When we announced Phase 4, we mentioned that there were some things that we couldn’t discuss yet, and today we’re excited to announce that starting next month we’re changing how our two biggest podcasts are sponsored. The sales network Roost, run by Rooster Teeth, will be helping us provide ads for the Easy Allies Podcast and Frame Trap. It’s important to note that Rooster Teeth does not have any ownership of Easy Allies or any say over how we produce our shows. This partnership is simply to better facilitate relationships with sponsors and to ensure that they come in consistently.

This means that on November 25th we will be removing the $700 Mega Sponsor, $500 Podcast Sponsor, and $250 Frame Trap Sponsor reward tiers. We have reached out to current sponsors to let them know of the change, and we’re exploring ways they can still support us. Primarily, we’re introducing a new tier in which patrons can get a quick shoutout on every episode of the Easy Allies Podcast, Frame Trap, Friend Code, and Reaction Shots. This will be non-commercial in nature, but will still allow us to recognize patrons who want to show us support in larger ways.

When this change takes place in December, sponsors will only appear on public versions of podcasts. Patrons will have access to separate ad-free versions, which some of you may prefer as extra incentive for your support.

One of the purposes for this change is to separate advertisers from our Patreon. While it worked well enough when we started, Patreon hasn’t always been the best fit for sponsorships. As larger companies have grown interested in becoming sponsors, asking them to create Patreon accounts to facilitate these transactions isn’t ideal. Plus, the fluctuation of short-term sponsors can result in confusing swings in the growth of our Patreon when only a handful of people join or drop out at those levels. The loss of the higher reward tiers will cause an initial drop in our Patreon numbers by several thousand dollars, but afterwards, our growth should be more consistent and easy to understand. Similar to how we removed goals at the beginning of Phase 4, we want to do as much as we can to remove factors that create unnecessary stress for anyone who closely watches our growth.

What does this mean for Easy Allies?
The immediate effect will be minimal for viewers, listeners, and patrons, but starting in December, you’ll notice us focusing on other sponsors during those podcasts. It'll be strange not having some of the sponsors we've grown to know and love over the years, but we’ll be putting our own spin on brands you’ve probably heard of on other popular shows. You may start seeing our work pop up in places that Rooster Teeth promotes, getting our faces in front of an entirely new audience. We may also get to try out other promotional opportunities with them in the future, including sponsorships on additional shows.

Why Roost?
They’re one of the most experienced groups in this field, and while we’ve had friends at Rooster Teeth for a long time, it was only recently that we discovered this opportunity to partner with them. Like everything with Phase 4, this change will give us more time to focus on creating fun videos for you to enjoy, instead of worrying about the business side of things. None of us are particularly good at that stuff. Roost is.

There are other opportunities that we’re exploring with Roost as well, but sponsorship is the only thing that will directly affect this Patreon. For more info on what they do, you can visit https://www.roostnetwork.com. This doesn’t replace our need for your support in any way; it’s just a change in one piece of the puzzle. You helped get us here, and this partnership is going to help us get even further. If you have questions, we can answer them below and we’ll cover all this again on Cup of Jones.

Makes me feel nervous.

Anonymous

Awe, kinda liked the current format for ads. If this is better for the shows then I'm all for it though, Love and Respect.

Anonymous

No more Podcast Halftime?

Anonymous

Honestly sounds good, thanks for the heads up

Anonymous

I don't like this at all. Can't help but feel this is the first step in becoming a rooster teeth owned channel.

Anonymous

And so begins the age of Blue Apron

Anonymous

Great news guys. Hopefully this means as you have someone dealing with ads and sponsors you can concentrate more on content. We all hope it goes well.

Anonymous

Awesome -- I suspect this will make sponsors and dedicated money coming in the door to the Allies far more consistent and reliable, which is only a good thing for the Allies and those of us watching their content!

Anonymous

Really thorough and well-reasoned post. This will be a really exciting few months for you folks, I'm sure. Can't wait to see the results.

