It would appear that the current schedule for Trailer Jones is: shoot a few days before the end of the month, then edit/post in the beginning of then next month. So here is a look at three trailers from the month of February (and GDC of last year) that I thought were worth talking to Brad and Huber about. Something they'd definitely seen, something they had heard about but missed, and something they discovered for the very first time. I implemented some notes from comments on recent episodes of Cup of Jones and hopefully the show is a little better because of it.

Trailer Jones - Anthem, Close to the Sun, and Link's Awakening

Link's Awakening put a smile on many faces, but what other recent trailers are worth talking about? Jones shows Brad and Huber a reveal trailer for a moody puzzler they've never heard of, and questions how much money should have been spent on Anthem's marketing - particularly on a gorgeous, but vague, live-action spot by Neill Blomkamp. Thanks for considering some of the feedback from recent COJ episodes, Jones! I felt like the flow of conversation and the score reveal changes really helped highlight each panelist's opinion and voice on the trailers while also still allowing collaborative discussion. The selection of trailers happening to work out between ones they've seen, heard of, and weren't aware of also allowed for great POVs for each one. Looking forward to the next one!

Jones, I've just gotta say those score reveal botches? That's on you. It looked as though you announced your score for the Link's Awakening trailer before you had even begun to write it down which kind of defeats the purpose. I feel like a better method is to reveal your scores at the same time to build anticipation and perhaps provide a shock when scores might vary by a larger margin. Then you could first focus on a score that intrigues you and their reasoning. As suggested by others, whiteboards might help with that sort of reveal to be more visible in person, but as a viewer it might not be that necessary because you edit the score in visually anyway. That said, a decent episode overall. I guess none of the trailers were really outstanding IMO, which affects how interesting the discussion might be.

I'm not on Patreon a lot so maybe I missed my chance to weigh in on this but I'm not a fan of writing the scores out. I always felt like each person having their moment to talk about it and then dropping the score at the end really helped everyone clarify their own thoughts before finally deciding on a score. I also feel like the act of writing it down breaks up the flow of the conversation a tiny bit.

Yeah the writing of the scores kinda felt weird but maybe it’ll take time getting used to. Another thing that’s been a problem is others not talking enough or being cut off. Brad n Huber did speak up I feel than previous episodes and allies. Jones did say Huber was stealing the show which was probably a joke but he does tend to talk more and cut people off. Perhaps this is a side effect of trying to be concise and short, I don’t know.

Writing the scores was requested by many viewers of Trailer Jones (myself included). Basically the idea is that if one person says their score, it will have an impact on how the other two will score the trailer. In having each person write their score down before any scores are revealed, that will prevent one persons score from being impacted by another.

Love the changes! Great to see you taking the feedback to heart.

I also appreciate the changes. Just one thing, Id like everyone to reveal their score on their own after writing it down. This is probably better than this handing the paper to Jones thing. nice episode!

Haven't watched the video yet, but just adding the trailers url in the post is a big win.

I liked the mention of other notable trailers at the end of the video, along with clips of them.

Jones, I see you all decided to part your hair on the opposite side and move your wedding rings from your left hands to your right... interesting changes indeed.

I think writing the scores is a nice change and doesn't have to break up the flow, but that just takes a little getting used to it. Please do let the others present their score and explain it, though, instead of handing them over to you to have you tell us the score to let them then explain why.

Great content. I miss the audio only version though.
