My god, my ears are now currently bleeding. I little warning would be fantastic in the future.

I hope the season 5 finale is a double drop

Jonathan Karlsson

Please, PLEASE we need the double next week :D

Robert

I wonder if social distancing would prevent that because of the virus. They may just single drop what they have in hopes that the pandemic dies down. Obviously I hope not but it’s a possibility.

Tejan J Salaam

Kane’s an idiot for this like fr. He’s willing to join McCreary, who is a murdering psychopath for literally no reason, and all the prisoners, who he’s previously called “undesirables”, tell the entire battle plan and get the entirety of Wonkru killed off the basis that Octavia, who killed people on the bunker for a reason, is the devil? Let’s call it like it is, Diyoza said it best - if Octavia wins she would kill them both and Kane doesn’t want to die. That’s reasonable but don’t try to hide it behind some moralistic BS. I’m sorry but that’s the dumbest thing he’s ever done on this show

Anonymous

Yeah, Kane's moral grandstanding is pretty pathetic this season.

Anonymous

here's the thing you can blame Abby all you want but Kane is still a fucking moron. Once again just moral grandstanding to make himself feel better. When it was pointed out to him by Abby that he had to all he said was there is always a choice. Well, what is it, my guy? Every time Octavia at the time asked for another solution all anyone seemed to do was look at her like I don't know.

Blake

lol chris was savage in this reaction when they were talking about who they would eat.

Tejan J Salaam

Yeah and if we're being honest here Chris is right, there was still a choice - "You eat or you die" - Octavia just sped up the timeline so that those that were going to eat actually lived off those that weren't. Again, it's fantastic to say morally it's wrong, but that's supremely obvious, and if it isn't then you are Vinson. The point is that if they didn't eat them then everyone in the bunker would be dead. Starvation is slow, but it's not a year long slow. And the idea that maybe they would still have lived if they didn't is not feasible, people would get lethargic so no work being done to repair the farm that was so needed and then they would have died because there were still three more years down there AFTER the dark year. That was the whole point in them saying they've only been down there for 2, so they couldn't have attempted to wait it out or delay as was suggested.

OH MY GOD I CAN FINALLY TALK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the single most difficult to watch episode of the entire! This episode man, this episode. We finally see everything come to a head. We finally get to see why Octavia is the way she is and that her actions are frankly very understandable this season. Up until the Dark Year, she had a council and things were going incredibly well, then the farm dies and she is faced with the very real situation of having to resort to cannibalism to get protein so they can survive. This also points out that, while Octavia is responsible for what happened, she is not solely responsible. The blame falls on Abby, Indra, Niylah, and it also falls on Kane. His actions in publicly refusing to eat pushed Octavia into a corner where she absolutely had to ensure that everyone ate. There are other ways to rebel here than just openly saying that people don't have to do this. This event is the moment that Kane began to see Octavia as the Devil (she is the devil he was referring to), and his own guilt in getting those people killed is driving of his animosity toward Octavia. Kane is doing what he has always done, running from own guilt and shame. He refuses to recognize the part that he played in what happened, and instead has chosen to see himself as the best of the best and most moral person there when that couldn't be further from the truth. More on Kane next week though. Now comes Abby. Oh boy Abby, you've got a mess on your hands now. It's pretty clear that The Dark Year was what pushed her over the edge into addiction, but she wasn't just trying to save the person she loves. I think a small part of her still resented Kane for taking her decision away, to be left out of the bunker back in season 4. Now the shoe is on the other foot, and she is denying Kane's wish to die by taking away his choice. It is really awful what she does to Octavia here, and it made me hate Abby even more. Poor poor Octavia. Just wow. To be manipulated so much by Abby and forced into this situation by circumstance is just horrifying. We literally watch her become the current version of Blodreina in this scene. She has no desire to pull trigger, and has it happens she is quite literally breaking down and retreating into the nice protective shell that Blodreina provides. Hopefully that helps to shine some light on why she cannot live in that bunker anymore and why she burned the farm. And to top it all off, _all her advisers left her to fend for herself because they couldn't deal with what they were forced to do_. And then there's Clarke and Madi. Clarke here is very analogous to Octavia in the Dark Year. She has been forced to make drastic decisions to keep Madi safe, and the exchange on the couch (Madi: "Clarke, I love you, but we are on the wrong side of this war." Clarke: Maybe...but at least you get to live".) is so indicative of her mind state right now. She hates what she is doing, but she has resigned herself to doing to protect Madi. Also, did you catch the little hint that portions Clarke may very well be in the Flame? Clarke never once uttered the words "I bear it so they don't have to" to anyone who has held the Flame. And now I can finally talk about Vinson. Vinson is the personification of the Dark Year. He is also the personification of Abby's addiction and the scene from last week with him eating the guy that was keeping her pills from her cannot possibly be anymore obvious in what they are trying to say. More on that next week though. Guys, Damocles isn't a sword, it's the character in the story called the Sword of Damocles. Basically, there is Roman myth that a guy named Damocles got a reward from Cesar and instead of being happy about he complained about how easy Cesar so Cesar put him in charge for a day. But he also hung a sword directly above the throne by a thin thread. After the day was up Damocles no longer wanted be in power. To Chris' point, it is also much more merciful to kill them now if they refuse to eat, they are gonna die anyway, better they die now and save everyone the horror of watching them starve to death. Additionally, should you allow the abstainers to continue, you risk further conflict which could kill even more people and eventually end the all hope of survival. Also, they chose to go with a processed look to get full effect. This is a BEAUTIFULLY shot episode and that scene is gorgeous.