Anonymous

I think this is a good solution for long term growth. Can't wait to up my pledge again in the new year. Cheers Allies!

Anonymous

I hope the actual time taken or vibe of podcast halftime doesn’t change too much. I’ve listened to other podcasts which started using ads through rooster teeth, and the ad length slowly increased to unlistenable lengths. I trust in you guys for the change, but still wanted to put one of my fears down here

Professor Metal Gear

This honestly isn't as bad as it might seem. I sponsor other podcasts through Patreon that also use Roost and as long as EZA will provide some form of ad free version of their core podcasts for Patrons, it should work out well. It will be interesting to see if ads show up in content that normally doesn't get have ads to begin with.

Anonymous

I'm wary of Rooster teeth, since I don't particularly like them, but will be happy to have ad free podcasts. So long as I don't hear a ton from RT, I should be fine.

Anonymous

More consistent sponsorship is a good thing, and getting ad-free shows as an unexpected benefit is quite welcome. Hope EZA can maintain its independence for years to come.

Anonymous

Go for it guys! I mean part of growth is altering revenue streams so if you think it is a good idea then I am all for it

Anonymous

Strongly against: I know it's an awkward wrangle each month, but I'm charmed and happy with the way Easy Allies do ads. I don't skip them. I don't want generic podcast ads they are longer and more disruptive to a podcast. At the very least I hope you'll include a musical bed under these so that it's very clear what is podcast and what is ads.

Anonymous

Great news! Excited for you guys to get this chance to grow.

Kaleb

This is exactly what I needed to hear, glad you guys are going to be getting bigger sponsors and more exposure. EZA growing further is only good news.

Anonymous

Will the Ad-Free version of the podcast be available for all patrons or only those at a certain tier and above?

Connor Rosine

Anything that moves EZA towards sustainability without sacrificing independence is great in my mind. I'll miss the unique set of sponsors EZA has (car keys express 4 ever), but it's a small price to pay for you guys getting some more reliability on revenue(and maybe the lid coming off the upside from podcast growth)!

Tygre

Taking advertising money through Patreon was never going to be sustainable, so this makes total sense.

Anonymous

Dangit I was looking forward to my December shilling of Jigarbov Productions! I'm hoping the spin you guys put on the new ads are super awesome.

Anonymous

Sounds like a good move forward!

Anonymous

Very happy to hear this change! If it means more income for you folks, then perfect!

Anonymous

Wishing the best. Hoping for a smooth and ridiculously lucrative transition

Anonymous

Sounds positive for the most part. I'm interested in how "ad free" version vs public version will be. Will the public version's ads be introduced similar to Podcast halftime or will it be random throughout or lower thirds appearing like I'm watching Mixer. I'm happy and excited, I just hate Paterons interface so needing to go through Pateron to find older episodes without ads doesn't bring much excitement

Connor Rosine

I don't see the path from here to there at all - why do you think that?

Anonymous

Sounds good to me, the only hope I have is that the RT influence never (ever!) manifests itself over the content you guys will be doing (talking especially about sponsored content from gamepublishers like Ubisoft etc), wether it is 6 months or 2 years from now.

Professor Metal Gear

Probably not, but I expect they will have to inject an ad after every 30 minutes to fulfill their obligation to Roost and their advertisers. The ad free version will remove these through the magic of editing.

Anonymous

While I'll miss seeing Elthanas and Car Keys Express every week I've felt since almost the beginning of Easy Allies that the few giant patrons had too much impact on the Patreon. I'm not familiar enough with Roost to say I'm excited about them but I'm not against a change up in how sponsors work.

Anonymous

This makes a lot of sense for you guys and I love how there will still be ad free links on Patreon :) The future is exciting!

Anonymous

I'm going to miss hearing some of those names. Car keys express, I thank you for the years of support. Along with Blue, Dark Knight and so many others I wish I could remember.

Anonymous

will there be a patreon-only ad-free video version as well?

