase their contributions. I think for future projects you need to include the wine/liquor storage/tasting room, and fixing up the area near the bread oven. I saw someone commented on tidying up the outside of the chapel and I agree with that, and also agree with the person who talked about oriental carpets. How about outdoor lighting to make the chateau glow at night. I think you need a Lalande coat of arms that can be put on flags on top of the chateau. So much fun dreaming of ideas. Love to you all.

Anonymous

Hello magical People from Lalande 🥰 i have some questions. 1. Will Selmar and Disel be staying In the camper for the winter? 2. What is your favorite room ? 3. How is Percy doing? 4. Can we get a update on Scotschman? 5.Will all the Ian’s be staying at Lalande?

Anonymous

What an exciting update! Things are definitely flourishing at Lalande! For the $22,000 mark what about paneling for the Winter Salon? ETA my question for your next Q&A- 1) Have you considered pitching a TV show to any of the European TV networks? Your presenting skills are very impressive. You have a lovely disposition, an infectious energy when talking about the things you love, and I think you'd be very popular. I could totally see a series based on visiting historic hotels and exploring the interiors as well as an surrounding landmarks.

Anonymous

Hi Stefanie, thanks for sharing and keeping us informed. I loved the brilliant job Steve did with the face for the church stained glass. Congratulations Steve !!! The idea of making an non-profit seems to me perfect. Since the purpose of this patronage is the rehabilitation and preservation of the chateux, it never made sense to me, personally, "sponsor" the construction of a swimming pool, precisely because it is not part of the history of the place. However, as a patron, I never spoke because I trust in your ability to discern what is really important to Lalande. I don't want to be intrusive at all, but I feel that the main porpose that made all the people that are contributing here to help you making your dreams ( which end up being ours too) came true, has been lost a little. Perhaps is for feeling that you are overwhelmed. However i look forward to see all the ideas come to life! I am proud to be a part of this wonderful comunity. Q&A suggestion, news about the panel for the Gran Salon. Love to you all at Lalande!!!💛

Anonymous

Yes to extra footage! Yes to all the footage you have! At this point I feel like I would watch even unedited vlogs in full length 😅 Q: Saw someone else asked but I'll repeat because I also want to know: - Is there a shutter dog update? - Can you (or someone else, whoever does it) show the proces of cleaning the Chateau?

Anonymous

What a great meeting with the accountant! I do have 2 questions: "IF" you make LaLande into a Foundation can you make absolutely certain that you have the control you need now and in the furture? I assume there would be a Board for the Foundation and you already have the people you need who are in harmony with the entire project. Question 2 is: do we need to set aside money every month (year?) for Foundation upkeep? I am assuming there will be fees etc plus and attorney to keep you/us on the straight and narrow. Did you get any idea of what the 'ongoing Foundation' costs would be?

Anonymous

It’s so exciting to hear about all the changes happening and still to come! Can’t wait to see. And yes, we would love to see any and all extra footage- it doesn’t have to be well-edited. I love the idea of creating a non-profit foundation for the chateau. I’m imagining how much more can happen quickly if that comes to be.

Anonymous

Extra footage would be so great! Oh my gosh I’d love to hear what he said about landscaping ideas. And I think sprucing up the paths through the forests might be a good project for the 22000 mark. Also Lee Kempter has some very good points and questions. And do you allow guests to participate in the Easter festivities?

Anonymous

Great news! I would suggest you take a small percentage each month from the donations to fund a long term savings/sinking fund to keep the chateau in good repair/maintenance. Other than that , I think you, Nick and Michael were able to buy and do so much work in 13 years... I have to believe that I trust your judgement on all things to restoring and maintaining the estate. Build that amphitheater, I will get on the list to come stay and enjoy performances in it!

Anonymous

A little question for the next Q & A : Stephanie, do you have a signature fragrance? Merci beaucoup, kate in Kentucky 😘😘

Anonymous

Always love seeing additional footage! Would an idea for the $22K target be completing some of the old proposals that lost in voting (the designs for the balcony, electric chandelier, etc)? For the Q&A, what are some of the books you’ve read this year that you’ve loved? You’ve mentioned a few in the vlog and I’ve purchased a few, all great recommendations!

