Post-work on Plastic Makes Perfect part 2 got postponed because I had to babysit my niece on Sunday, which it turns out is not super conducive to NSFW work...

Then yesterday night, wasted the whole evening trying to get Custom Maid part 2 renders started, but could not get my GPU to render (meaning it defaulted to CPU rendering, which is slow as f...), that ordeal made me realize all the slow renders I've ever done (full day renders) are likely because of the same issue (short story: if the video memory on the GPU is filled up by the scene, instead of just getting help from the CPU, it completely lets go of GPU and gives the job completely to the CPU, which makes no sense to me but whatever).  I had never taken notice before but when trying it all yesterday, when I started the renders, the GPU monitor kept saying 'GPU usage 0%'.

Sssoooooo... I was fed up with tinkering and refused to change the scene to another environment instead just to save on memory as I've done in the past (a whole bunch of environments I have I can't even use because they don't fit in memory before I even add characters) and because I've been wanting a second PC all that time AND because there's only 28 days this month... decided 'fuck it' and went and bought a 1080 today.

This, by the way, is your contributions at work, so thanks again for the support.  It means I can finally get back on track now.  Spent a portion of the evening installing it, then for testing, I re-rendered picture 1 on the new set (which took half a day) and it got done in an hour.  So success!

I'm gonna try something novel tonight and going to sleep early.  Tomorrow should finally be back to work full-steam ahead!

8GB is nice, but then again... Titan X has 12GB, which is probably as high as one can go in the consumer GPU filed and I'm just surprised, that with your fame and income Patreon generates, you did not go for one (or two of those). :)

Two reasons: They didn't have the Pascal TitanX where I went and I was planning on getting a new rig eventually with one or two of these... upgrading the current rig was not the original plan. But since I went ahead, I figured I could skip the TitanX on this rig and still get them for the new rig, as planned

Still have the 970 plugged in. It's what I've been working with for the last year. But memory is an issue lately

Just in case you are unaware (this is for if you live in the states) Since you make money on off your work that you do on your computer and since (with this job) you are self employed, you can easily write this off as a business expense and you can get back a portion (maybe all? idk tbh) of what you spent on taxes for this card when you get your tax return.
