Greatest sequel of all time. Or at least, that's how it feels lmao, I'm really just that tired. Probably not. BUT.... I feel extraordinarily good about this. I feel so good about it that I really don't care how well it actually performs. I think this was crushed over the left field fence. That's not very humble, like at all... But I think I'm just overcome with emotion because it took a year for this to come together and I've never been so proud of something before 😭

I really cannot thank you alll enough for all of the support and kindness you've given me this year regarding this project. It almost made me quit YouTube, it was exhausting on my mental health, it was far more than I ever could have expected it to be, but dammit, I'd do it all again. It was worth it simply because of what I learned about myself and who I became in the process.

I'm going to go breathe for the first time 12 months now lmao, so you all have a lovely weekend 😂

Seriously, thank you.

This was a great video and I completely stole your spreadsheet for my own use. I agree setting a time limit is the worst thing to do. However, having the data helped me with decisions when I didn't have a lot of time. I was incredibly excited for Sea of Stars and in the month before it's release I only played games where the number of hours to beat were shorter than the number of days until the Sea of Stars release. I knew on average I'd play at least 2 hours during the week, and more on the weekend. This let me finish a number of shorter games, without having to rush through any of them. It actually worked out really well. The main question I would have for you is regarding the titles that didn't interest you. Some of the best games I've played were games I put off because I didn't initially feel interested. I heard so many good things about Nier Replicant and Nier Automata, but I never felt the desire to play them myself. When I finally did I became absolutely enthralled. The same could be said about Yakuza 0, and I honestly spent much the time watching your backlog to see when you were going to play it. I was surprised by how much I loved the game, despite not being sure it was for me, and was wondering if you would have the same experience. Do you fear you are depriving yourself of the potential for a surprise wonderful experience by removing a game from your backlog without playing, or do you think it isn't worth worrying about because you wouldn't know what you might be missing out on? My backlog is huge and mainly used for prioritizing, so I know a game like that can end up lower on the queue, which I guess could essentially be the same as taking it off, but I feel like having the reminder is good. If something made me put it on the list, I feel like I want to be reminded of it.

i revisited the first part of this several times throughout the year. it always gave me a fleeting moment of inspiration to Finish A Game but that requires time that sometimes i did not have. although i did not finish more games than usual this year, i played a game nearly every day and probably clocked more hours than previous years. i spent that precious time on games and savoured every second. and if i didn't savour it in the moment but still wanted to finish it one day, i allowed myself to label it "on hold" in my spreadsheet, instead of "abandoned." it helped me pick up where i left off on a few titles within the year when before they would be completely forgotten about! having a deadline for an ever growing backlog... would never work for me. games i want to play are coming out on consoles i won't be able to afford for a while. plus, i didn't like fromsoft games before i played elden ring and now i suddenly own every single one??? unexpected things happen, the backlog grows but so do i! life is finite but fun has no deadline! so if i tell myself that one day i will finish this game (and i have it written down in my trusty spreadsheet so i won't forget), then one day i will finish that damn game. it may take years, it may take a week. i've found peace in this big list of mine, many years of enjoyment are around the corner but i'm also having fun right now. that first video, it's helped me create a good habit of making time for doing what i love so much every day. it's also helped me read more???? actual novels aside, i read all of berserk this year pls help. it's wonderful to finally watch the conclusion of this backlog journey. i guess all i can say about it.. is "man." also i can RELATE to stealth in dishonored being more difficult than fromsoft games. i was banging my head against the wall when i played the first game a few years ago. for some reason two months ago, i felt like playing it again. i started it up and instinctively played stealthily. then i said to myself screw it, i already played a low chaos run. turns out just charging in and killing everyone is somehow easier? thankfully there's no "right way" to play dishonored. i watched a friend play prey and discovered it was much the same way. if there's a will, there's a way! some games have so many options and it's pretty fun to discover how i like to play versus how i expected you should play.

I don't know if I missed the point or if I'm a masochist, but your journey inspired me to go on and document my own, with one small change: instead of trying to fit everything in a single year, see how much I can fit in the year. Remove the harsh deadline that killed your buzz.

I am a couple weeks late to the party. I hadn't had time to sit down and enjoy the video in it's entirety until today, because I can't watch long form videos piecemeal. I loved every second of it. One of the things that stuck out to me was the advice your wife gave, that you can't be present if you're always looking forward. Whether it's quality time with my family or my games, books, and anime backlog, I need to be present in the moment and enjoy it for what it is. Because you never know how much time you actually have left. I spend too much time waiting for a thing to get better after X amount of hours invested and get stuck in the sunk cost. I am getting better about letting go, but it's a hard thing to put into practice. The Hellblade segment brought me to tears. The way you described the ending hit hard, especially in relation to your experience this year and some things I have been working towards and keep getting set back. I feel like I could have more to say about this, but I don't know how to put the emotions I felt into the right words. PinchedSlinky and Wendriel, I really enjoyed reading your comments. I'm excited to tackle my own backlog now, and I might even get organized with it like you and others in this thread. Take care everyone.