Anonymous

I'm sort of bummed out because I genuinely enjoyed the advertisements and hearing the different folks and organizations that sponsored the cast at massive cost to themselves. At the same time this sounds like a reasonable business decision and I'm sure that having ad free versions of the podcast will be welcome. All in all, it's a change - one that I'm sure we will all come to be used to. I'm going to miss that "OUR MEGA SPONSORRRRR" bit, though.

EasyAllies

That's a fair point. Perhaps I'll start adding them to the exclusive episodes page on the website. -Bloodworth

Anonymous

To anyone who might freak out, Kinda Funny's done the exact same thing for quite a while and it's really a non-issue at the end of the day. Like every other podcast out there, Jones and Ben will read two ads, and then things will continue as normal. It sounds a lot more controversial on paper than it will be in execution.

Anonymous

I really enjoyed that update. It made a lot of sense about why the change to sponsorship is happening and it educated me on how the patreon dollar amount is reflected and why other brands that i heard in hundreds of other podcasts were never read in the EasyAllies podcasts. Thanks Jones.

Anonymous

Great change! I've been thinking since after the first year that the sponsor plugs are worth way more than the Patreon tiers. Ad free makes it a lot more tempting to come back since the current early access times don't work for me too

Anonymous

I'll miss the change from charming ads to extremely impersonal business ones, but I understand. Ad Free Podcasts for Patrons sound pretty dope, but I wonder if I'll miss Podcast Halftime or whatever too. Might have to load up the Youtube Versions occasionally just to hear the ad bits. I also worry about you guys working with Rooster Teeth, but hopefully it stays mostly superficial in a sense of them feeding yall ad revenue sources. The Patreon numbers stabilizing more, if the new shoutout tier doesn't undo that, sounds good though.

Anonymous

I'll be upset if Kyle betrays hydrobot for dollar shave club.

Angus DeBee

This really bums me out a lot. Easy Allies was the only place that has funny and unique ads. Now I'm going to have to hear the same terrible ads for toothbrushes and mattresses.

Anonymous

Oh wow! Congrats guys! I’m glad you went through Roost! They have done so much when it comes to helping creators like you guys find the right sponsors, and help establishing a name for your brand in the eyes of sponsors so they come to you!

Dennis M.

Sounds good (and a little bit scary)

Harrison Holt-McHale

Two separate versions of the podcasts is going to split the community as far as the comment section goes. Not sure how to solve that, but I've always enjoyed talking with people in comments sections on Podcasts.

Anonymous

Does this mean a smaller cut taken with Roost than Patreon?

Owen

I mean they did say patrons will have an ad free feed.

Owen

Do yall hear that? It sounds like its PODCAST HALFTIIIIIIIIIIIME - Hopefully Kyle makes room for some sort of new bit in there.

Anonymous

Cheers, hopefully Salmon Globe stays on as a sponsor.

Anonymous

Bummer mostly because even though I am a patreon I watch all your content on youtube just out of convenience. Won't love hearing the same ads I hear on all other content. I get that this is probably going to create a much more stable income for the podcasts though.

Anonymous

It kinda says something about how cool EZA is that people are even passionate about the ads that go on the shows, including myself.

Tristan Gray

This feels like a step away from the close bond with the community and a step towards corporatism. Really not looking forward to the same old awkward razor and underwear ads that appear on literally everything else, especially because it distances the way we see people support EZA. With Patreon sponsors, they felt a part of the community with gifted sponsors, community member support, and businesses that actually care who spreads their business. This sucks a good bit of soul out of the podcast, and I’m sad to see this as the path for the company. I understand that money talks and sponsor slots haven’t been filling, but this is the first thing that has shaken my support of EZA, and I’m really nervous for the change in December. L&R

EasyAllies

Well, Salmon Globe has never sponsored the podcast. So they won't have anything to worry about. -Bloodworth

Anonymous

I wonder if the ad free version won't be on Youtube as well just has an unlisted video and then the ad version is shown to the public. It probably won't be that much different if you follow the link in the Patreon email.