Denise Behrends

Enjoyed you conversing with us beside the first fire of the cold season lit in the bedroom fireplace. The cozy warmth and soothing sounds of the romantic firelight is an ideal winter chateau indulgence. QUESTION: With proper chimney repairs, will all of the fireplaces throughout the chateau have the capability to have fires lit, including the fireplaces of the Bed and Breakfast rooms? I am looking forward to all the interior décor and renovation projects over the winter! Projects that involve the architecture and design of the chateau are always my favorite. I’m intrigued to see your expertise with the sumptuous Fortuny fabric as you renovate and decorate your dream-come-true private suite of rooms, fit for a princess. Will the winter projects include the library paneling in the Winter Salon and the plaster coving / tile work above the stove in the kitchen? Any and all video footage—interior and exterior—is always appreciated! Would still love to see a video of Mary Poppins cleaning routines throughout the chateau.

Anonymous

Great news. I'm assuming a future GoFundMe campaign could also be wrapped into the tax arrangements? Additional footage always welcome. Good news on the heating. Have you checked those gas bottles recently?

Denise Behrends

TARGET GOAL IDEA / Thoughts on Mediterranean Plantings in Courtyard: You mentioned the desire for Mediterranean plantings in the courtyard and next to the chateau walls. The exotic luxury and fragrance of potted citrus trees, such as lemons, clementines, tangerines, and mandarin oranges come to mind. Something to consider in your courtyard planning, if not for this month’s Patreon target, then for when the time is appropriate. Grand plaster or terra cotta urns for the citrus trees would add classic architectural interest in the courtyard, complement the fountain and the stone walls of the chateau, and would delineate the entry doors. Imagine the overflowing bowls of citrus in the kitchen for cooking too!

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie, thank you so much for the comprehensive update - you have so many projects ongoing (the lake in particular is so exciting) are the shutter-dogs still on your list ?. I hope you have pencilled in some holiday/rest time for yourself over the winter. Best wishes from Dublin Suzanne

Jasmine for all year round scent is not just beautiful but enchanting - summer and winter variants I have in my garden.

I was so glad to hear the news of the lake and the foundation. What was the reasoning behind separating the stream and the lake as my understanding is that it was not that way before. Just curious as I can see advantages to it being kept as it was bit of course I am not an expert at all.

Anonymous

I'd be interested how you plan your shopping for your guests and volunteers - menus etc etc.. So pleased things are slowly coming together. Have you more curtains to make? How often do you replace the linen and towels. Brilliant news re the money and putting it all back in the Chateau.xx

Anonymous

Such good news everywhere! Love it.

Hello! I have been following your vlogs for some time and have been dying to make a suggestion!Regarding the problems watering the garden and the future plants along the facade. Has a grey/gray water system ever been mentioned or discussed? I have searched the comments as much as sanity allows and have yet to find anything and since they have laid the gravel, it would be a good time to consider it before planting. So excited to continue following the restoration journey!

Anonymous

Please walk carefully on changing the tax status of the chateau. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The French Department of Revenue is giving up a lot of revenue for you to do this. There has to be a downside to it. Why hasn’t everyone who purchases a chateau done this? Maybe they have thought/been approached with the same scheme to lessen their taxes. Ask around. Something smells about this. Sounds like some type of tax shelter. How do you retain ownership? Is there limits on who can contribute? Who makes the decisions as to the property? Does the fair market value of your rent, Nic’s rent, Michael’s rent , become taxable to them directly? There is a quid pro quo going on the needs to be considered if the chateau is to be a separate entity. Seek further advice!!! Can you tell my husband the accountant read and responded to this? Please protect this venture.

Lots of lovely succulents to add ! Low maintenance and green all year round

Continue to replace the doors. So they are all air tight and gives a unified look. Also put up a nice balcony for Isabell. Nck and Marie's apartment really needs decorated badly!

like the idea of more footage re ideas for the gardens - i think those of us interested in more will enjoy watching whatever you put up - and those who arnt just wont watch it!! - i particularly enjoy the more spontaneous background moments that you sometimes share with us when you dont have time to do longer updates ( which i really really appreciate too of course) but i am not sure you realise how much many of us love to catch those times that dont make it to the vlogs- my only complaint is i am starting to realise anything Lalande is a bit addictive - thank you it is delicious/harms no one/joyous addiction :) )

Anonymous

Questions: What is Percy and Isabell's last name? Does anyone know when they will be together again? Does Percy have children? If you can answer, please do. We just would like to know them better.

Wonderful news about the new foundation, and about all the ongoing plans. I am very excited about the lake, and I would love to see the boathouse restored as a future project. I also wonder if you have considered re-wilding part of the land to encourage even more biodiversity, so that not only will you attract some amazing species, but Lalande will also be helping to restore the planet. This would fit so well with the restitution of the lake, and cost very little to do. I think this would be something that Selmar would love to research and undertake.

