I think media has done the big three: werewolves, vampires, and reanimated body so much that theres limited room to make something unique and entertaining so we've seen more leaning into the 'unknown' as far as televised media is concerned. It's interesting because I think it's the only form of media to actively shy away due to social acceptability because books and games thrive off this

Supernatural has all these except sparkly Vamps and Aliens. It's the Stargate of horror TV shows. Edit: There was that one time the brothers killed a sparkly vampire but it was because said vampire was wearing glitter.
