Got some things to address this week, so let's jump right into it.

Leap of Faith is no longer a public (free) release
After 18 months of being a free release, I had to move the Leap of Faith release behind a paywall. This is a direct result of things outside my control, and it's something I had to do to continue using Patreon as a platform. Because of it, chapter 1-6 is now available for every patreon, starting at $1.

Future releases
Chapter 7 (and most likely the 8th and final one), it will be released for the $10 tier and upwards on release date, with the patch being available for the $5 tier the following week.

Steam release?
Chapter 7 will be available on Steam. I'm hoping it will ready for release date, but if not, at least close to it. It's going to be a tough one, due to all the preparations with testing, remastering some scenes, adding achievements, getting approved and so forth, but hopefully. Chapter 8 will be added to it as an free update when it's ready.

The Cece figurine
The Cece figurine competition will be held on Steam release day (whether it's on the actual release date or later). More details when we're getting closer to release. For those of you that are new patreons, this is the mentioned figurine.

Guest appearance
I'm happy to say there will be another guest appearance from another VN in chapter 7. I've had a nice talk with the developer of that game, where we came up with some great ideas for shenanigans. It's going to be a fun one.

Overall weekly progress
This has been one of those weeks where the amount of work done doesn't really transpire into numbers. There aren't a lot of hospital assets for Daz, and also, they don't really work that well together. I had to make my own version of them in order to progress scenes naturally from location to location. In addition to that, the mentioned scene contains 9 different versions, with all the cast of LoF - including the buildup to a new surprise ending. So there was a lot of posing and setup, and less rendering. Thankfully, it's all done now and I can move on to less demanding scenes. Render totals for now are at 187, and animations frames are still at 1,306.

That it for this week. Have a nice weekend, and stay safe out there.

Just a question pertaining to the future releases, does this mean that anyone not supporting you at 5$ or above will not get the next chapters?

Synge

Then 1$ tier like me would have to wait another week after 5$ tier ?

Roger S.

The way it is written currently 1$ Tier will not receive the next releases. which is a pity because it means that anyone with a German Steam account will not even get to buy it there.

DoobieDoobieDoo

So $1 supporters should either unsub or upgrade to $5? After that last chapter? But hey, you can buy this figurine of the character I killed off? Can you guess which way I'm leaning?

DriftyGames

Unfortunately, the $1 tier will not have access to the full completed 8 chapter long Leap of Faith. When it comes to the next and penultimate chapter, I have not yet taken a decision of if, or when, it will be available. There are some things I will have to clarify with Steam as well.

Thank you, Roger for raising that issue with Germany and Steam. Worst case scenario, you will be able to download it here at $5 tier. Best case scenario, it will be included in the $1 tier.

DriftyGames

Sorry for not catching on to what you mean. I'll try to answer to the best of my abilities. 1. The final full game will not be available for $1. The next and penultimate chapter might be, as a patch. I have to clarify some things with Steam first. 2. Nobody's killed off. Check out the latest sneak peak video on my youtube channel. 3. The figurine is not for sale. It's a prize for a competition which anybody that wants to, can enter.

Roger S.

Thank you for the heads up. Due to my correspondence with other creators whom I support I can tell you now that unless you get an USK certificate (costs several thousand €) steam will not display your VN in the shop in Germany. Maybe I am the only German LoF supporter, but the other creator had about 20% of his supporters not able to get it via steam. Great work by the way it is a really great story.

Well, no problem here, so far it would be worth it. But i have to say... iam a little bit sad to learn that there will only be 8 chapters in total. So overall it will be a rather short story, short but intensive i would say. But better a little bit short than filled with pontless crap just to milk it. There are so many AVNs out there with over 50% of pointless content, every line so far from Leap of faith is just worth it. Only 2 chapters left... :( Do you already know if youre going to start antoher project in maybe 1 year or so after LoF is done?

DriftyGames

I take that as a very good compliment, as any story you want more of is a good story. But LoF was never meant to be a long story, and as you mentioned, a story that drags on tend to tip in to soap opera where there's little to no progress every release. I'll be sad when I pack up the last chapter, but also excited to start on my next one which is already mapped out. It won't be LoF, but I think it will be a good one. :)

A shame you had no problem holding off on those plans for all those long months, but hey, money talks, right? Hope it will pay off, story you made is good, but this stunt should be beneath you... Either way, valuable lesson learned.