Anonymous

Question for Stephanie and Mummy: How do you handle confrontations? How do you tell someone "No, you cannot do that" or "No, the job you did is not acceptable." How do you give negative feedback? How do you keep an unpleasant exchange of words from bothering you for days? Thank you.

Anonymous

So many wonderful updates Stephanie this is so fantastic 😊 I am not sure if all new shutters have already been in the works but I would love to see the big project perhaps be that or new windows if the chateau needs them.

Anonymous

A question I have is if Scotman is morning to the chateau any time soon after his treatments are all finished?

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie, thanks for the updates. So happy to see so much progress at the chateau. As for suggestions for the target, well I'm afraid I've got my practical head on this evening. How about starting to get the windows replaced with double/triple glazing. Getting the chateau better insulated now that the heating system is being repaired. Or how about rainwater harvesting? This link my give you some ideas for watering the garden. https://www.rainwaterharvesting.co.uk Look forward to seeing what you want us to vote for!

Oh, how wonderful! I feel so good to know that my little contribution is helping to make the chateau a beautiful place. Lavender would be wonderful around the park and courtyard and of course jasmine. When I lived in Southern California we had jasmine growing as a ground cover along the walkways and in the evenings the scent was heavenly. So happy and have my fingers crossed and touch wood that all your plans progress in a timely well ordered manner! Keep up the good work. I appreciate your dedication and hard work! Stephanie, you are a magnet for so helping many creative people to excel! Success well deserved!~k

So much good news! I hope it all works out. I can't wait for the next video.

So happy to hear all the progress that's being made....congratulations, Stephanie

For the Q & A: What happened with the 100 pigeon prints. I'd love seeing where they found their home. :)

One more question...:) Is there a date set for the satellite wifi system? I'm hoping it will make your life much easier.

Oh I would love to see more of the discussion for the future gardens. It's so exciting to hear so much is happening now. I can't wait to see the china pantry I hope it is going ahead soon. The tax news is fantastic too!

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie! This has to be the best update ever. Totally worth the wait. How exciting for you and your family that setting up a foundation for Lalande would allow you to put all the money from patreon to use for the restoration work. Such amazing news!! So, my question for the Q & A: Were there more turrets at Lalande, besides the 3 that are there now, before the terrible fire? Is it even remotely possible to incorporate additional turrets to the structure to mirror the placement of the existing ones to create/restore symmetry to the chateau's arcitecture, especially now that you might have access to all the funds for the restoration work? For the next target: More windows and doors to keep you all snuggly warm this winter while you're busy with the winter projects you already have in the works. And one last comment regarding planting around the chateau's exterior, I know it will be beautiful whatever you decide to do, but I really wish you would consider planting your flowers and box hedges in planter boxes instead of directly in the ground. The planter boxes could be relocated to other parts of the property once you are ready to properly address the exterior walls, and the things you put in them will survive no matter what. Wooden ones could be painted blue to match the shutters and doors. The boxes could possibly be moved to flank the pathway leading from the terrace stairway to the lake. There are tons of plans to make your own on the web, and this is something Selmar could do, not that he isn't busy enough already. Anyway, Congrats on all the wonderful news. Lots of love to you and everyone at Lalande. <3

Possible question for you and my fellow patrons!!! our Sundays at the chateau this week has been delayed and for understandable reasons. As patrons we get some wonderful extra vlogs and I have at times thought that maybe some of them should be shared on YouTube at a later date? Could they not be uploaded, but then placed as private until on the occasions there’s a hick up or delay and then Stephanie can publish the oldest one? We have a nice back catalogue, so they would be 6+ months old and a caption could be placed at the beginning when uploaded, stating it’s a Patreon vlog being shown in place of the normal ones, due to technical reasons! No one is then disappointed and the benefits of being a Patreon are shown... Good idea???

Anonymous

Do you have any of your YouTube video's on private? I've gone back and watched old vlogs, and for some reason i feel like some are missing!

Anonymous

Great news about the non profit!

Anonymous

I don’t think something stinks about it and I’m sure the accountant explained the possible ramifications to them individually. The foundation is basically a charitable set-up often used in hospitals and national monuments and go under the name of “ friends of ..................” which then raise funds to buy things and used solely for non profit purposes, that is why a separate company is also being set up for the b&b and YouTube side of things.

