Just want to point out the obvious, but its nice that when you guys report on somebody else's reporting - you do just that. Let your audience know it wasn't your reporting. I see tons of outlets basically regurgitate parts of the Kotaku article then cite it at the end. That type of reporting, to me, is stealing. Just because you cite the original work doesn't mean anything if you don't provide an original take or have anything constructive to add.

I appreciate it as well. One that comes to mind was YongYeaʻs coverage of the articles, I just felt it was kind of weird that he made a twenty-something minute video basically recounting the article, even reading excerpts.

“Judge Eyes” and the Problem of “Dubtitles” in Games Hey Allies, Most foreign films and anime these days come with two separate English subtitle tracks: one that provides captions and another that provides a more direct translation of the original language with the original meaning retained. This is not the case for games. Most games only include the “dubtitle” track, meaning that even if you change the voices to their original language, the subtitles and text will still be for the English localization. This is true even of a game like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which sets the default voice language to Japanese to convey a greater sense of immersion and authenticity. As a semi-fluent speaker of Japanese, it bums me out to notice the constant discrepancies between the audio and the text, especially because a more accurate translation would allow me to practice my Japanese while enjoying my favorite hobby. HOWEVER, it was recently announced that the upcoming game “Judgement” will include both forms of English subtitles, and I’m very excited. It gives me hope that this could spark a sea change across the video games industry, but I have to wonder: Is this too niche of a concern to gain any traction? Would you guys be personally interested in seeing this included in more games? Love & Respect

Localization is not direct translation and the latter is bad most of the time.

If it's a subtitle then I expect majority direct translation with a little wiggle room if it's just a straight up cultural/linguistic difference that we'd never understand For VO/Dub I expect more work to have to be put into the scriptwriting since you need to make it sound as natural as possible
