My weekly update delves a bit into the past since some of you revealed you're not entirely familiar with my previous works. So I give some background info on the previous series I worked on and how this new show is the spiritual successor. Hopefully my talks about the style and the philosophy behind the show and its concept are a bit more clear now, but just in case it's still not -- the D-Files is about taking a deep dive into the world of video game myths, mysteries, and urban legends. It will allow for me to cover a wider array of topics than just strictly adhering to trying to prove if a video game myth is fact or fiction, too. Enjoy the update, and share your feedback and questions in the comments below. In fact, in the next update, I'll answer some of the direct questions from Patrons posted here in a sort of mailbag section at the end of the update. Feel free to ask about the D-Files or any of my previous shows. And as always, thanks for your continuing support.

D-Files Update #2

Damiani gives some backstory into his previous series, possibility of revisiting already covered mysteries, how the show can be about more than just myths, and other insights into the new show's philosophy. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to all the good good.

Robert I.

The cats are back! ... I mean, thank you for even giving us these updates. Truthfully you can let the end product speak for itself, but being upfront about making them is seriously appreciated.

First, thanks for the update, really looking forward to the show. I'm not sure if its even any of our business, but it strikes me that you keep mentioning that D-Files is "your" show. So its funded through EZA but youre keeping the rights? Not sure how much it even matters but are you part of EZA or is it more of a guest show sort of thing?

Anonymous

Lovely cats! This is just my opinion... Why don't you give yourself more time to do your main thing here. Like 3 months, and meanwhile do some easier stuff like talking about some good osbscure retro games , publishers and creators that you like. I say this because I think retro gaming is extremely important for the understanding of gaming as a whole, and it's disturbingly absent on most media.

Have you thought of covering more about the real life of the videogames? what I mean by that is the studios behind it, the myths/gossips behind the devs, publishers and the struggle about the people behind it. Unseen64 covers the unseen aspect of cancelled games and unreleased stuff, but it would be very interesting to hear stories related to how the staff itself behaves, not necessarily attached to a game. A (may be not so) farfetched example: a episode covering all those nasty rumors and gossips of the Konami corporate treating their staff very badly.

Forgive me if this has been previously discussed, but are there any plans to use some of the Patreon funds to fly you out to California occasionally to hang with the rest of the Allies? That would be a "Chewie, we're home." moment for me for sure.

Oh come on, it's his show. Just as Huber has his show and Ben has his show. It's pretty simple.

Anonymous

Dude, I'm all for it... I'll tell you what I'm blathering about... I've got information man! New shit has come to light!

Anonymous

Damiani what time frame are you looking to do after the first episode? Weekly, fortnightly or monthly? Also are you keen to appear on the podcasts?

Anonymous

Sounds good, got me super curious about the possible partnership! :)

Anonymous

the audio quality is horrible can´t watch it :(

Anonymous

The audio quality will be different for the actual show. But I agree, audio needs to be fixed for his personal update videos. Hopefully they can use some of the Patron money to buy him a better mic. Even a small Yeti mic would go a long way. I'm sure they are working on it.

Hey man, you are awesome. It is your attention to detail and dedication to thorough research that made Pop Fiction such an enjoyable show in the first place. Take your time, you will continue to get my contribution every month. I don't want my money to go into rushing as much content as possible, so don't feel like I'm an investor who needs a return as quickly as possible. I just wanna support a couple of cool guys who got down on their luck and help them get back on their feet so they can continue to spread good vibes throughout the gaming community.

re-upload and re-edit/title all episodes and call them pop faction...you're welcome lol just sayin, go forward with everything but could get away with "re"-uploading the old show with that in mind...take out all mentions or like, bleep them. side note: if you get on DidYouKnowGaming...you rock lol and i agree it'll definitely bring some extra exposure to the allies <3 good thinking excited for the new show either way...definitely digging the whole detective aspect and you could easily get away with just chopping stuff up and leaving cliff hangers, 'specially if it makes for more content lol just a thought...much love

should state for the record i dont know that it's dykg but i mean, given the nature of your stuff, it's just a good bet lol

You have control, Damiani! For all time! Seize your destiny! All sounds good. Also @15:28 you said do do. Ha, ha...

Anonymous

16:29 the cat starts dancing in the background.

Anonymous

Oh noes. If Damiani turns into tabloid gossip I want my money back!!!