Anonymous

What a great update. You all have done so much work! Amazing. I seems like there is so many exciting things happening for the future.

Anonymous

Wonderful update. Thanks Stephanie. For potential future goals / projects, how about an area of the Chateau dedicated to its history (mini museum)? Also, sitting benches for the gardens/forest, including some picnic benches spotted throughout? Thrilled about the idea of the amphitheatre, too. I'm also eager for you to give some thought to a book and other items designed by you, notecards, prints, etc that we could purchase. . I put in a previous comment the idea of a little gift shop at the Chateau filled with your favourite things and your own branded items. Once the next ETTCDIY airs, I'd love to see completely new tours of your home as so much has changed over the last year!

Anonymous

What a great idea about a solarium. I have always thought they needed and island there in the kitchen. It would make Marie’s and the other people who cook job so much easier!! They could also put a dining table in the sun room for the La Landers!

Anonymous

So many projects in progress at the chateau! I’m really happy for you. My questions is: will you be able to make the videos about other chateaus with Michael Petherick this year? When are you uploading the ones the Ollie?

Anonymous

Wonderful to hear the updates! Exciting to hear about the two businesses and about the lake restoration progress. Any extra footage would be super fun to see! And my suggestion for future projects when the money is available is the kitchen wash area worktop. Thank you for sharing all the amazing details!

Anonymous

So many amazing projects on the go! I can't wait to see all the results of your, and your team's hard work. Those dahlias have done incredibly well (considering they spent a month or so in your London flat!) It would be lovely if you could post some photos of your beautiful blooms, perhaps? As you are looking at both garden structure & water pipes currently you might make installing your Daddy's fountain your $22,000 target peut-etre? Creating a dreamy garden room? My question is how is darling Scotman? I miss him muchly! Love your channel and everything you're doing xx

Anonymous

Finally gave this a thorough "watch" , hearing some of the plans helped me to understand a bit more about the plans and process of renovating the chateau. I have to admit I was originally disappointed that that the kitchen didn't get it's new fridge. I am an avid cook and only feeding a family of three here , we grow almost everything we eat and there's no processed food but I could not do it without my big fridge. I could not imagine having that small fridge and having to do cooking for as many as your cooks do. I am heartened that future plans include a remodel and some accommodation for some new dishwashers and a larger fridge. Food is such an essential part of what you all share together , I'm sure it will add much joy to everyone's life.

Anonymous

Dear Stephanie, please get some professional advice on this as I am no expert and am just thinking cautiously. With regard to planting around the walls of the Chateau. Those new plants will require regular watering. Won’t the regular watering affect the foundation in the long run?

Anonymous

Hello, Stephanie! I am so excited about all of the projects going on. I love the idea of sharing the extra video footage. I often think if there is a way to revisit some of the losing ideas for chateau projects like kitchen facade, chandelier, balcony walkway. My Q&A is 1. What happened to the goat cheese guy? 2. What happened to the shutter dogs and doing a history of shutter dogs video? And finally, 3. If you had a carte blanche budget, how would you decorate your fantasy bedroom? I hope you pick my questions I have been trying for over a year for a response. No worries, if you don't I understand that there are a lot of us Lalanders. :)

Anonymous

This is the news we have been waiting for. It's so good that Lalande will receive more of the funding. She's going to be magnificent.

Anonymous

Great News! My ideas for $22K target include: 1. Neatening up the front of the Chapel. 2. Marble mantle for Grand Salon. 3. Chimney service wherever it is needed. Questions for Q & A video. 1. Can you tell us about your land and what it’s used for? 60 acres is a lot. How much is forest? How much is lake? Are there fields? Does it generate any income? Do you ever see it being used for events? 2. Any thought given to how being a NFP might change access to the chateau? Does it have to be available to the public or does ownership have to transfer to the NFP? We are all charitably contributing to its upkeep and restoration, but at the end of the day it is privately owned and is a business. I guess it’s the same as aristocratic families making estates open to the public? Tours, gift shop, events? Will being a NFP create a need for an openness aspect? 3. Have you thought about engaging a local historian or archaeologist to start documenting the history of chateau? 4. Do you have any desire to perform music as part of events you may hold in future? I think an amphitheater on the grounds could provide for many wonderful events. Would you want to take part? Thank you for being open to questions! I think it’s part of what makes your channels so fun! Cheers!

