Judgment didn't get in :(

Dennis M.

Ugh, I haven't played any of these.

Anonymous

All of these games are fantastic, makes it that much harder to choose.

Anonymous

Yeah, a little bummed about that, but I know it's a very niche game, I'm just happy that it turned out as good as did, and it managed to please the fans of the studio.

Anonymous

(Brandon) Jonesing for that Disco Elysium PS4 port.

Danni-H4

Well if The Outer Worlds didn't make the cut, the Devil May Cry 5 gets my vote.

Anonymous

1. RE2

Anonymous

2. DMC5

Anonymous

Even tho I loved my time with DMC5, out of those, I think RE2 will be my pick. Hopefully next year we'll manage to get Yakuza: Like a Dragon in there.

Anonymous

3. Sekiro

Anonymous

No Baba Is You :(

Anonymous

No Astral Chain feelsbadman

Anonymous

Arghhh tough choice many brilliant games but ultimately for me i went with three houses

Anonymous

Outer Worlds not being in top ten is a snub XD

Carson Ogen

If Outer Wilds doesn't win... That's okay I understand it's a less mainstream game. But you should play it.

Anonymous

It’s between RE2 and Sekiro. And as much as it pains me, because RE2 was amazing, Sekiro was simply sublime.

RedVIII

Apex should have been in the top 10 easily, just saying. My vote goes to jedi fallen order.

Anonymous

Control!

Anonymous

I wont be hurt if outer wilds does not win as long as FE 3 Houses does not win haha. For real though even if it does not win I feel lik everyone should play outer wilds as it totally blew me away with every moment I spent. Not an hour went by where I didnt think "Oh wow that's cool as heck"

Anonymous

I didn't play any of those. Borderlands 3 was better than Gears 5 so Borderlands 3.

Anonymous

I can always count on this community to make the right choice. Well done friends.

Anonymous

A Plague Tale: Innocence was amazing

Anonymous

Man, I'm bummed that The Outer Worlds didn't even get into the TOP 10, but hey, gotta respect the nominations.

VGJunky

Iceborne tbh But DMCV Sekiro RE2

Anonymous

Re2 lets gooooooo

Anonymous

get fire emblem to top 3 at least, everyone

Anonymous

You misspelled Outer Worlds. Simple mistake, it happens. I'll wait for the revised poll :)

Dale Cooper

I'm just glad it even made it into the top 10. That's saying something for such a small studio game to achieve that. I think it's also gonna be one of those games that you can go back and play in a decade and it would still blow you away.

Anonymous

RE2!!!

Anonymous

There's no need to vote Sekiro - that will be their GOTY.

Anonymous

Went with my heart, DMCV.

Anonymous

Kinda cool how split it is. Voted Sekiro myself, but lots of respectable choices.

Anonymous

Gris and A Plague Tale: Innocence snubbed! 😉

Anonymous

just realised (to my shame) that I've actually only played one game on this list! so I'm abstaining from this vote

Anonymous

So I played none of these, so I guess I'll just vote for the one I most want to play

Anonymous

Fire emblem is by far the game I got the most out of. Cant wait for the new dlc.

Anonymous

CONTROL

Gandheezy

I only played like three of these 😁

Anonymous

Tough choice! Sekiro gets my vote but there are no losers here.

Anonymous

Take Control of/in your life

Anonymous

While it's the latest one I played, Outer Wilds totally blew me away in both storytelling and game design

Anonymous

Sekirooo

Anonymous

Fire Emblem easily! Such an amazing experience. Disco Elysium would be my #2 pick.

Anonymous

Wattam.

CJCW

C'mon Disco!

Anonymous

DMC5 getting slaughtered :(

Anonymous

Days Gone! But #2 RE2

Anonymous

Death Stranding GOTY / GOTD

Esprit de Corps: It's an honour to be nominated Conceptualization: Is not an award show an artform in and of itself? Electrochemistry (failure): o Dolores Dei, nobody loves me Half Light: I Am The Law, you assholes, vote for Disco Elysium or I'll smash you

Anonymous

No shadowbringers?

Anonymous

Poor DMC5. Shouldn't be last. #1 for me.

Anonymous

Huh. I didn't play any of these...

Anonymous

Outer Wilds is the best game on this list but not enough people played it :C

Anonymous

Fire Emblem lesgo BABYYYY

Anonymous

It really should be Outer Wilds. Indie Games are pushing the medium.

Anonymous

1. Mario Maker 2 2. Sekiro

Anonymous

Bloodstained anyone?