Anonymous

Bring back the VG Fact Checkerz!

Anonymous

The Chilliad mountain mystery from GTA5 is definitely something I'd like to see looked into (again?)

Anonymous

Enjoyed all of your series. I can't wait for more. Good luck sir!

Anonymous

Really excited to see your new work. Great to see weekly Damiani

Speaking of hearing of the James McCloud thing as a kid, when I was a kid someone told me (& I have no f-ing clue where they got this from) that Captain Falcon was a cousin or something of Samus. I'm sure thats prob 100% false, but if there were any spec of that being remotely true I'd like to see that tackled. Perhaps you can just briefly comment on that on the next update.

Anonymous

So cool to see Damiani back!

Anonymous

This video series is right up my alley! I can't wait! :)

Anonymous

Anything you come up with is good enough Damiani, you where my number one reason why i backed this.

Anonymous

I didn't know Pop Fiction so I didn't know what D-Files was going to be about...I just watched an episode of Pop Fiction and now I'm really excited!! So looking forward to this new series!!

Anonymous

Damiani, you need to get one of those mics that the other guys use for the podcasts and streams. Just disable your headphone mic in the windows settings and select that other mic. This is way too crackly. That said I'm looking forward to more of your streams and your new show!

Anonymous

These are great updates, really love having Damiani back :D Have a great week and look forward to the next update and the first episode :)

Anonymous

Here's to hoping the partnership is with siftd. Gotta get the whole band back together!

Anonymous

Great video man! I loved Pop Fiction - the depth of detail you went to always kept me hooked from start to finished - I love the whole investigative thing, hearing about all the crazy shit that happens in the process of game-making. I can't wait to hear more & for the first D-Files episode! Also potential partnership stuff sounds awesome - I'm sure nearly all the Patrons will feel the same - if it helps the show & helps the allies build and grow then it's a good idea

Anonymous

Reusing the material from pop fiction is totally cool with me. Seeing it in a new format with some different/new perspectives/insights is good enough for me!

Anonymous

Well, You did mention that there would be a character right? I think cold cases and unsolved mysteries could be a great way to flesh him out. How does he respond to defeat? How does he feel when he gets a new lead on something that went cold? You could also make suspenseful breaks between episodes. Sounds like you could have fun with breaking up some episodes.

Anonymous

Regarding revisiting previous game myths: Pop Fiction was your baby, and it's clear you feel very strongly about wanting them back in some sort. I'm a VERY long-time GT fan, and having seen every Pop Fiction episode I can honestly say GO FOR IT! Don't worry about the whole 'crowd funding' sort of thing with Patreon - this is all yours.

Anonymous

I miss Pop Fiction. Can't wait for the new show.

Anonymous

Wanna see Pop Fiction again!

Anonymous

Loved pop fiction and can't wait for the new show. I'm excited for anything you do because of the quality you maintain so don't feel rushed and take your time :) and the cats totally stole the show at the end of this update xD

Anonymous

I'm so on board with episodes having multiple parts. Pop Fiction was the first original content (aside from reviews) that I watched on GT.

Anonymous

One of the best shows on GT, I'm down for anything similar. Multi part episodes are welcome too.

Anonymous

Looking forward to this show, I'm fine if it ends up revisiting old stuff - it's a fresh new start, I say go for it as long as you find it interesting still. I don't necessarily remember every pop facts episode so having a refresher on some could be cool, also if it isn't done the exact same way I don't think people will get too worked up or anything.

Anonymous

My guess is screw attack. They're based in Texas as well and stuttering Craig was saying on the dude soup podcast a while back that he was trying to hire Damiani at one point. I think that'd be great they got their start at GT gotta return the favor!!!

Anonymous

How's the studio going to help you if you live in Tejas?

Anonymous

This and no man sky is what I have been more hyped this year.

Anonymous

I can totally get behind the idea of having all of the "video game investigations" in one place. I'm sure everyone wants new content of course, but I like the idea of revisiting the old stuff from pop fiction. Also, I really like the idea of cold cases. It would be cool to learn more as it comes out. Maybe you could do a cold case episode a couple times a year where you cover several cases that went cold. I'm definitely liking the ideas you shared. I'm excited to see that you are a part of the Easy Allies. Your attention to detail really showed in the quality of your previous work. I look forward to seeing more!