I’m so excited and looking forward to seeing the court yard. It will be wonderful I’m sure and will make such a difference when driving up to the chateau. You are working so hard but love that you are all living your dreams. Thanks you Stephanie and your wonderful friends, family and volunteers

What happened with either plaster or wood being created over the cooking area in the kitchen? I would love to see that completed. Really think it would add so much character to the kitchen & make it seem completed.

Anonymous

If you are fitting airtight doors, you must make sure there is adequate ventilation by other means. All the moisture generated by people breathing and by cooking and bathing etc must get outside before it gets a chance to condense on a cold surface. Also, open fires need oxygen to burn efficiently and safely.

Anonymous

As with any garden, when first established it will need watering , but will need very little water if anyone the roots are at home. It’s really only vegetable gardens and annuals that need to be watered and that’s because they have just the one season to grow in, A lite feed from time to time will be neeeded, but that doesn’t have to be a liquid one!

Some of the very earliest videos (in portrait format) do appear to be out of sequence. You might try Stephanie’s ‘view in order’ playlist, or I just selected those very early ones manually by episode numbers until I got through them and onto the later landscape format ones.

Thank you for all the updates, Stephanie! Very exciting times! I think if you continue to keep your original “heart’s desire“ as your focus, then all should be well. I do agree with those who suggest checking into the details of a foundation/board/maintenance fees etc. I so enjoy seeing the beautification, Restoration and “daily life“ at Lalande. I drew in my breath when I saw Steve’s artistic interpretation of Saint Cecilia… Absolutely beautiful! My two questions are: do you allow guests to visit and participate in your Easter festivities and who is in charge of meal planning? I only ask because I dream of one day coming and assisting in the kitchen and gardens. This video was very inspiring! Thank you for all that you do and glad that you were able to prepare some vlogs ahead… Hope you get to truly enjoy all that is happening. Blessings to you all!

Wishing you and all at the chateau the very best. 🦚

Wow so many things happening, so much to take in. Please reconsider putting plants in near the walls, as you will have trouble with roots because the roots will find there way under the foundations into the building causing problems much later on. Not only that but they will cause damp around the base. As you know I live in an old house/cottage and I have the same problems because the previous occupants plants shrubs, trees etc and they have caused massive damage, which we are still sorting after 15 years of being here. My walls are just as think as yours and it would be a nightmare for you in years to come. Please reconsider! Keep going, take care of yourselves, keep warm and its lovely to continue watching the journey of the restorations, the chateau and of course your personal journey. Lots of love x

Fantastic achievement Stephanie. You should be so proud of yourself to have come so far xx

Christine. Just thought I'd jump in on the NFP or Non-Profit Organization. I'm sure France has some similarities to what happens here in the US. In the US a Non-profit can be set up as part of a Restoration and Environmental Project for much older buildings, monuments, historic lands, etc. The government encourages owners of these properties to restore, refurbish and reestablish the lands and property to their original state, or as close as possible. The property never becomes publicly owned. That's not the purpose of the Non-profit. What it allows is any funds the Non-profit receives as donations or contributions are not taxed as general income to the property and can only be used towards the Restoration. Hence, as Stephanie stated, she has to set up a second corporation that is the taxable income of the property. So any income received from the B&B and most likely YouTube revenue is taxed as it always has been. Any money used towards additions or adjustments that are not considered Restoration by the French Government can not be from the non-taxable Non-profit. I think it's easy to get confused. But I think you're thinking of properties owned by a Trust, like Beatrix Potter's house and land, that are open to the public in a museum type facility and receive donations for maintenance. I hope that helps answer your question and maybe help clarify that for Stephanie's benefit. Michael

Congratulations , Stephanie! So much wonderful news and so many sensible suggestions! So much hard work of you and your team to gather all documentation to be able to convince the bureaucrats and get approvals! Cheers to that 🥂 I read the very important and sensible advise on plantings near the castle foundations. However with Davy’s expert advice he will have a solution. Belgium , like France, has many castles. And I am so happy for Dan and Annalisa that he can continue working throughout winter giving this lovely young family the means to continue their renovation dream. Above all I just swooned for you to be able to finally turn your castle into your fairytale Sleeping Beauty Castle. It’s walls covered In climbing roses and jasmine. Crowning your, Mummy Isabelle’s and your late father’s decades of perseverance and hard work leading up to all this. You both deserve all this and much more! I hope that Percy will be able to return soon so you can all share this happiness.