Anonymous

Ahhhhh Re2 on top and DS actually doing pretty well. Things are right in the world

Anonymous

I feel like I'm the wrong person to ask, I only just got around to playing Fallout 4 and Black Flag last year 😄

Anonymous

For me it was dragon quest 11, but maybe that came out the year before I have no idea lol

Anonymous

Outer Wilds is soooo good. Honestly one of the games I’ve ever played.

Anonymous

There is no FFXIV : SBr.. you failed me allies :^)

Anonymous

I thought for sure I would be saying Fire Emblem or Sekiro, but I've been playing Disco Elysium this week and it's unlike any game I've ever played. It's truly special

Anonymous

Hmm looks like the first great game of 2019 will sweep the Patreon GOTY. Get the feeling the Allies will side with Sekiro for their GOTY.

Anonymous

We're a Resident Evil kinda family :)

Anonymous

Days gone is mine but it didn't make the cut so death stranding is next. Not looking good

Anonymous

All killer no filler tier: Sekiro RE2 Outer Wilds Control Mostly filler some killer tier Death Stranding No killer tier Star Wars

Anonymous

Starts chant "Sekiro! Sekiro! Sekiro!"

Anonymous

Mine is Outer Worlds, which is not on the list.

Anonymous

For the Golden Deer baby!

Alexander Zyryanov

I knew my GotY (Borderlands 3) will not make it, as well as some other games from my top 10. But no The Outer Worlds? No A Plague Tale: Innocence? No Sayonara Wild Hearts? And so many other niched games on the list. Either the set of voters is nonrepresentative of Easy Allies community or my perception of Easy Allies community is completely wrong.

Harrison Cordle

Yeah! Can’t believe RE2 has the shot it deserves!

Anonymous

I wish more people played Disco Elysium

Anonymous

I too am rather taken aback that A Plague Tale nor The Outer Worlds got in. Sayonara Wild Hearts is amazing but I think Untitled Goose Game pips it-the fact neither made it in and yet Death Stranding did is sorta mind-boggling, but then you've got to remember that the EZA community are probably hard-working men and women who probably don't have much time for videogames due to jobs, kids and responsibilities-so maybe they desire lengthy games over quality. Oh well we always got our personal picks-although the Allies would rather we all defined our favourite game through a percentage-it's best to write a community showcase letter to express how you feel.

Anonymous

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is better than a handful of games on this list. So many great ideas in that game. My vote goes to Sekiro, though RE2 and Control are close behind. DmC5 shouldn’t be here.

Anonymous

Outer Wilds I've not played for some reason but totally agree that the medium of videogames is soaring and giving the industry a reliable backbone.

Anonymous

I think it's indicative of how great and varying this year of games was that there are so many fantastic games that didn't make it, and the diverse opinions on the games that did. I think the main thing though, is the personal experiences that you had with that game. Everyone will have different moments that touched them, and people will enjoy things less or more than others. But the important thing is that nothing will ever take away your special moments. The moments that make you love games. So, I guess my message here (before I get too rambley, probably too late) is don't take things like this poll, or the upcoming GOTY discussions too seriously. It’s just a bit of fun.

Anonymous

this year is such a diverse year that it mostly just depends on your personal tastes and experiences since there are no real masterclass games.(maybe disco elysium but i have not played it yet.) my goty is fire emblem with DMC5 and sekiro as runner ups.

