Bleach isn't exactly consistent when it comes to time scales and aging in the Soul Society, it's best not to worry too much about tracking it and roll with it when it's used for characterizations.

The place where Normal souls go to is called Rukongai and is extremely huge. And the Soul reapers live at the center, with the Rukon districts spread outwards in all 4 directions.

Gin has the smallest and longest zanpakto. Also in the manga Shinso's command is "Shoot'em dead". And Shinso means "obsidian spear; spear of destiny" which is a reference to the spear that stabbed Jesus.

^ That's a spoiler sir. Gin's Zanpakuto doesn't get explained for a couple of arcs. Second, Shinso translates to "God Spear" and in the ViZ translation "Sacred Spear" the actual translation is "Shoot to Kill, Sacred Spear"
