It honestly seems like it was a defensive acquisition, whether it was to prevent Amazon/Tencent or someone else from buying them. The price is really high, even if Bungie’s next IP is a hit. A big upside is if the Bungie team can help other Sony teams perfect FPS controls.

I don't feel like this is ever in the same universe as the other purchases, Big company or not they don't have alot of franchises or Irons in the fire. Talent comes and goes IPs stay.

Destiny makes a lot of money every year, Bungie has 8 years of making live service games and the technology maturity that goes with that. This purchase isn't driven by IP, it's driven by infrastructure.