DriftyGames

I would love to give you a good answer, but I'm not sure what plans you are referring to. The game was free for 18 months, at which point I was forced to put it behind a paywall. I don't see how that classifies as 'money talks'.

Synge

Well, people that support you with just 1$ won't get the ending of your game ? Does it means devs don't need small supporters anymore ?

Anonymous

Plans for pulling off what you just did. You changed the rules right before the release. I would not support you, if I knew that the low tier was purely to milk people from money. The lowest tier should have been 5$. If you were honest about it from the get go, I would simply wait and buy it after release. Things being as they are, I will simply not touch anything with your name on it (which is a shame, your storywritting is really good). I simply do not appreciate being conned. Nor do I believe you were "forced" into doing anything, it was your decision. The "game" couldn't be free, since there is no game yet, only unfinished demo.

Anonymous

They do, at the beginning. Which is why all of that happened now, instead of 18 moths ago...

DriftyGames

I'm sorry that you feel conned, I really am. I have no problem at all discussing this in a constructive, civil manner and try to work out a solution that will be fair for long time supporters. Though, calling me a lier is not particularly constructive or civil. Public releases of adult games are not allowed on Patreon. I didn't know that, which forced the change when I was made aware of it. Honestly, being called a lier made me take a good 15 minute walk trying to calm down to keep myself from abiding from the constructive and civil mannered reply. :) I'd also add that "right before the release" is a bit off. It's "right after a release", not before the next one. I am working on this every single day, and hoping to put it out as soon as humanly possible. Still, thank you for you opinion, I appreciate it. I'll see if I can come up with a release plan that favors long time supporters. End note: what would you have charged a product that you've been working on for 537 days?

JamJams

It's unfortunate, but it's the way it is. I've seen devs having to do this recently also because of Steams anti competition rules.

Synge

Small streams make big river and patreon is a MONTHLY fee ...

You can charge whatever you want, for a finished product. Patreon and any other crowdfunding is not a way to sell a product, it's a way to support development of it. I'm generally against it in its current state, since it's used far and wide to con people from money on projects that were never meant to be finished. In your case I decided to trust you, you abused it (I explained above how). If it hurts you to call it what it is, fine, sorry that I made you take a walk.

DriftyGames

I'm not going to comment on it any further, but thank you for the input. I'm not opposed to listening to opinions and discuss things. Check out the latest post I published just now. If you still feel conned, feel free to dm me and I can refund you. No questions asked.

Anonymous

I understand. That will be my last comment on your patreon as well. It's not about money, but trust. I stopped supporting you the second I read about this (before all this discussion happened) and I'm fine as it is. Last proof I needed to stay away from crowdfunding. No reason to refund me, wouldn't be fair to make use of it, since it would not change my plans or opinion (and a lesson you gave me will save me a lot of money in the future). Though I admit, it's a nice PR move. On your next project try to be open from the beginning, will save you the bother of reading comments like mine.

Anonymous

It's even more than that. You're not supposed to distribute adult content for free on Patreon per their ToS. Hence why a number of devs have had to put it behind paywalls (same reason there are no lewd pics in public dev updates for exemple)

Anonymous

You cat take it as a compliment cause it is one :D A really good story hooks you up, you cant stop to go on, and if it ends its always a sad feeling no matter how the story ends, cause you dont want it to end no matter what :D But of course, a really good story need a fitting ending. I said fitting ending, cause not every story needs a happy ending in my book... i read and saw many good stories, and some of the most impressive storys out there didnt have a happy ending. But of course i hope this one will get one. And its good to hear that you already have an new prioject in your sleeve. Hope everything will work out just fine. Looking forward for the finale of LoF, and than to the new story.

JamJams

Oh yes I realize that hence why I said also, I was talking more about Steam rules stating that you can't sell your game cheaper elsewhere. I've had several projects I backed in these last few months this has happened to, and I just can't justify paying all the new prices so I've decided to stop backing them on Patreon more out of necessity than anything.
