Love this episode, but Ben, we need to talk. I hear you. I get where you're coming from with Final Fantasy 14. I think the only game I've been emotionally invested in was Final Fantasy 8 (I'm 38 now but that was back when I was about 18-19 yrs old). How long have you been putting off catching up on it? I almost want to call your bluff but knowing there's no way I can do that now, I can only ask really? I suppose I can speculate a little and go back as far as 2017. You mean to tell me you'd shoot, Breath of the Wild, Persona 5, Divinity 2, God of War, Last of Us 2, Resident Evil 7 and 8, Final Fantasy 7 Remake for this game? So let me ask this and take it a step further then. Considering how long you've been putting Final Fantasy 14 off, and considering how long you (and the other allies) have been waiting, could you put it off over Elden Ring? (Just pretend I have some devil horns pointing out of my head with a smug grin lol) Stay blessed

Pokemon had to pump the breaks on their constant releases due to backlash, so they experimented with releasing paid DLC instead of releasing a new $60 game with minor changes now, which seemed to go over pretty well. They're also in a weird spot right now in regards to how they handle Remakes, outsourcing the new one to a not well proven studio, which I'm currently expecting to soon blow up in their faces, but Sword and Shield weren't great and sold through a ton regardless so who knows? Although admittedly that's different, because that was a new generation with tons of new Pokemon, which alone is a sell for many, myself included. That's all to say I do wonder if Pokemon technically already has the CoD status of selling despite the games being middling quality, because I'd personally argue the mainline games quality has been slipping since after XY but still selling Pokemon numbers in spite of that. It is just hard to calculate how much of that perceived quality drop is actually just the developers following the trends of what kinds of experiences appeal to the new younger audiences coming into the mix with the franchise. Are the new games truly bad or are they simply successfully appealing to a different demographic by trimming down content, reducing challenge, and such? Well, at the very least, I think people can objectively agree together that they've become bad on a technical level, but that alone doesn't seem to matter enough to make a dent in the sales.

Imagine if Playground Games made The Crew. As much as I’ve tried to get into it, I can’t get past the handling model and loot aspects after playing all 5 Forza Horizon games.

Loved the conversation about 'getting lost' as it's also one of my favorite topics regarding video games (or perhaps life in general even?). My favorite games usually have some form of getting lost in the world incorporated in their design. It's probably why I love metroidvanias, Zelda-types and Soulslikes so much and why Outer Wilds is one of my favorite games. I just love the process of slowly piecing together a mental map of the world. Regarding this topic, I definitely recommend to give the latest video from GTMK about Metroid Dread a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pop-cc9kmY&t=9s&ab_channel=GameMaker%27sToolkit

Hearing Ben gush about 5.3 has been at the top of my list for EZA lately, totally paid off. Binging FFXIV over the past 6 months has been one of the best gaming experiences of my life and has shot XIV up to the top of my FF list. Would absolutely LOVE an Endwalker Spoiler Mode with Damiani, Brad, and Ben someday, no matter how long it takes.

I started FFXIV this summer & finished 5.55 this week just in time for Endwalker, and I absolutely loved hearing Ben's response to catching up. Shadowbringers captured me with its characters and story so much harder than I expected it to, and listening to Ben talk through having the same reaction to it was delightful. can't wait to experience Endwalker & hear the Allies' reaction to it as well!