Anonymous

Not sure about having a separate video for patrons. This means double work for editors, Blood and Kyle (corrections for the podcast) and also this will split users who leave comments. At this very moment it just seems like more work for unclear benefits.

Anonymous

I'm happy that you're keeping independence and this can only help with your own growth. Good luck.

Anonymous

I'm all for it, glad to see that business is going on behind the scenes. Thank you for working hard to keep this growing. Those few months between GT and EZA were honestly just me going through GT Archives, so when the announcement video came out, I got chills up my spine. Let's build this empire!

Anonymous

One more step into commercialization, i understand it's ultimately a business. But it feels like something that made EZA EZA ... will be lost. EZA had unique "ads" and those weren't even bad to listen to. And since it's rooster teeth i guess it will be the same companies and ads that are run on funhaus and their other affiliated channels, hearing about blue apron or hims or whatever with that faked enthusiasm always leaves a bad taste back for me ...

Anonymous

Really think this change is the best move for you guys. It will only help growth and stability for EZA. As many mentioned above, a huge L&R to those who helped sponsor Easy Allies up to this point to get this new business venture off the ground floor. Now with this new arrangement, hopefully EZA can take their next step as a young company on their way to IGN levels of success!

Anonymous

Oh well, ads are ads. Love you guys! Some excellent hustling!

Anonymous

You all hear that? Sounds like no more Podcast Halftiiiiime :( JK, hope everything works out!

Anonymous

Ouch. Was thinking of upping my tier but if you’re going full business/real ads I’ll stick with $1.

Anonymous

My only question is does this give room for, well "unique" versions of ads from sponsors, or if it's going to be straight copy-read. I love when podcasts put their kind of unique spin on certain advertisers, and it'd be awesome to still hear your "voice" with advertisers whomever they may be (I feel like sponsors now write their copy for -you- and that makes them unique, so I would be sad to lose that even as a Patron who would get the ad-free versions. Sometimes the ad-reads provide good entertainment, too!). I love the idea of a Patron shoutout too and wonder if there's a certain level of uniqueness you could attribute to that (maybe something similar to how the winner of bets gets to promote things, etc.?)! Any change that helps you guys keep providing good content is a positive change though!

Mark van Dijken

Just adding my 2 cents, this seems like a very sensible decision. Focussing on the things your good at and delegating the things your not good at is usually a smart move as long as you don't lose all control over your own fate.

Anonymous

This sounds like a positive change overall, I just hope that you push to make sure that the podcast sponsors still feel like part of the community. Hearing the same old MeUndies ad I get everywhere else would be a very sad substitute for car repair companies named after animes, or video games that compare themselves to Forrest Gump

Anonymous

What ever you need to do to keep making the videos I love. <3

Anonymous

A bit of a shame, in that it feels less like a mom-and-pop store, but I definitely understand the reason for it. My only minor complaint is already taken care of with the separate ad-free versions. Godspeed.

Owen

We get an ad free version for being a Patron. So no bad taste to have.

Anonymous

Reading some of the comments here, I can understand why so many people are worried about you guys "going full business." It is a slight departure from EZA's foundation and feels like it's losing some of that homey vibe, but I have seen the decline in sponsors, and all i want is for you guys to stay financially healthy and grow--you all deserve it after all these years. I honestly don't see this as you guys "going full business," and I fully support you in this move. I hope others can keep an open mind about what this actually means.

Owen

We get an ad free version of the show though.

Anonymous

I have been hoping for a step like this for a long time. Using Patreon for sponsorships has long seemed a bit too restrictive.

Anonymous

Mate, if you want EZA to be stable into the future, they can't be reliant on Patreon for their "professional tier" contributions. You and I both know that there are huge problems with the Patreon platform, which might be fine for us small fries but are probably getting in the way of bigger supporters coming on board. Especially as the viewership & Patreon numbers are starting to plateau.

