UPDATE!

We believe we've determined that the cause of the below issue is actually a side effect of installing the RPG Maker VX Ace RTP to a non-standard installation directory.  Re-installing the directory to the default path should offer an immediate fix, but we will be sending out a patched version of this release with some additional fixes and puzzle modifications in the next week or so if you'd rather wait!

Great detective work everyone!  This is one of those bugs we wouldn't have been able to track down without everyone's help!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Hey guys!

So, after reviewing the error logs sent by some users experiencing issues with the latest release, we've found that there's a strong likelihood that another RPG Maker game (or some other popular application since we've seen this multiple times now) is actually deleting files from the RPG Maker RTP needed for Malise and the Machine.

If true, this is in all likelihood an accidental error, and is probably something we should have considered a possibility had we thought about it before.

Please note, that these missing files will not stop MATM from running, but it will make it nearly impossible to complete this version because you won't see necessary items on the ground (fuse rewards after exiting the puzzle, as well as an item that triggers an event related to finding Malise use these graphics files).

If you play other RPG Maker games and are experiencing the issues described above, could you message me and let me know which ones?  I'd like to try to prove this theory and notify the author to reduce the likelihood of it happening again.

We will implement a fix for this in a patched version in the next week or two, as well as a safeguard so that it doesn't happen in future versions.

Thanks very much for reporting bugs and helping us find issues such as this one!

Oh my god I was wondering why you guys thought it would be a good idea not to have the graphics, honestly, but that makes so much more sense. Good to hear you've figured out the cause for sure!

Yeah...I feel slightly bad for getting so annoyed, now. Will be interesting to find out what game causes it, if that's really the case. I won't contribute to the process though, because it'd probably be easier to name what RPG Maker games I DON'T play. Honestly. I'm a sucker for the format.

Is it possible to let us know the missing assets? I play a lot of rpg maker games and this is the first time I've heard of this issue. I know I get the white star for the fuse drop but I haven't found the Goggles or oil or any circuit boards.

To be fair, we're not 100% sure that this is caused by another game, but it makes sense, since there's no reason that any other application would want to edit/delete RPG Maker RTP files. On the other hand, we would probably caught it earlier if I didn't remove "missing file" dialog from the game... no crash is good, but no immediate indication that something is wrong (missing file is logged) is bad, so sorry for that... lesson learned.

The white sparkling star is the one of major concern here. You'll find all of those items you've mentioned in chests. My previous post about the puzzle being too hard in general is still accurate, and it will be revamped somewhat in the patched version.

To be honest, only bug I had was the one when the lady spawns at the last battle there was a crash once. Other than that no issues. (Other than me being too dumb to solve the puzzle rooms on my own. :P )

I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I'll be sure to let you know if I encounter it. I don't have many RPG Maker Games on my Laptop though, so it will probably work fine. That is def a weird issue though.

The white sparkling star issue may be caused by RTP installs to a custom path. Reinstalling the RTP did nothing for me until I retried putting it in the default path. I was able to break it again by placing it back in my custom install location. Seems like the call for that particular sprite is going to a fixed location rather than a relative one, for whatever that is worth.

We have a couple of sources now confirming this as the cause. Great work!

Is there any word on when the pdf file will be finished up and sent out?

Martin

I got my VX ACE RTP when I bought the main program itself -RPG Maker VX ACE- on Steam, and it's never been a problem until now, but manually downloading the RTP from rpgmakerweb.com and installing it in the default directory nevertheless did solve this problem for me. Now I see the sparkling star. Gotta say though, this is the first RPG Maker game in which I've ever had this problem. That event animation has worked perfectly in every other game. Weird. Oh well, it works fine now. Thank you for all your hard work and problemsolving! EDIT: And oh. I wonder what the Fusebot's "lottery" is all about. "WIP Nothing here yet", eh? Looking forward to it!

It's coming up on the to do list, so in the next couple days I think. We just yesterday caught up with the influx of messages and emails from the release :D.

I can't reach the elevator... any hint? I can't find enough AMP fuse to open the 3 doors (A, B, C)...

eromancer

Just to make sure, are you able to see fuse rewards left by the pooper drone each time you exit the puzzle area? It should resemble a white glittering star.

Yes it release 10 and 5 fuse

eromancer

Hey! Are you playing V0.043? There's something in each of the puzzle rooms that will make those coordinates make sense :D.
