The protomolecule isn't man made, it's extra solar or extra terrestrial. I believe they said earlier that they found it on a asteroid that had been on course for earth, but got caught in the gravity of another planet or the belt.

Yeah, it's a fairly important fact but it's only mentioned once or twice iirc. My assumption was that an extra terrestrial launched it at Earth, but it accidentally got caught up in the gravity well of one of the planets and never accomplished its true goal.

It came from another solar system 2 billion years ago. It was meant for Earth but was caught in Saturn's gravity and never reached it's destination. Pheobe orbits Saturn. There's more info on it's original mission but that's major spoiler stuff you'll learn next season.

Sadly, it looks like Miller's final sacrifice may have backfired. He had "Julie" redirect Eros into Venus (a lifeless rock) in order to save the Earth. However, it seems he only succeeded in inadvertently feeding the Protomolecule an entire planet, and now it has established a significant beachhead just one planet sunward from Earth. Considering what it did with Eros (another lifeless rock), I shudder at the possibilities of what it can do with Venus in Season 3.

Without spoiling...I am willing to bet your guess is nothing like what actually ends up happening. It's SO bizarre.

I get you guys' confusion/mild disappointment over the finale - it ends right in the middle of the actual Caliban's War book, and the real end of that story will likely happen about 3-4 episodes into Season 3. Book readers are predicting that the remainder of the season will get us halfway/all-the-way through Abaddon's Gate. So, for those of you who haven't read ahead...what do YOU think the PM is making on Venus?

By the way, I'm not sure if you have checked out any of the behind-the-scenes stuff put out by either the show, or by Adam Savage from MythBusters, but you should. Also, did you know that the actors for both Holden and Amos were fans of the books before they auditioned?
