Lol I understand that the ending may seem cringy and uncomfortable to you guys. It was meant to be that way. To some, this was such a difficult episode to watch, but in the best way possible. It was a necessary evil, showing Subaru in a very unflattering light. Subaru definitely brought this upon himself. It was great to do this now, as opposed to before. The mansion arc was very intimate, with only a handful of characters. Subaru was a boss there, but when he goes out to the country, he's a fish out of water. Completely out of his element. A few quick points: Felt and Reinhard are a great duo. He puts up with her shit in such a knightly way. Julius was actually trying to be a bro to Subaru, giving him a chance to stand down instead of embarrassing himself further. It also goes to show how everyone treats Subaru as nothing special. In the typical Isekai. The main character is usually treated as a 'Chosen One', treated with reverence and respect. But in this series, it's the exact opposite. And be aware that Subaru is familiar with the Isekai trope, which is one of the reasons why he acts in certain ways, especially in the very beginning, thinking that he was summoned into a game like fantasy (typical Isekai) in which the world was designed to work in his favor. Yet instead he is hit hard with a cold slap of 'reality' though in another world. Subaru is a well written character because he represents many of our flaws and I sometimes see myself in Subaru, back when I was around his age. And to cap it all off, I love how White Fox puts the episode title at the end. After slogging through the cringe you get a totally satisfying end card: "Self-Proclaimed Knight Natsuki Subaru". Perfect way to end it while bringing Subaru down a peg.

That's a good summary. I remember how I viewed Re:Zero the first time I watched it. Back then only Season 1 was out and the anime didn't really grasp me at first. Lots of the scenes at the start seemed cringy. Others made me question why certain characters would act like they do. But it all comes together and makes sense, if you keep watching it. I re-watched season 1 recently before going into season 2, and it kinda hit me. Since then it's my favorite show of all time, and I've seen plenty, LOL. The story-telling gets so good, that I can't really enjoy most other anime anymore. Especially season 2 ruined me for other shows.

It is hard to wait for the reactions cause you know they gonna be thrown for a loop with the stuff that goes down. I wonder how they will react.

This was made to be cringe guys. He is a teenager and he just got humiliated in front of everyone. He tried sticking up for Emilia but he didn't do it properly and stick to respecting what Emilia wants. These are the cringe and darkest moments for subaru in terms of season 1 happening with these episodes. Obviously you guys already know at least part of what goes down since you at least have another couple of episodes stocked up.

Cringiest episode in anime, but needed for the journey

You’re kinda supposed to hate/ be annoyed at Subaru at this point of the show. Also, next episode is when you get a glimpse at what Rezero is really like, everything up to now was kind of a prologue.

On Nahid's comment, I think in a typical isekai, the main protagonist would be able to wow the nobles with a speech. I like the way Re:zero goes about it

honestly this was one of the main turning points for me when I first watched this show. Yea it was cringe and awkward af after it but it also showed how different it was for an isekai. for once the mc didn't have everything go his way and actually shows his uglier side. It brings alot of humanity into subaru as a character and made me much more interested in seeing his progress.
