JMM what a gem of an episode, but pretty much this whole Better Call Saul season is gold. "Lightningbolts come out of my fingetips!" Definitely a Palpatine reference like Mickey said. I think that is how Kimmy sees himself, and to be fair considering scope of his schemes, I can see why he thinks of himself in such a way. That scene was the perfect storm. Howard showed up at what was probably Jimmy's lowest moment, morally speaking. And here comes along Howard, a walking talking reminder of a life he has shedded. A life that he has now moved on from and looks down upon. Howard's offer had offended him in his new persona. And now comes Howard playing the "holier than thou" card. The walk away pissed Jimmy off even more because of that exact reason. I do like Howard, but I do think he oversteps very often. He pushes things, like the "I'm sorry you're in pain" comment. He thinks he's doing really good things and expects to be praised for them, and I think that is the flaw with Howard and how he usually approaches Jimmy. He could've taken back the job offer and truly been the better man and left it at that, but he also always wants to make a point. Have the higher ground in some way. Morally he's not really a bad person just a bit self absorbed, which clashes with Jimmy who is not such a good person and is narcissistic. Sorry for the long post but that final scene I really thought about for so many days after it aired. So gooooood.