Anonymous

Lots of great games this year, but none that approached BotW, Mario Odyssey, God of War (2018), or Spider-Man. My personal GotY is Tetris 99. It's the game with which I had the most fun for the longest period of time (I'm still playing it occasionally), and I almost never play online games. It's just super competent and a lot of fun. Sekiro was great, but I feel the platinum trophy hampered it a bit because literally the last 5 hours of my playthrough was just grinding 5 guys over and over again. It was an example of trophies hindering rather than enhancing the overall gameplay experience. I never played Resident Evil 2 before, so checking out RE2 this year was an absolute blast, but I felt the area under RCPD was a little too long for its own good. I enjoyed the game enough to go through both campaigns though, and I'll definitely pick up RE3 at some point this year. Kingdom Hearts III was, honestly, the biggest disappointment for me. I finished Dream Drop Distance, the Aqua game (whatever it was called), and watched Unchained Key in the lead-up to KH3. It irked me that going into 3, Sora starts at level 1. I know the same thing happened in the other games, but it was like he learned nothing from all those other experiences. Also, it was a bit annoying that the most significant plot elements in support of the final battle were from the mobile games. Yes, the movie version of those was included on 2.8 HD Collection and "The Story So Far," so it wasn't inaccessible or anything, but it felt like KH1 and 2 should have been more relevant to the plot than the side games. Of all the games I played last year, Kingdom Hearts III was far from the worst , but it was easily the most disappointing. Fire Emblem: Three Houses holds the distinction of being the only Fire Emblem game I ever finished (I've played literally every FE game that has been released in the West, plus fan translations of some of the unreleased ones). I liked it for a while, but it was too long for its own good, and that was my feeling after only doing one house (Dimitri's). I can't see myself jumping back in to do the other houses. My feelings on this one are weird because I simultaneously enjoyed it and just had enough of it. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a fun, janky mess. It's another situation where the platinum trophy adversely impacted the game. Had I stopped after finishing the story, it would have been pretty good. The lack of fast travel is a major headache in the post-game. I also lost almost 45 minutes of progress during my post-game collectibles cleanup run. I was in a temple on Zeffo or whatever the planet is called, and after finishing it, I took the elevator lift back up to the surface. The surface didn't load--it was just a white void. I thought it was an intentional light effect, so I walked out into the void and fell into nothing. It took a while to die, too. When I reloaded the game, it put me back way before where I was, to the point that it even voided out a bonfire I had utilized a short while before the elevator glitch happened. Good game overall, but really needed to be delayed for polish like everything is getting in 2020. A few other stray thoughts on games I played in 2019: Tales of Vesperia--a game I missed on Xbox 360 since I didn't have a 360. I was dying to play it, but it quickly became one of my least favorite games of the year. The story was okay, but the fact that the cutscenes are long and you have to keep pressing a button to advance through them was annoying--it's a quality of life issue that should have been fixed. I used to love the Tales series and people told me this is one of the best. Maybe I played it at the wrong time, but I really didn't enjoy it. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night--one of my favorite games this year. It followed me completing the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and just scratched that itch for a good, solid Metroidvania. Astral Chain--loved it at first, loved it less by the end. Fun, but too repetitive. Excellent bosses though. Resident Evil 7--finally played this one, probably my personal favorite RE game. This was excellent, and it's the polar opposite of other games mentioned above because the platinum trophy enhanced the experience. I never would have ventured into Madhouse difficulty, but doing it for the platinum run and seeing how it changes the experience was awesome. There's a moment during a boss battle relatively early-on that is drastically changed on Madhouse, and it was up there with the surprise moment during Sekiro (no spoilers) as one of my favorite surprises in gaming. Pokemon Sword--only 3 gym badges in, and I'm really not liking this one. We're having a baby next month, so this will be my "I can play this with one hand" game. I don't like the stadium vibe for gym battles. I always thought the more private, intimate way Red and Blue handled it (and as depicted in the anime) was better. I absolutely despise that catching higher-level Pokemon in the wild area is gated by gym badges. It made me skip the wild area entirely and just push through with the story. Also, every time I see Hop standing there, I cringe because I just know that he's going to stop me from advancing the game with some inane nonsense. Luigi's Mansion 3--Fun. A little too long, but just plain fun. Zelda: Link's Awakening--I liked the aesthetic, including the soundtrack. I didn't even notice the technical issues that people complained about. Link's Awakening is one of my favorite games ever, so I blew through the remake in a weekend on muscle memory alone. It's not the best remake of the year, and it would have been awesome to take the concept and convert it into a full-blown 3D game. I also strongly suspect that Damiani's suspicion about this being a 3DS game that got changed to Switch is accurate. Nonetheless, it's fun and I'll likely replay it this year or next. Yakuza Kiwami--finally checked this series out after all these years and MAN is it good. Kiwami 2 is on my upcoming games docket after I finish DBZ Kakarot, and I'm looking forward to jumping back into Yakuza throughout 2020 with 3-6 and 0. I'm sure the rest of the series varies in terms of quality, but the first game was incredible.

Anonymous

You should check out MinnMax's Deepest Dive on Outer Worlds if you haven't already. It's a really interesting series of discussions. I enjoyed Outer Worlds a lot, but didn't care for the combat. It was a nice change of pace to be able to skip most of the combat in favor of good old fashioned D&D-style conversation checks though.

Anonymous

I have played 0 of these games. What a year.

