Today's episode is all about The Last of Us Part II. This will be a spoiler discussion so if you're interested in savoring the story of Naughty Dogs latest narrative adventure, might be best to skip this one until you have. If not, welcome. We've got some interesting opinions. We're in the middle of moving this week and due to time constraints the questions from this episode have all been pushed to next weeks episode. Apologies, but the schedule should be back to normal in a week or so once we're all settled in.

Already finished this Chris? Just heard ya on Sacred Symbols saying you were about 12 hours in? Anyways sadly have to put this on the backburner cause I'm still playing it but really loving it so far.

As soon as i saw this game and what was happening, it was immediate flashbacks to The last jedi, the plot line choices and backstage politics are near identical. And since they put characters who are women, lesbians etc in the game they get to pull the same shit that last jedi and ghostbusters pulled, which is people only hate it cause " RaaCIStts and SSSEXisSTss hermagherd ." 99% of the criticism is related to the story and characters being objectively shit, but cause you can screenshot one tweet that sais fuck dykes, well now you have a free pass to make shit art and terrible storys....fuck off

Fuck it I'll listen by the time I play the game the 3rd one will be coming out

the section where sweeny cuts out and chris and derrick talk to no one is fucking hilarious

The ending is like if Batman cracked and killed Riddler, Twoface, Penguin, Bane, the entire rogues gallery, but when he finally got to joker in the end he goes “no I need to be better”

Although I disagree on some things (but agree with others, like the pacing and placing of certain timelines) it’s great to hear people genuine people being critical and not just random people hating on the game and saying it’s absolutely terrible when they have never even played it. I believe you could have an impression but not necessarily a genuine opinion unless you experience something. Nice to hear genuine criticism

The palpable sadness in Derrick's voice when he speaks about BioWare is almost cathartic.

Just wait until you get to the sex scene with Abby, Chris. It's about as bad as you could imagine it.

Do you think that Abby just killed all the Joel in the damn nation? She cripples him before asking him his surname.

Madshibs

I agree with someone your criticisms and disagree with the rest. One criticism that had me yelling at my Bluetooth speaker was when Chris said that Abby got away with her revenge. I’d argue that she absolutely did not. Her friends were all killed, she lost the security she had within the WLF. She actually lost EVERYTHING except for Lev.

The characters and everything aren't objectively bad. Nothing is objectively bad. You're allowed to dislike a game if you didn't personally connect with the characters. But I did. Connected with quite a few of them. The vibe I am getting is people said they hated the game before they played it. It came out. Turned out to be good and now nobody wants to admit they might have been wrong. You're allowed to dislike it if you played it but the majority of these takes ive seen are from people who haven't even played it. You might be a different case but nonetheless.

I mean you mentioning all that is totally subjective and not objective at all either. That's great if you enjoyed it, nearly everyone I've seen or talked to said it's a meh at best or terrible story they didn't give a shit about, which was most. You're entitled to w.e opinion you want too but saying you think it's great and everyone's just commited to pre hating it is also a terrible generalization point that doesn't address anything I or anyone else is saying or dislikes about it

And it doesn't address the legitimate point of how all these corporations get to use gender and race as a defense for making bad stories ...anyway don't wanna turn their Patreon into a YouTube comments section fight lol but if ur gonna make some baseless claims

I would have found this conversation a little more interesting if at least one of the guys didn’t read the spoilers before playing the game. Feels like so much of the conversation around the story was informed by the fact they new every plot twist coming in. The effectiveness of story telling is tarnished when you know every thing that’s going to happen. This is the same thing that happens when a movie is adapted from a book, the people that read the book are almost always dissatisfied with the execution in film. You’re perspective is formed by the medium in which you first experienced the story.

The brilliance of the story was that the expectation of revenge was subverted with the theme of forgiveness. The story was mismanaged, but it had a great deal of focus and I think Naughty Dog achieved their goal.

I would disagree somewhat i have read books after seeing the movie and liked the book better. I also have done the opposite and thought a movie adaptation was better then the book.