Double drop the next 2 episodes please!!

where is the uncut for this one?

I'm going to expand because the sword of Damocles is a super cool fable, one of my favorites. It isn't related to Caesar but a king called Dionysius. Marketa was on the right track, "the sword of Damocles" is a common expression for an imminent and looming threat. Dionysius hung the sword over the throne by a single horse hair so Damocles would understand what it was like to be in power, all the riches and power imaginable, but a constant terror of a looming threat/foe. Those old fables are so cool 👍

I cannot WAIT for the finale reaction, hoping it's next week! 😍 (PS if it's not nbd, we know you guys are busy)

JJ

The character of wick was basically just dropped because the actor playing him was discovered to be a racist prick on social media so they just let him go. Was pretty easy to do between season 2 and 3. They did refer to it in episode 1 of season 3. Abby tells raven that she basically “ran wick off” because she couldn’t accept help from ppl.

Joanaver

Are you guys planning on releasing both parts next week for the finale or one at a time.???

Jmaine

What I've always liked about the 100 is that it's moral quandries, it's survival at what cost questions are actually very compelling. Because seeing how the couch was debating the cannibalism in this episode just goes to show how rich the argument is. And I think it's important to keep in mind that Abbey was just doing her job, a problem arose, and she was like "aight we've been here before and here are our viable solutions", and when Kane disrupted the plan sure Abby wanted to save him but what she said was also correct in that if they left Kane to form his band of dissenters they'd have ended up dooming everyone else who had made the moral sacrifice to resort to cannibalism to survive. All for the sake of moral high ground grandstanding. So in the end everyone would have still died but Kane and his group would have gotten to die with a clean conscience and Abby and Octavia rightly were like "Nah fuck that, if you wanna die so be it but it's gonna be in a way that at least benefits the group". Again morally reprehensible stuff but necessary given the situation

@wolverine101 I loved everything you said in your comment! when i first watched this season i HATED octavia but the more i re watched it and actually paid attention to details I felt so bad for her up until S6 when she doesn't know how to apologize and just say she was wrong for burning the farm but she is so damn stubborn she rather just die a warriors death then say she fucked up and was a bad leader AFTER they came out of the bunker and could live a different way again but she refused and craved that power so much after 6 years of being worshiped and relied on (its understandable.) my only thing i would add into it is everyone hates Abby which i did too at this point, but also Abby is a Dr, The best Dr they have and she has seen this in the past on the ark and that's why they started floating their own people. so if Abby didn't come up with this solution they would have died. everyone always puts so much blame on Abby (myself included) but what was the other option? everyone always gets mad at Kane saying Kane didn't give Octavia another option, but what about Abby? Abby GAVE them a solution and it was up to Octavia to either go along with that plan or not. she could have easily told Abby to fuck off and leave the meeting. or better yet kill her herself but she didn't, she needed help and guidance and that was literally the only option they had at the time.(not saying it was a good option) but what else? every time someone says they could of done something else i always ask what!? i would loveeee to know cause i don't see how they could survive a entire year not eating or just drinking water? Abby SAVED them from death.. yes Octavia was the enforcer because she was the leader and they only listened to her so she HAD to be the one to put a gun to their heads. you think if abby or kane or even indra did that they would listen? They would be like we don't listen to anyone but Blodreina!! soooo instead of dealing with all of that nonsense that would of got them nowhere octavia sadly had to be the one to do it. they NEVER FORCED HER HAND that is one thing i always like to point out to people.. BUT it was the hand she was forced to take to keep all her people ALIVE! aka like clarke ALWAYS does.

Wolverine101

To be clear, I don't blame Abby for what she did in the bunker. I blame her for who she became because of it. I also blame her for her motivations in pushing O into enforcing the cannibalism, it wasn't all just about saving Kane's life. If anything, Kane is the most at fault for what Octavia was forced to do. That

Nathom T

no offence but been kinda annoyed with Nahid's takes, just feels like he not trying to listen or understand people's reasoning or maybe he just hates Octavia too much to listen to reason. Octavia literally had to do what she did in order to save the highest amount of people she could n she carried that burden no one else apart from abby n maybe kane n indra knows that the idea wasn't even hers but she was the one enforcing it. She United a group of different clans into one something never done before in grounder history. Like Chris mentioned killed those who didn't want to eat was the correct choice as it showed everyone else what the consequences were, yes it's fucked up morally but like Jaha mentioned being a leader is about making hard choices n Octavia's mother threatened the lives of everyone else much like Kane's group of followers. Also, speaking of not fighting n living in peace n shit like monty, bellamy seem to suggest, I agreee with Octavia they needed to fight as the other side has better weapons n would not just let them live in peace Mcgready himself mentioned killing all the grounders when gaining control of their camp. Peace was never an option especially since Diyoza's people were the first to fire their weapon at Octavia. If they hadn't done that maybe there would've been peace, they also can launch missiles at them so the threat of dying is always there, if they surrendered they wouldn't be treated on equal terms so the only option was to fight back. As for kane he also a bitch for the betrayal, him n clarke.

Pat in the next video makes an excellent point about cannibalism. It can literally make you go insane. There's a disease associated with cannibalism called kuru (I think it's called that) and it's similar to mad cow disease. Given all the circumstances in the dark year and people potentially going crazy from a disease, it explains a lot of actions Octavia and others take this season. This episode puts a lot of things in context for me.