Jack Sibert

Only on this Patreon would KH3 make a game of the year list lol

Anonymous

Shadowbringers missing the Top 10 hurts

Anonymous

Outer Worlds :(

Anonymous

Even though it is an indie title and a $20-30 game, Outer Wilds was my favorite game of those listed here. I played many of the GotY picks, but I was charmed and surprised by the innovation in Outer Wilds.

Anonymous

I only played RE2 of all of these, and I didn’t adore it like I did RE7

Anonymous

A difficult choice for me between RE2 and Sekiro.... but Sekiro edges it out just slightly, imo.

Anonymous

Sekiro and RE2 are two of my favourite games of all-time. Pretty crazy! However the year stopped after Sekiro I feel like. A lot of disappointments this year imo. Rooting for Sekiro to win this, wouldn't cry however if RE2 took it home. Two great games, but as Huber always say, Sekiro has the best combat system of ALL-TIME.

Anonymous

This wasn't a year full of 10/10s for me, but it was a good year for 8.5/10s. RE2 was the stand out for me personally. Even though I did not play all these games, Disco Elysium looks amazing.

Anonymous

I've not played any of these games ^^; so won't be voting this year. May the best game win!!! My personal GOTY: Sayonara Wild Hearts!

Anonymous

Shout-out to The Walking Dead final season. I'm so happy that I got to see a satisfying conclusion to Clementine's arc.

Anonymous

Yeah, I felt a extreme disturbance in the GOTY force. Still, the community has spoken. May the best game win.

Anonymous

Honorable mention to A Plague Tale. I absolutely adored the narrative in that game

Anonymous

Hi, Christoffer. As much as I adore Huber and like Sekiro, Devil May Cry 3 & 5, as well as Bayonetta 2 have far better combat systems than Sekiro's. There's a great video by the Fextralife people, who shows how the combat boils down to just parrying. They tackle all the bosses and mini-bosses just by parrying, only using items when it's absolutely necessary, which is one or two occasions. I talked about this with many Soulsborne fans and most agree that the sheer amount of reliance on parrying made the combat system less stellar in the long run. It's a great combat system, just very far from the best for many, many reasons. Hopefully, a Sekiro 2 will add more flexibility and versatility to the very solid base of the original game. L & R

Disco!

Anonymous

Only got three plat trophies and one of them is resident evil 2. It has to get my vote. Honourable mention to discoElysium, I havent played a game so clever in a long time,

Anonymous

Disco is dead. I'm an Apocalypse Cop for sure. Now where's my gun?

Anonymous

Outer Wilds. It’s simply incredible that game. It wont win but im glad its on the list.

Anonymous

So conflicted what to pick, Control or Fallen Order.

Anonymous

I wanted to give it to Control, I love basically everything about it, but RE2 is what's there when I look it my heart!

Anonymous

This is the toughest GOTY because all of these games to me are between an 8 and a 9 but RE2 has to be purely the highest quality video game, would have been control if the story was better.

Andrew Chalmers

Y'all crazy for choosing Fire Emblem over games like Luigi's Mansion 3 and Mario Maker 2.

Anonymous

Wish I could vote but I have played none of these games. ☹️. I played lots of Dragon Quest builders 2.

Anonymous

My game of the year is pokemon sw/sh

Anonymous

Can't forget about Life is Strange 2 as well. A compelling original story, backed by some incredible performances and characters, unfortunately hindered by a very stretched release schedule.

Alexander Zyryanov

By the way, people, this system is only good for picking number #1 game. Because if everyone have different #1 (and submitted them), but everyone has the same #2 (which isn't submitted) this #2 will not end up in the Top 10. So if your favorite game didn't make into this Top 10, there's a good chance that many others still liked it and would vote for it if they could.

AnAttackCorgi

I'm sure RE2 is a great game, that I'll get some flack for this, yada yada but I don't think remakes belong on the GOTY list. I voted for Fallen Order simply bc it's the star wars game we all wanted and shows a ton of promise. With a single player Star Wars game doing well and the trilogy movies wrapped up, the future of Star Wars looks incredibly bright.

Anonymous

Dragon Quest Builders 2 was my personal GOTY for 2019 (and it got no love ☹️)

Anonymous

RE2 deserves that win. Many other games also probably deserve the win, but 2019 was a great year for games and RE2 just blew me away. <3

Anonymous

Thank you DMC5 for showing the world how it's done, the best combat, the best boss fights and level design that keeps its focus around interesting and well hidden challenges, and a ton of replaybility. It didn't max-act my expectations but it definitely exceeded them. Thanks Itsuno!
