Hello there! It has been an interesting past few days. For the first time in over 3 years, I've begun to write a proper video that is largely NOT based on psychology and it is CHALLENGING me. This is an outright assignment, at first I felt like I was in college writing a paper again haha. However now that I've found some momentum and direction, I'm having an absolute blast. I feel like I can sit back and "just go" if that makes any sense.

Anyways, this backlog video is going to be a hoot. There will be psych in it, there will be shenanigans, there will be anecdotes, there will be splashes of my terrible sense of humor, there will be weirdly emotional parts, there will be educational parts, and hopefully, there will be something that smuggles a smile onto your face. I'm having a blast writing this. This feels good.

Now then, I have a confession. You've seen me talk about Magic The Gathering in the past on twitter, on these posts, and maybe even in passing in a video before. However... my stupid friends... (OH LAWD they stupid, like stoopid with two 'o's) have somehow... gotten me to play... the Pokémon Trading Card Game. And this is the part that really pisses me off...

I absolutely love it.

It's approximately 125206 times cheaper than MTG, the cards are beautiful, my whole friend group is playing all of a sudden, and I have a full art Marnie. Oh and the game is fun lmao, that's probably worth noting. I'm finding myself saving and making deck lists, watching the world championships, ordering cards, opening packs, wasting more money with more orders and more packs. I feel like a kid again except with a salary. Why bring this up? Simply to illustrate how obnoxiously obsessed I am with it now. It's leaking into Patreon posts. Send help.

That said, I also bring it up because I think I've realized over the past year that I really enjoy trading card games and I think I owe it to myself and those of you that also have an affinity for pretty paper to do a video on it at some point. I have no thesis, no jokes, nothing substantial enough for a video now, but down the line? Yeah, I think this has to happen at least once.

Other than that, it's been channel work, God of War, Chainsaw man, Cyberpunk Edgerunners (the anime), and random manga I've found time to read. Oh I also started an actual novel called the Silent Patient. It's VERY good and I'd like to start reading novels more. My lofty backlog goals would like a word regarding this.

Oh yeah! And to close this out, check out the full art thumbnails that I ended up making to revamp some of the older videos on the channel. I'm pretty happy with them but there are a few more I'd like to redo once I find more time. These are all live by the way if you want to go see on the channel.

Thank you to everyone who dropped in for the streams last week! I had a blast hanging out with you all and I hope you felt it was time well spent. Have a lovely week my friends; go kick some ass :)

I'm not surprised there's a certain amount of re-balancing required in producing a video without the ties to psychology. Of course, it's a wonderful decision and ultimately very liberating (as you've already begun to feel), but it's also not the way that you're used to doing things, and that does take some adjustment. I'm very much looking forward to that backlog video! Like Brandon, I haven't collected or played Pokemon TCG since I was younger, but I do love TCG's and, even if I've fallen a bit out of love with the current direction of MTG, the stories and cards that resonate with me do so very powerfully. A video on the subject of card games sounds wonderful. LOL about the backlog goals not liking this idea that you should read more novels. My book backlog is bigger than my current gaming backlog, and it is a tough balancing act to make progress on both of them at a reasonable pace. There's something about reading, though, that I find relaxing to an even more profound level than even my precious level/achievement grinding. It's just not always easy to make time for it, because it also requires a bit more mental energy. :D The thumbnails are also absolutely gorgeous. I particularly love what you did with the Midna one, and Aerith... oh, yes, that captures "feeling empty" much more deeply than the original, which I also liked. There's a certain pathos to that shot of her in the opening, though, the juxtaposition of hope (represented by the life energy and Aerith herself) and despair (represented by Midgar itself and the fact that the life energy is being literally torn from the Planet). The kneeling position also calls back to the end of Disc 1, come to think of it. Even at the beginning, Aerith was praying. :) Also, random note- I did finally finish platinuming FFX-2, and holy gods, Last Mission is about ten times worse than the main game. It's like if someone took the most garbage Binding of Isaac skeleton and slapped FFX-2 character/monster models and some of the most wretchedly-written "story" cutscenes on top of it. I had to cave in and use the Supercharge booster that came with the remaster just to preserve my sanity. I... do not recommend it. LOL. Have a great week, and continue enjoying whatever it is that calls to you at every opportunity, be it novels, Pokemon, or doing your duty to that backlog. You deserve it and you got this. ;)

Much appreciated as always Wendriel, I’m terribly sorry for the slog that was FFX-2 but congrats that it’s done now!! Haha But 100% yes, I completely forgot that the experience of reading a novel is so oddly calming. It’s almost like a runners high after a certain time to where you kind of forget you’re reading and you’re just lost in the story. It’s amazing. Also so glad you vibed with the thumbnails, I was a big fan of the Aerith one as well haha.
