DarkAshtar

In the game this is based off of, Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse which is actually a prequel to the first 2 games, actually featured 4 playable characters the 3 they have introduced and another named Grant who was a thief. Grant isn't in the show though. (Since you guys aren't familiar with the game I don't consider it a spoiler. Though if I remember correctly one of the earlier branching points leads you to find either Sypha if you take one path and Grant if you take the other.) Honestly the concept of lost knowledge during the middle ages isn't completely unfounded as later parts leading to the Renaissance was a time when there was a rediscovery of a lot of Greek philosophy and artwork.

Oh yeah one more easter egg, the device that Dracula used to teleport the castle is designed to look like the save points from Symphony of the Night, the other game that this show draws inspiration from, in which you actually play as Alucard. The upcoming spin-off of this show is actually set to take place during the Rondo of Blood videogame which is actually the one before Symphony of Blood, in fact the opening stage of Symphony of the Night is the boss fight from Rondo of Blood. This series ends with the most recent season, but as the Castlevania games tend to follow the Belmont family through the ages they can make several different series with various casts of characters. Alucard makes appearances in various games including some that take place in the near future. If you want to check out a few Castlevania games Symphony of the Night is a classic that has been ported over to most modern consoles and they either just released or are about to release the Castlevania Advance collection which features the 3 games from the Gameboy Advance plus Dracula X, which is the American released version of Rondo of Blood, but it's not really the same game. (Rondo of Blood didn't get a real American release until they ported Symphony of the Night to the PSP, it was an extra feature. Considering Rondo of Blood was 16 bit game, SNES era, it gives you an example of how long it was before it got an official US release.