Question for Q&A. The un touched rooms that smell of bat. Have you considered what you will do with the space. You have mentioned in the past that you like to idea of leaving them because it’s little like stepping back in time but I can imagine that back in time the space would have been used by staff. Could you start to use some of the the funds to move the bats out and re do the rooms in the style of the past staff living space. More room for volunteers? Congrats on the potential change and the windfall of funds. Xoxoxoxo

Gracias Stephanie por la información. Hay muchos planes para La Lande y espero, uno a uno, se vayan cumpliendo. Saludos

Yes! Gardens are lovely when they have a sense of mystery!

Theresa Romero

Stephanie, that is such wonderful news! I am so glad you learned that you can set up a nonprofit for the chateau restoration, that will allow the Patreon funds to be fully used for this purpose, without high taxation! Bravo! Well done!

Theresa Romero

This was the most thrilling vlog! So many wonderful things! Everything you said fills me with joy! The drawing of St. Cecelia’s face is perfect! Thank you for being you, and thank you to all your friends and family, who each are so special. The group there now is absolutely wonderful. Bless you all! ❤️

Would love to see Dave's ideas on plans for the chateau garden. I would also love love love to see a wonderful big white gazebo at the end of the long walk looking out over what will be the lake. It will mean you wont have to rebuild the one down on the lake and will look great from the road and great from the chateau. Loving the ideas for the companies, any way in which you can spend as much of the money on renovations rather than tax has got to be a great thing. Onwards and upwards Steph.....the stones are rolling.

Another wonderful vlog💕.

Has Stephanie just dropped $5k overnight?

Anonymous

Totally lost with Patreon!!! Michaels has changed to $ Dan’s has also changed to $ Stephanies is a mix of $&£

Anonymous

I wondered what had happened to the totals as it change before my eyes. I even added up the number of patrons in each tier to check it hadn’t dropped dramatically

Jane Nunn

Thankyou Stephanie. I wondered if you were ahead of your vlogs.. I know others are always a week or more ahead on the main area. Thats renovations though isn't?? hahaha one part is lovely and THEN you look around other things stand out like the preverbal.. Love to Isabelle, Percy, Scotman and all

Jane Nunn

I have jasmine and love it! especially when a little warm and the scent released.. lovely plus the colour and very hardy

I would love to see extra footage here you can’t fit in to your regular vlogs! :)

Very exciting updates! Looking forward to hopefully seeing all the great changes in person as a guest in 2022. Best!

Anna Ibarra

Agree more garden footage.

Just love to hear so much working happening in the chateau. Just so exciting. You do so well in keeping track and in the jobs that need tending to. 👌🏼. Well done Stephanie. Waiting to see how the shutter will come to look. I cannot wait to see how the courtyard is transformed. Something I long to see done, especially as you drive up. So exciting. When will the back terrace be able to be looked into for repairs? All good things are happening and cannot wait. Thanks Stephanie

Anonymous

A question I have Stephanie is: What has been your favorite video you have done? I think we all have favorites for various reasons, but I am curious as to whether you have a favorite and which one it might be. :-) It is really exciting to see things getting done now after the draught of summer.

Anonymous

22K idea - splashback for the kitchen behind the cookers? That is so exciting that you may be able to use the full amount of Patreon money for chateau needs.

1.) Projects: Did you need to circle back to projects not selected previously? The balconettes or external passage? The terrace wall repair. The grotto under the terrace. Chandelier.

Anonymous

2.) How is Isabell doing and what are her plans for seeing Percy? If it's not too personal. What effect does Brexit have on your residency in the EU? I try to watch all of the vlogs but perhaps you have answered these. I appreciate your willingness to share your lives with us and it does feel strange to ask questions since you don't know me...yet. Ha!

Anonymous

3.) Yes by all means, any background video on the exterior planning is interesting to me. Thank you Stephanie. Maybe I'll be able to visit C.deL. 2021 and 2022 just seems like a long time away!

Stephanie one thing I would LOVE to see, is just a walkthrough of the entire chateau from start to finish. I know we have the floor plans but sometimes it's so hard to get my head around where in the chateau each thing is. For example I have no idea where the downstairs loo is haha. I know we've seen your other tours but this would really piece things together!

Anonymous

How to you keep track of each project that's going on? Do you have a spreadsheet? You have so many ideas going at once, how do you remember the details of all of them and manage the costs?

