This is a video of my brainstorming process.

In case you guys are wondering, making these videos doesn't cut into my writing time. I've been wanting to do a youtube channel for a while now. It's actually quite cathartic to talk about all this stuff, even if it's just to a camera yenno?

It also helps with questions about my writing. I've gotten a quite a few PM's from people on RRL wondering how I do this. Better to answer them all and for all time with a single video then responding to each one individually.

Oh yeah, feel free to leave suggestions for improvement in this process if you'd like. I'm always looking for ways to improve.

I had a question about Daniel's ability that lets him survive a one hit insta-kill. Does it only trigger once per combat or is it any time he would lose 100% health he loses 70% instead?

Anonymous

It's the latter, which means that with his insanely high health regen, it has the potential to work many times during combat Keep in mind that the tree that let's him do that is only invincibility I, that means that there is probably invincibility II and so on

Soon Daniel will have to change his name from hillside to mountainside.

Tyler Babcock

Based on how Monsoon just named the MC in this video, Hillside is a literal spoiler as to how he wanted Daniel to go stronger. A hill being big, Daniel being big.

Your story conceptualization process is very methodical and efficient however you seem to forget about one of the core supporting pillars of storytelling; characters. My comment is that many find creating characters that thread well into the plot involves thinking of where will they be before the story starts, at the start, and at the end. This CNA then be used to construct characters around their past and what they will need to do. Lastly don't forget to give EVREY character a quirk or something to remember them by so that they feel more human and the audience can better associate said character with said thing, just make sure to not let the supporting cast be one-dimensional : ^)

This isn't for developing characters. It's for creating a plot and story. I make characters differently then inject them into stories based on their histories.
