A.S.O
Too much volcano…

Don’t lie, you’ve had it stuck in your head just as I have.
- We’ve genuinely created a monster.

Well folks, the second episode of Journey Across Japan: The Lost Islands is up and in this week’s episode we wandered Mars (a.k. the volcano wasteland), slept in an igloo, stayed at Kyushu’s most stunning hot spring and produced an entire music video, complete with a Grammy award winning hit track.

To be fair, I’m utterly amazed at how our rap music video turned out, given the short time we had to shoot and produce the song and the video. It was a solid effort from everyone on the team, particularly Joey who had the daunting task of conjuring up a rap.

(By popular demand, we’re currently on the process of putting it on iTunes and Spotify god forbid).

Before watching the Patreon behind the scenes episode, in case you missed the crazy episode itself, be sure to watch it here!

For this week’s Patreon behind the scenes episode - and amidst the many outtakes - I discuss how we were able to produce the song/music video in such a short space of time, in what must be one of my new favourite Journey Across Japan challenges of all time.

I hope you enjoyed the episode and are looking froward to the next one this weekend! I’m not looking forward to reliving the awkward horse riding, or the horrific creatures we discovered in that godforsaken cave…eurgh.

For now guys, I hope you enjoy the video and a special thanks to the hilarious Jack Sadler for editing our beat boxing into another hilarious remix (https://youtu.be/XYB2ogltiEc), as seen in this week’s Patreon BTS episode.

Does anyone know what A S O stand for?

Anonymous

Chris I must ask, how in the world did you approve the salami line? Also, when can we expect the Nippon Boys JAJ Debut Album?

Anonymous

The first and second episodes are fantastic.👌The quality of JAJ just keeps getting better and better. Can’t wait to have that epic rap song in my workout Spotify playlist... if that can’t motivate me, nothing will 😂

Peter Varga

a legit summer hit! also thanks for the BtS video :)

Anonymous

Too much volcano on Spotify? Yes, please! 🙌🏼

WT

I hereby nominate all Patreon JAJ content be dubbed ‘extra salami’ from this point forward. And the extended cut of the song be titled that as well. I love the origin, hey Joey what rhymes with black tatami ... extra salami. Not quite as good as shabbing tho. 🤣. I do love it.

Shabbing

rafa UGM

Great production quality. the music and rapping reminds me of The Sugarhill Gang or Will Smith.

Laura Beaumont

That was probably one of my favorite videos for far. The rap was just so good! It’s just as good as the Dr Jelly commercials! 😂 And, yes, I’ve had it in my head for days. I’m waiting for the Best of JAJ Songs album to drop. 😎 It was also nice to see you guys just make Natsuki’s day with his private cave bath. He looked so happy!

DinoKōyō

I have Too much volcano on repeat; it's very catchy I must admit haha

abroadinjapan

Haha, Natsuki shouting out "extra salami" is the highlight of the entire Abroad in Japan channel

Laura Beaumont

Good job on the Natsuki rave, Jack. 😂

I was dancing in my living room to this song. I looked like a mad woman 😂😂

Amazing, yes please!

Too much volcano is so stuck in my head! I've been singing it for two days now, I hope I can recover from it soon! (loved it so much)

Gus Elizondo

Great song, but the "No Volcano" confuses the hell out of me... is it saying "No" to the volcano or is it a juxtaposition of "Too much Volca, No Volcano" as in saying that there is soo much volcano there are in fact no volcanoes at all?....probably more of a case of bad japanese english????

Nynke de Haas

Probably more of what? Anyway, I was also really confused by the 'no volcano'!

Nynke de Haas

Such a catchy tune! Very enjoyable. Keep us posted on the Spotify appearance :)

The infamous "I have a bad case of diarrhea" has made its return 🤣🤣🤣 Also, "Too Much Volcano" was stuck in my head all day yesterday and I couldn't concentrate at my work.. HAHA!

Excellent episode and rap song well done team abroad in Japan 🇯🇵 you light my day working hard in the nhs England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

TBH when you started beat boxing Chris, I was pretty damn surprised. Did not expect you to know how to do that.

Hi Chris, really enjoying these. Do you have any control over adding closed captions to your videos, or is that all managed/decided by Youtube?

Anonymous

Would've loved a full version of the beat box rap song as well. Got me to headbang. But nothing beats A S O, so much volcano! What a bop.

Anonymous

Chris, this is one of your best creations yet! Well done, sir!

Anonymous

Brilliant video, and BtS! Anything that includes a 'your mum' joke, produces two absolute bangers and causes an existential crisis over a volcano that may or may not be too much and nothing at all is pure gold. Thank you!

Laughed my ass off at the edit of Christian Bale ranting to Joey's lyrical mishaps in the BTS video. Can't wait for the next 3 parts, keep up the great work! P.S. Will there be any more volcanoes though?

Anonymous

Not nearly enough Volcano, I've been singing it at work ever since. I can't wait for this week's episode hopefully it ends with "off to nether, netherlands". Just saying Chris instead of one song you could release a whole album, we get more amazing songs Natsuki becomes a rockstar and everyone is happy.

Thomas

I'd love to see you 3 make another music video

Anonymous

Love the short rap “walk this way” by natsuki. Would download it in a beat if there was!🥃

Funny, great, catchy tune. I will definitely stream it from Spotify when available! And now the song is in my head the whole day!😃

WT

Use a YouTube downloader to grab it from Jacks channel.

WT

I feel it’s relevant. Joey and the bois gave Chris a huge compliment at their FCCJ interview! Respect! And agreed I think by the presenter and attendees. Yeah Chris!

Jolie

Loved this particular video for the creativity behind it. It shows how you’ve grown as a filmmaker and artist…pushing outside of your comfort zone. Have to mention that in Connor’s twitch stream your rap song made the rounds. It was pretty amazing to see literally chat filled with ASO…too much volcano. Can’t wait for the album😉

I'm very excited for this unexpected "Chris producing music" chapter. The composition of the music behind the lyrics was so good!

Anonymous

Yup it's stuck in my head. But it's so catchy so I don't care! Another excellent main episode and BtS and this time it was a very fun challenge. I wish more were like this than pure suffering... and it worked out quite nicely with the other two's talents! P.S. good to know you couldn't film it without laughing :P

Anonymous

Every single time you are travelling with Joey you will do something hilarious... and I love it!

Anonymous

What do you mean you weren't in the video, Chris? You are the art we see in it. Your rare talent as a filmmaker shows in everything you do. It's incredible! It doesn't matter if it was made for fun, but I personally think it was an amazing project. Amazing teamwork! I love the chemistry between the three of you! Your friendship is so precious- I had so much fun watching this! And thanks...Now it's stuck in my head!😂

As someone who lived in Kumamoto for four years, Mt. Aso was one of my favorite places. And when it was erupting and raining ash onto the city, I called it "Mt. Asshole."
