will the reaction drop today or on YouTube next week?

PR98

That's a good question, I would like to know the answer to that as well.

Martin

I would think next week. They just dropped last week’s episode yesterday

Martin

Ernest Moran

Martin

It’s wired . Try to sign in. That happened to me before

Ernest Moran

I am signed in and it says my patreon is connected to it but i'm still getting the "Unlock with patreon" prompt

sonicburst3

The same happens on another Patreon's website. Once you click "Unlock with Patreon" then the screen goes to a "Allow or Deny" access screen.

Martin

It should have a refresh button. Click that, then allow

Quick question, why do y’all hate Kate??

Chaos T

I'm glad Chris brought up the issue about Mary Sue characters because I feel there's a lot of misunderstanding about the trope. Kate is definitely not a Mary Sue if you go by the classical idea of what a Mary Sue is. The Vox article I'm linking below goes into great detail on what a Mary Sue is including it's creation from Star Trek fan fiction which satirizing fan fiction tropes. https://www.vox.com/2015/12/28/10672628/star-wars-force-awakens-rey-mary-sue

The thing is that that is where the trope started years ago and has grown and expanded in definition over time.

sonicburst3

Lmao at Spidey ready to flip a table.

sonicburst3

What are the chances that Swordsman killed Maya's father instead of Ronin?

Chaos T

I don't believe the definition changed much through the years because it's a standard entertainment trope that legitimate writers try to avoid. What changed is people started using the term more without really knowing what a Mary Sue is and it became a catch phrase term on the interwebs. Like Chris said in their reaction, maybe he doesn't really know what a Mary Sue is.

Hey ya'll, Dexter will be put on hold unfortunately because the schedule was too big to squeeze it in. We will be reacting to the finale however!

thenormies

Sorry for the frustrations! We're working to improve the website experience!

ChaosThierry That just seems like a weak way of moving the goalposts. Words can change meaning or be used in multiple ways overtime when done commonly enough. Take the word "stan" for example - it has both a very negative and very positive connotation. The latter of which is more recent and sees widespread use when talking about admiration of a fictional character or famous person. But ultimately, arguing for what Mary Sue truly means would be avoiding the overall idea that the term is entirely a negative one that connotes bad writing. The article you linked is quite laughable, since it takes a specific definition of Mary Sue which wouldn't be applicable to Rey, but ironically ends up making weak arguments in support of that. Looking at Rey without using any Mary Sue term, its still easy to say the character is poorly written.

Chaos T

I'm not sure what you're getting at with "weak way of moving the goal posts". That article gives you the definition of what Mary Sue is and is still considered the definition today; someone who is both perfect in their upbringing and perfect in their actions without reason. That's how I've always understood it to be since being made aware of the trope decades ago. Using any "updated" definition outside of the perimeters writers try to avoid would be goal post moving because anyone can attribute any poorly written thing to "Oh he/she is a Mary Sue"; IE your point about Rey. It dumbs down the term and leads to confusion as we saw with Chris in the reaction. If something is a writing trope, it's definition or meaning wouldn't change much over time like slang terminology would. Mary Sue characters are self insert, fan fiction type characters so it's always been considered bad writing and never been "avoided".

That's what I'm guessing. In the comics, there are multiple fractions of the Tracksuit Mafia. So Clint saying Ronin took out some of the leadership doesn't mean he was the one in the Ronin suit we saw killing Maya's father.
