This episode of Mando felt like it would make a good gateway drug to Andor. Also, three episodes in and this season has given me two of my favorite dog-fighting sequences in all of Star Wars.

Marketa and Rana made very good points in the discussion. I liked Marketa's point that yeah the new republic probably outlawed a lot of imperial research once they took over despite the possibility that some research might be beneficial. But a lot of the research was horrible. I also agree with her point that it might not be a permanent ban on that stuff, just that the government doesn't have time to deal with it right now, they're just trying to hold things together. And I think Rana's right about disposing of all that imperial tech. I agree, don't throw it all out. The New Republic could use that stuff. Make sure there's no traps or stuff, but really why dispose of all those Star Destroyers? Star Destroyers are crazy expensive to build, and the New Republic just throws them out? We know from other Mandalorian episodes that the New Republic is barely maintaining order. You know who really could have used a fleet of star destroyers? General Leia in the JJ Abrams star wars trilogy. Just slap the new republic paint job on those bad boys.

I agree with the fact that former imperial officer Elia Kane is a double agent and her allegiance is still to the empire. She was after all the handler of the informant who found Grogu's location in season 2. More over, she introduced herself as a former communication officer. The word "communication" was often used as an euphemism for counterintelligence. Which means Elia is a spy on a covert operation whose mission is to infiltrate the New Republic's Amnesty Program because it's where she could find Doctor Pershing. I think, before the boarding of his ship occured (in season 2), Moff Gideon must have given Elia some instructions (in case of capture) on how to deal with Doctor Pershing, which would be to find him and dispose of him, because he was the key witness that can incrimante him. Moff Gideon's trial is imminent and the prosecutor can call Doctor Pershing to testify on what he knows about the atrocities commited by Moff Gideon. But now that Elia fried Doctor Pershing's mind, he might not even be able to remember his name. Which means Moff Gideon might get a slap on the wrist and be released for lack of evidence. Even better, now Moff Gideon can blame everything on Doctor Pershing and paint him as a mad scientist who would not stop his eugenics experiments. And the trap set by Elia proved how Doctor Pershing needed very little encouragement to slip back into his old ways. Finally, the TIE Fighters must have been positioned in the Mandalorian system following Moff Gideon's orders, to monitor the coming and going on the planet. He knew since he lost the Darksaber, that at some point, either Bo-Katan or Din Djarin would try to get back on the planet to claim Mandalore's throne. And those two are the fastest way to find Grogu and get him back as an experimental subject, and continue with the cloning research. Last but not least, i think the imperial officer was named Elia as a nod to Pedro Pascal who played Elia Martell's brother (Oberyn) who was killed by the Mountain in Game of thrones.

Fun fact: Katy O'Brian aka Elia Kane is an IU alumni and former IUPD and Carmel PD officer before moving to LA to act!
