Yeah comptroller is basically just a glorified accountant who usually is the head of accounting and finances for an organization. In term of politics, a city comptroller basically runs the accounting department for a city and helps manage a city's finances for the local government. Many run unopposed because as Dennis pointed out, they make terrible money and few people really actually want the job. Fun fact, you actually have heard the word comptroller before, even if you did not notice. But for the first few seasons of Archer, Cyril Figgis was the comptroller for their spy agency, before he became their most mediocre agent lol
