Happy 4th of July Weekend to my American friends! This weekend's video is somewhat fitting, as it deals with freedoms, but mostly just deals with a woman who threatened to call the cops if she couldn't get a coffee. Here's the description from YouTube:

It's the first Scumbags of the Internet episode in 3 years, as Doc Buckley looks at a woman in California who, like many Americans, aren't happy that they have to wear masks for 5 minutes while in a store. And apparently that means the only reasonable solution is to dox the kid behind the counter who wouldn't serve her.

Not that this helps her case much, but I think she actually was saying that what most people were told in U.S. and possibly Canadian schools about Christopher Columbus is fake history; he was not just a good man trying to find a passage to India to prove the world was round or whatever. Please note: I am not defending this woman; she is still scum, but I do think you happened to misunderstand her post regarding Syphilistopher Columbus. Anyway, always enjoy these Scumbags of the Internet, Buckley; thank you for helping me feel better about myself by showing me someone far worse!

I believe this was a terrible episode. First of all, the "Karen" meme is a lame ad hominem. Both the left and (less often) the right use the meme, so its meaning can be lost easily. The C word is also taking things too far. It's a shame due to the few valid points (doxxing and her WWII comments are wrong, the team member did well, don't punch your way into Walmart, etc.) your video makes. After looking at many health sources, I conclude that masks have little to no real-life impact against COVID-19. The curve is already flattened, and I almost always stay two metres away from other people. Many places have hard plastic guards that offer similar protection. This podcast is full of unfunny jokes, and comes across as putting masks on a pedestal.

You know why people always bring up World War 2 because the media won't SHUT THE FUCK UP about it. You'd think it happened yesterday not two generations ago (roughly). My mum's father was in one of the camps and we don't whine about it the way some of the current generation do today. "Oh such and such is a Nazi, this is fascism" and so on. Bitch please. I'm not an 'anti-vaxxer' by any means, nor do I think the average syringe is loaded with something that gives kids autism but how does anyone prove what is actually in these 'shots' anyway? I don't get sick generally so I'm not too concerned.

I mean, how do we prove what's in ANYTHING? We don't, we can't. This is the danger of the "free thinkers", who, with no training or knowledge, try and disprove actual experts though... look at the guy who died trying to fly a balloon into space or whatever so he could "see the curve for himself", because he can't trust actual scientists who tell us the Earth is in fact a sphere and not flat. I don't know what's in the vaccine for Hep C or tetanus or polio or measles, BUT I trust that the number of trials and everything it had to go through to become certified, it's going to do more good than potential harm. There are a lot of things I don't know, but I know there are experts who do know about them, who have devoted their lives to knowing about those things.

I'd like to think that, but... given all of the other things on that image (the "fake medicine" suggesting she's an anti-vaxxer, and the "fake weather" suggesting she's a climate change denier), it's easy to imagine what she's referring to is all of the people who want to "rewrite history" by destroying or removing statues. Although I joked "who's still defending Columbus these days", there are a lot of people very against changing Columbus Day, because they think it means "rewriting history" (when it just means not celebrating a person, I'm sure many countries with bad histories prefer not to celebrate them, Germany and Japan both tend to shy away from big displays centered around World War II despite it being a big part of their history, but it's still taught in school and written about in their books).

I think a business should have the right to deny services to anyone. So, this Starbucks is well within their rights to deny service to this lady. Even if she doesn't agree, her response was seriously inappropriate. One thought though (and again, this doesn't excuse her behavior or sense of entitlement), is whether or not it was posted that service required a mask. I would be irked if the mask requirement wasn't posted, and I didn't have one with me. Yeah, I haven't been carrying a mask with me everywhere, and when I see it is posted, I just leave and come back later with a mask if I need to come back. But if it wasn't posted, and they just decided to deny her service, I don't think that's cool.

I agree that everyone needs to be transparent, in this case (as I showed in the video) San Diego County has required masks at ALL businesses since I think April. So, effectively, no one should be leaving their house without having a mask with them.
