It came out a little later than expected, but my review of Chimera Squad is finally available for your viewing pleasure. Unfortunately, I haven't been quite as universally charmed as most of the rest of the internet has been with this one. It has a lot of great ideas! But it cuts away significant parts of the XCOM experience, and doesn't go far enough to embrace its own new ideas to replace what was lost.

Next on the list is to at long last get out a quarterly wrapup! It's, uh, May, but I've still got a lot of games from quarter one that I'm excited to explore. Expect that likely early next week!

XCOM: Chimera Squad Review | Fascinating Ideas Left Unexplored

Today's review is on XCOM Chimera Squad, which takes the series in a bold-ish new direction into cramped, same-y one-room encounters that significantly pare down XCOM's range. Luckily, Chimera Squad replaces what was lost with some new, fascinating ideas on how to get your plucky squad of police into trouble. Unluckily, the game spends half its time almost actively ignoring or downplaying those ideas, and the end result is a game that can be incredibly fun — but only when it wants to be.