Anonymous

Overall a good call, I think. It'll be sad to see some old favorites go, especially more obscure ones like Blue and Beaten Down Brian. Will there still be gifted sponsors as an option? That was a really cool thing that you did to shine lights on charities and impactful organizations. Love the option for patreon supporters to get an ad-free version. It helps keep this from feeling like some outside force will be injecting generic corporate sponsorship into the middle of the podcast. Not that I expect you guys to allow that, but with change there's always that kind of fear. Keep up the great work! Praying for you guys. L&R

Megan Linart

I’m ok with this so far...as long as your independence stays completely intact I’ll be fine, of course any change like this can be a scary one, but for now I’m cool and respect your choice and I hope this can lean into a more financially comfortable situation for you all 😊 L&R

Anonymous

I trust that you guys know how to run your business better than we do, that you're doing what you believe is best for your business and likely it is in fact what is best for you, but I will miss the grassroots feeling of having sponsors on here that I've never heard of elsewhere and you know are genuinely fans of EZA, and those will be replaced by the same ads heard all over the internet. But I guess with ad-free versions available I probably won't notice the change as long as those are reasonably easy to access, not that I minded listening to ads for sponsors who are part of the community.

Anonymous

Woah, to me this is the biggest change for Phase 4 by far. It makes sense, but still a big change. Thank you for releasing ad free versions though, I already hear enough ads for Casper mattress.

Anonymous

I don't like the conformity of having the same repetitive ads as so many other creators, and your current sponsors are one of several things that sets you apart from everyone else, but I'm a Patron and will definitely take advantage of the ad-free version and in the end I want you guys to have stability so I'm all for it.

Anonymous

I have full faith that the Allies have our back, now and always. I'm sure it will be for the best. I'd assume having corporate overlords again is the last thing they want. Yes podcast halftime was charming but from the sound of things that will probably just become community shoutttow haha and stay relatively the same.

Anonymous

Dang, huge change. I have mixed feelings on this but hope it works out for the best.

Anonymous

Well, I hope it brings in a lot more money. Hearing generic podcast ads from you guys will certainly be a little jarring. I've always appreciated your authenticity and this might subtly shift that perception. I appreciate the ad-free option, though.

Anonymous

I'd always thought it would be neat to save up and one month become a sponsor to plug my little mobile games. It doesn't seem like there's a good option anywhere for that with this new setup? That's honestly a little disappointing.

Anonymous

It's not really the same but you could show them off in the Community Showcase.

Anonymous

Will the only way to access the ad free version be a link emailed to patrons? I love using the YouTube app. It’s easy and I’m a premium subscriber. Emailed private links create some unnecessary haste to get the content I want. Not a deal breaker just curious. Thanks

Anonymous

I will miss the podcast sponsors that had a unique place at Easy Allies that had their own flair to the sponsors segment, but - it’s the best decision for the entity that is Easy Allies. Thanks for an “ad-free” version. I’d sit through the ads if necessary and still support you. But, it’s a great alternative!

Anonymous

This is a super exciting update - congrats on the new setup!!

EasyAllies

There's no way we can notify you via YouTube and keep it private. You'll have to navigate through Patreon one way or another just as with our early access and exclusive shows. -Bloodworth

Anonymous

Ad-free feed so I'm 100% cool with this. Please check out the way funhaus and the rest of RoosterTeeth are doing their ad-reads now, they splice the ads into the video rather than cutting the ads out for patrons/members. It really helps keeps the flow of the show going smoothly. (ie. Dosn't derail conversations or topic segways). Or maybe you are just keeping podcast halftime which totally detailed the podcast (in a good way though, I love how incredibly rude Kyle would announce it sometimes)

Anonymous

Great to hear your continuing to look at how you grow your audience and business. I'm more than sure with your experience with Defy you all know what to look for and what to avoid. Sure, I'm concerned with joining networks, but I feel you guys know what your doing.

Anonymous

Love the fact that patreons get a ad-free version. This just confirmed my pledge that i was about to deop. Honestly, i just fastforwarded the halftime...

