Great reaction as always guys! Machi did not see the fight between gon and hisoka, she was only present during his fight with Kastro and then left after mending hisoka's wounds.

For the mafia it was purely a pride thing. They didn’t want to back down from the Phantom Troupe because they thought it showed weakness. That is why they were so insistent to keep the event going without any deviations. They wanted to project strength despite how many losses they took and how increasingly obvious it became that they were in over their heads.

It always confused me how the troupe just accepted hisoka's fake "the eleven legged spider grows homesick losing five more" verse even though it contradicts the rest of the predictions.

It didn't contract. Chrollo originally assumed that they could avoid the deaths by leaving. Hisoka fortune is just new information which challenged his assumption.