Anonymous

Question for this week's Q&A and proposal for project: Stephanie, have you got a fire suppression system in the chateau? I believe I have seen smoke detectors, but not heat-activated sprinkler heads in the attic and each room to douse a fire. Where I live in California they are required in homes. I am concerned because Notre Dame de Paris would have survived if a fire suppression system had been installed, not to mention the fact that LaLande has already been destroyed by fire in the past. I would be willing to contribute to a special fund.

Anonymous

That's an awesome suggestion. Ryan's uncle almost had a tragedy a few years back because he didn't take care of the chimneys and had a fire that started to spread out to a beam.

Anonymous

The EU has said no to American travelers right now, unless they were somewhere else and have done the two week quarantine. I.e., we can fly to the UK, do a two week quarantine and then travel to France, I believe. You would have to check with French authorities first.

Anonymous

Hi Stephanie it would be lovely to have an interview with Michael Potts in future. Is the Chateau Heritage listed? Do they have something like National Trust in France? Maybe the boat shed could be restored or some kind of a boardwalk on the Lake created? So exited to see the down stairs loo, love the wallpaper you chose! xx

Anonymous

Question. I was hoping could you give an update on the terrace wall and the shutterdogs please?

Anonymous

And we would be happy to see raw footage, it does not need to be edited. 😁😁😁😁

I would like to know more about Hanni and Kat? I think Kat is a volunteer but Hanni seems to be renting an apartment?

Anonymous

How about a go fund me account for the pool? I’d be happy to donate separately for it 💜

In regards to the amfitheater, remember to consider the view from the lake, and from that angle in general. Because I think, that like the old artwork of the chateau, that angle from the lake will be so beautiful. So I think it is important if you put something there, that it does not look out of place.

Anonymous

$22,000!!!! hooray!! 🎉🎉🎉

Anonymous

My page still says it’s dropped to $16,995 and the target is set at £23,000 Totally confusing

Anonymous

For the Q&;A...Do you know the sex of the peachicks and are you going to keep all of them. Did you get the henhouses built and the hens and roosters moved to their new homes.Did you get any more hens?

Anonymous

Hanni is a Patron and friend that lives partly in France anyway. So during the current climate she is renting the tack room apartment and working from Lalande.

Anonymous

Nicks apartment is being renovated now. They only moved into it over lockdown so the work is being done now while they are not staying there

butmaybeyes

For the Q&A: I know the chapel is technically catholic, but would you consider running other services inside? My father was a Free Methodist pastor who would guest-preach anywhere that requested a specific sermon of his, so I think about the opportunity you could have in inviting a wide range of faith persons to the chapel. It would be fun and eclectic, like the type of people the chateau draws in. (I’m a Jewish-atheist so I don’t have a horse in the race but i think it would be cool.)

Stephanie I want to share something with you that I think you will absolutely enjoy regarding the history of porcelain. It is a lecture from the Frick Museum on YouTube. "Meredith Martin and Porcelain Rooms from Amalia von Solms to Arlene Schechet". Gorgeous pictures, excellent scholarship and a well composed lecture. I think you will love it. Grab a glass of wine and cuddle down and enjoy. You have hooked me in porcelain that is for certain.

Anonymous

well I am off to enjoy! that's for sure😊thank you!🥂

Anonymous

I think catholic is catholic is catholic. .. I grew up a strict catholic (Convent of the Sacred Heart, the French Nuns) but that's all I really remember.... it was quite cut and dry🙄🤔🤓 but who knows now a days😊

Anonymous

Mattie cant be employed with the funds from Patreon when the foundation is created because she runs the b&b - which is a FOR profit company - where as the Foundation will be preserving an important bit of French history in perpetuity- or at least las long as the uplifting spirit of Stephanie (and the ghost) live on!😊🥂 From what I understand Stephanie was saying was that it would be retroactive and that then everything for the goals would carry on at a quicker pace. Each project is very pricey and from my understanding- work in France can take quite a bit of time - however the work is BEAUTIFULLY done. I hope the restorer for the chapel gets there soon!