Anonymous

We're getting an ad-free version. Did people not read the whole article?

Anonymous

Really glad about the Patron podcast removing sponsors. It always felt odd.

Anonymous

So at which tier will the ad-free version be? $5, I assume?

Anonymous

Sounds promising. Ad free versions are nice, too.

Anonymous

As much as I liked the PBS vibes of the old sponsors, I have no problem with this. I always feel vaguely guilty about scrolling through podcast half-time, so getting it ad-free on patreon is a big draw. If it makes the paycheque more stable each month and perhaps cuts down on the time that you guys (Blood? Jones?) have to spend locking down sponsors, I can't see too many drawbacks!

Anonymous

Great move, as it will provide a more consistent and reliable revenue stream whilst you continue to maintain your independence in ownership.

Anonymous

I completely agree. Patreons should get the complete product. Worst thing that would happen is if we feel like we're missing something

Anonymous

Seems like a step backward and actually feels kinda icky (Rooster Teeth is... a mixed bag), but you guys have earned enough trust to try something new. I think my gut negativity is mostly because this is removing one thing that makes EZA stand out among its peers.

Zach Quest Maikranz

I listen to a handful of podcasts that have sponsors and they are able to still keep their same brand of humor while doing ads. For us it won't be any different than what we already get except this time staff will be making more money. That's a win for everyone. And seeing how Patreon funding has dropped almost 4k since they got the studio I am very much in support of this. The EZA lads will be themselves through and through, that's been proven over the years. L&R!

Anonymous

$1 actually, confirmed by Bloodworth & Jones. $5 will be early access & ad-free.

Anonymous

Yes, dope! Much trust in you guys. This sounds like a hell of a smart move, I'm with it 100%. To be honest, as a patron, I'll miss podcast halftime haha. L&R.

Anonymous

Rooster teeth does some extremely gross sometimes predatory feeling ads that are hyper targeted for their fans. "Hey are you a young tech savvy guy who wants to earn a quick buck? Try this beginners investing platform! We swear you won't lose all your money!" Or another blatantly gross thing that sticks out in my mind is Adam kovic railing against college talking consistently about how it's a scam (he's right) on podcasts and videos for years, only to throw his morals under the bus after recently getting paid handsomely through the roosterteeth fullsail partnership to do speeches/appearances at one of the most notoriously bullshit overpriced artschools in existence. One of the reasons I stopped watching and supporting roosterteeth content entirely was because of their gross wheeling and dealing part of that being once I realized how good your guys' ads were. I even made a post on the funhaus subreddit about not liking the ads where I use you guys as a reference for what funhaus should try to turn their ads toward. If it's just the public content and not the patreon content I'm obviously not personally affected but obviously I don't think this is a good idea at all unless you guys have a granularity when it comes to choosing the ads you serve.

Anonymous

In the recent (currently running) Cup of Jones, Jones says they can choose which sponsor to accept and which not to.

Anonymous

I've been working on a short film that I had always wanted to advertise on the EZA Podcast once it's finished. Is there a way I will still be able to do this? As I understand it the shout-out tier would not be applicable for this. Do I need to contact The Roost and request the EZA Podcast?

EasyAllies

You probably won't be able to advertise it on the podcast, but you can reach out to us to see if there's somewhere else we can feature it. Like sponsoring a group stream or something. -Bloodworth

Anonymous

One thing I love about EZA is their independence so I'm wary of the RoosterTeeth influence. But if RT is just there to help with sponsorships and ads then that's ok I guess.

Anonymous

Hmm... You're going to ALL need to weigh in on this. This needs a very long full crew video. If you don't then what the fuck you doing?

Anonymous

I like to listen to old episodes during long trips. Any chance / place to get an add-free playlist like on Apple podcasts? Cause i can’t create a playlist via the patreon app, can i?

Anonymous

About Merch. PLZ, could you provide a coupon or special discount on spreadshirt.com? I would like buy some Easy allies merch before "the shutdown". Thanx.

