Last month was so amazing, you guys! We created a huge summer playlist that I'm still discovering new music from.

So here we go with the fourth theme!

In honor of my book coming out July 20th (drumroll, please):

July's Audiography Redux theme is: The Past is Red

Post up to three songs in the comments that fit the theme. This is a really open ended one - interpret it as you will.

No judgment or rules, any genre, any era, just make sure that if it's not available on Spotify you tell us where to find it. The original Audiography was 100% a piracy community, I confess, and we're not doing that here, doing our best to make sure artists get something for their work.

At the end of the month, I'll organize all the songs into a Spotify playlist (just the best way I can think of to do it, if you have other ideas, let me know) and post it here for all to enjoy!

Feel free to discuss songs as well, in the comments or on the Discord (that link is a permanent invite), conversing about our love of music and ideas is part of the point!

Take it away!

For a song that’s “red” and has lyrics vaguely evocative of the nature v manmade garbage struggle: Red Tide by Neko Case. https://open.spotify.com/track/6lXTDKygGsaPoJsVFx1QkQ?si=3AGZSZhCQBSh1xezVmlP1g&dl_branch=1

"Red" by Belly Look, sometimes it's ok to go with the obvious. This was one of the first concerts I went to and I will never forget the band screaming 'red!red!red!' on stage. I was a quiet nerd and did not know how to cope with being frightened and titillated at the same time. "Little Red Rooster" by Sam Cooke There is no playlist that can't be improved by adding Mr. Cooke. If it sounds a little simple, just move your hips a little bit while you listen. Next thing you know you've listened to every song on "Portrait of a Legend". I refuse to give the subtext of this song any thought - I'm too busy swaying around the kitchen. "Forbidden Fruit" by Nina Simone 'Go ahead and taste it, you don't want to waste it' go ahead and bite that shiny red apple. Nina forever. <3