QUESTIONS: 1.How did the quote for the terrace supports come in? Did it include the (breathtaking) quote for the terrace itself? 2. Did you notice the three giant cracks in the wall/roofline just above the "defenses"? 3. When you discussed the removal of the rendering from the exterior - did the architect there agree that if you were no longer having water issues in the rooms you have repaired - that it wouldnt be an issue? I dont mean to rain on your parade and I certainly didnt specialize in this when working in architecture- and it COULD be different here in the states... but typically that's not how it works. The concrete render doesnt allow the building to "breathe" - hence the build up of water vapor - not necessarily water intrusion (although it can include that) Michael's awesome contractor Dad could tell you in a jiffy. ADORE that man. Now I just need him to move to California and live next door🤔🤔🤔 of course great contractors are more rare than Gold so it would take him 2 seconds before he was the contractor to the STARS and then I couldnt afford him🤔 But I might be able to squeeze in a few months before the Hills of Beverly kidnapped him😉🤣🤣🤣🤣 I digress... but that's it!😊😊😊😊

YES!! WHERE IS THE GOAT CHEESE MAN!! he was very handsome and VERY SMITTEN with our Ms. Jarvis❤❤😜🤓

Laura from Garden Answer has some really good garden design inspiration. At around the 10:35 mark of this video link would be good inspiration for your courtyard planting. https://youtu.be/znGzmeGVQ7U?t=636

Georgette Jones

I posted a comment and suggested some ideas and it is not here....maybe I sis it wring❓

Very confused about what is going on. You said you are very far behind with the Cadeaux at the Chateau yet it was abruptly removed from Monday with no explanation. Someone said it would now be shown on Wednesdays but that did not happen either.

Anonymous

Hello Linda, I suspect (but don’t know for sure) that the Cadeaux video may have been held back on Monday because the Souleiado fabrics video was shown on the main channel on Monday, instead of Sunday. That said I was anticipating seeing the Patreon video here yesterday, and that hasn’t appeared either. I’m sure we would have heard if there was a serious issue.

Anonymous

Stephanie said she had audio problems with Cadeaux at the chateau so was unable to post it

Anonymous

Stephanie will sort it and post it as soon as she can.

Have you thought about opening an online shop to sell merchandise such as tea towels or shirts with Lalande on it? That would be one way of generating extra income.

Anonymous

Oh I know she has! She even bought a postcard rack one day, thinking that it might come in handy should she ever open a shop at Lalande. And of course it would make sense to do an online shop as well, or even first!

Anonymous

Please oh please tell Nattie a huge THANK YOU for asking about the broken heating.... and then for making all of the furnace fixes 'happen'. I absolutely would not have been able to bear watching Mummy (and you) be frozen and wrapped in blankets again. Sending her huge hugs and much love.

for plants i recommend bougainvillea. think greece....

I so love these vlogs. It has been a source of much pleasure over the last months. I hope this isn't perceived as too petty but I look in my mailbox every day for my LaLande patron welcome card. I have been contributing since April and am wondering if anyone else is also waiting? I do appreciate how labour intensive it is and Stephanie has mentioned it in previous blogs but alas I still look every day! Perhaps it got lost?

Anonymous

Stephanie.....I don't give gifts but LOVE when I get to see you use some of the gifts you are given, i.e. pink glass. Great idea about your not for profit company. 100% proceeds will be best spend on the Chadeau a oppose to taxes and fees.....

Anonymous

PS........Never seems to amaze me how you find the right guest to make your Vlogs funny, fresh and entertaining. I guess in hindsight it's good to have Mummy and Dan play the 'straight" cast of characters. lolol

Saba Atabaki

Why did you make the second channel for charity? The revenue would helped a lot.

Saba Atabaki

Have you ever thought about installing solar panels or creating a solar farm? It will help with heating the house and in hot summer months you might even be able to sell some of the electricity for extra money... I can't wait ti volunteer there and discuss all these ideas with you! ❤️

Anonymous

I wondered if you might create a not-for-profit to keep more of that donated money. Smart move and terrific news!

Anonymous

They felt strongly that they shouldn’t make money from presents. So I understand that after much thought and discussion “Chateaux Unwrapped” was born. Enabling them to “spread the love” to other causes close to their hearts.

Anonymous

solar panels is a good idea I think. your internet is a must I think. perhaps you can install a series of devices that leads from the the wifi spot and transmits the singal by cable, or maybe a private optic fibre line.

Anonymous

This might be a great plant for along the Chateau walls of the courtyard. They climb and they smell beautiful, be the proper zone, AND they would be beautiful color-wise with the gravel! Lonicera etrusca is a species of honeysuckle known by the common name Etruscan honeysuckle.

Anonymous

That was fascinating ! I've only just become a patron & look forward to more of these "planning" videos. En fait, for the garden, what about a jardin de simples ? It could look really pretty & in summer would be a wonderfully odorous with the fragrances of both medicinal & aromatic herbs.

I do see if your are planning to paint the kitchen any o