EasyAllies

We don't have control over those promotions, but there is a free shipping code currently, FREENOVEMBER As well as some upcoming discounts around the end of the month / beginning of next month. -Bloodworth

EasyAllies

There isn't a playlist that we could make, but there are a few ways you could accomplish this. For one, you could use your personalized Patreon RSS to access them as you can now. You could download the mp3s individually from each post and build something manually. Or you could use the YouTube links to create your own playlist -- just please keep your playlist private as well. -Bloodworth

Anonymous

Sounds well thought through and anything that increases financial stability is a good move in my view. A good day :)

Star Tsurugi

RWBY ads in my EZA? More likely than I think. And not entirely unwelcome.

Anonymous

Not gonna lie. I’m a little bummed since I liked hearing about what other patrons were working on. (Like the recent streamer sponsor and stuff like Hoeg). But overall I think this is a great thing! Being able to focus on your strong suits and what you enjoy more is truly a blessing! Happy for you guys. My one request is that you don’t do the ball hair shaving sponsor just stick to leesa or something please... haha

Danni-H4

I understand the change

Danni-H4

This was one of my concerns about the $250 $500 $700 sponsorship tiers. So this indeed clears up my worries.

Anonymous

What's the minimum patron support tier that will not receive the terrible new ads?

Anonymous

Hi, Chris. To be completely honest, I always hated those parts in the Kinda Funny videos. It feels exactly like the stuff that's on TV programs hosted by people. They stop out of nowhere and spend 1-2 minutes talking about a product or service. It completely pulls me out of it. Even at the beginning, it still feels very corporate and turns me off for a few minutes. I understand it's necessary, just like TV commercials, but it's still bad. Thankfully, EZA will have it ad-free for Patrons. Though it does pose the question of how well it will be executed for non-Patrons, if it's annoying, I fear that might put-off people more than entice them to join EZA's Patron for an ad-free version. A wait and see situation, but hoping for the best. L & R

VGJunky

I'm fine with it

VGJunky

What would they say in a video that's not outlined in this post

VGJunky

P.S. watch Cup of Jones for more on this topic

Anonymous

Good to hear, you guys need to start making the big bucks.

Anonymous

I have mixed feelings about this announcement. I know of course that in order for Easy Allies to continue to grow and reach a wider audience that you will need to make changes, it is a business after all. Obtaining more financing is important because it will allow you to improve so many areas like production value and also, in the long run, provide the Allies with higher wages for their dedication and hard work. My concern is that you may start to become too mainstream, by that I mean you will be doing what everyone else is doing and stop doing it your way. I love the family and togetherness feel you have with us supporters. Even the way you dealt with the sponsors, for me was unique and you had a close relationship (like with Hoeglaw). In the end, I'm not saying that change shouldn't happen but I am just saying that there are ways you can make changes and still keep your identity so please don't outsource everything and become like many companies who just do what everyone else is doing. I think Easy Allies is so unique and has such an amazing community and i think that is because of how you approach and carry yourself as a company. I just hope Easy Allies doesn't change too much in the coming years to where it feels like a totally different company.

VGJunky

Shouldn't have any bearing. This is literally just a switch from the Allies having to wrangle Patron sponsors to sponsors handled by a 3rd party.

Anonymous

This sounds like a fantastic change. Can't wait to see how it plays out. The lack of sponsors in recent months was really worrying me so I am super pumped for this. L&R!

Brandon Robinson

Sounds great! Love and respect guys!

Christian Dueñas

Totally makes sense. I will miss the weird in-jokes that happened with Patreon sponsors, but I get why y’all are changing it up. At my company, we do something called Jumbotrons, where fans pay a one time fee to get a (non-commercial) shoutout on a show of their choosing. I think it’s a fun way to engage as a fan that isn’t like, trying to sell anything specifically, just to support the show you love in a bigger way.

Anonymous

I don’t love this tbh but much of phase 4 hasn’t really gelled for me. Maybe it’s because I wanted to be a sponsor down the line or because I don’t love rooster teeth or because it’s one of the reasons I listen to kinda funny way less. It makes me think about micro transactions: an argument is that if I don’t use, see or need them, are they still bad? So many people say we won’t see the ads with the ad free versions so what does it matter. Idk it still feels bad. That’s what this feels like in some ways. No offense to Blood or Jones but for this I need some thoughts from ben, Damiani, Ian and kyle to help me move on from this personally.

Anonymous

I had a plan, Jones. I had a plan! Congrats. Seems like an idea that promotes more stable revenues and makes a ton of sense. But my plan!!!

Anonymous

I was just listening to another prominent video games podcast and they had two sponsors - hair loss treatment for men and a men's personal genital grooming device. The overall ad treatment was really long, like 3-5 mins. Personally didn't like that. Hopefully there is more choice in what ads to read out.

Anonymous

Honestly I was surprised Rooster Teeth didn’t bring you guys on when GT shut down, especially considering former GT members Elyse and Omar already work under Rooster Teeth at Funhaus. I think this is a great decision to help more easily manage advertisements and monetisation, and the ad-free patron versions is a great incentive for us. Don’t understand why anyone is acting hostile about this, it’s a win-win for patrons.

P.S. give us more hoodie designs

Sweet! I just become a Patron again! I had to drop out before cause I lost my job. But I'm back making money again and would love to support Phase 4! L&R

Please no genital grooming adverts, it's hard not to picture balls, the last thing I want to think about every damn time.

I am happy that your growth takes on new form. On to the next years for Easy Allies.

We get ad free so I'm not bummed in the least. Whatever helps EZA prosper is cool with me! I've already seen Blood stating that there will probably be opportunities to promote patreon backer created things in some way so that was my only real question/concern. I had long dreamed of saving up the $$ to have that sweet Jones/Ben read of my copy one day. Maybe something else can be worked out.

"Patrons will have access to separate ad-free versions,"...ok that is key right there. I admit my first reaction when I saw the email was to roll my eyes as at the very least you guys where able to control ads in terms of how you dispersed them as we knew when and where they were going to be on the show. I kinda feel I have to be a Patron now, as I absolutely despise ads of the random variety and last thing I want is EZA to have to tell about hygiene products in the middle of the show(spare the free audience that if you can). It's a good thing I love you guys

Great for you guys getting bigger! You had to start out growing us sometime and you need to to survive. Back door shady deals are in our future but unfortunately that is apart of it. No one wants to be dependent on Patreon forever and as you get more successful you will get more corporate. There is no avoiding it. Hope you guys value your freedom a bit more than MORE MONEY! I believe you do!

Actually catching up with Cup of Jones has waylaid a lot of my worries about this new arrangement. That charming fellow put my mind at ease. For one I welcome our new RoosterTeeth overlords.

It was only a matter of time I guess, the patreon format can only take you so far, this was one of the things I wasn't looking forward to, ads ads ads ads, ugh, I know it helps the brand but it also takes away soul, it becomes more generic for a bigger audience that doesn't care as much, I'll still be here because I LOVE and RESPECT everyone of these guys, but I can't help but feel they lost a little soul because of this :'(

Ad free version is definitely a good incentive for Patrons. This will encourage me to watch the early access feeds rather than the later youtube uploads. I think this is a good incentive. Hopefully, those non-patrons watching the podcasts via youtube would at least be encouraged to become a $1 patron if they want to be free of ads.

Hi Jones, I just want to put in my 2 cents that if the patrons get an "ad-free version" I personally would still like to hear the Patron paid "shawdawts" so if they could be two separate things that'd be great.

This news feels just a bit concerning, but I'll trust your word if this isn't going to drastically change the way you make videos. As long as we can still get the all goofy antics of the allies and more, I hope it works out. (I also just don't like change. Seeing a studio instead of a garage was incredibly weird for a while. Don't take it personally from me.)

As someone who listens to a good chunk of Wrestling podcasts I’m tired of manscaping ads too hah
