It's done. I got through it. And you know what? I dig  this one.

I have my issues with it, chiefly that I sort of mushed together two bigger topics to make it. I got excited about them both, felt they would work well together, and so that's how it ended up. And I think it does work, this is a good video. But in the process of mixing them, I feel like neither individual topic ever really hit full stride.

Instead of two potentially great videos, I have one good one.

But that's alright! I'm at peace with it, not everything will be a grand slam, and hell, for all I know, people may adore this. Believe it or not I was actually really disappointed with the 4th wall video when I made it way back when. I thought it was rushed, that all my points were big stretches, and that it was mid. Honestly it makes me want to do a video on metacognition haha, why we hate what we make/do sometimes despite the fact that we're excelling.

Here's hoping you like this one! Next for me is a little break, some bonus stuff for you guys next week, and THEN it's the big one. The Psych of Play on anime. My god, I don't know how I'm going to settle on one topic lmao.

Happy Friday!

Huge thanks to The Ridge Wallet for Sponsoring this episode! 13 years ago, I began a journey that I often wondered if I would ever finish. Along the way, I played a lot of games and began to notice that whether or not a game ends is actually a huge factor in my gaming preference. Today on Psych of Play, we’ll talk about that journey I took and how it is oddly intertwined with a need we all have to some degree, a need for closure. Huh, this sums up my relationship with genshin impact perfectly. For me it's getting harder and harder to play and enjoy this game, which I've played consistently for over a year now. After reaching AR 57, I just couldn't bring myself to continue playing. Even when they added a new region and a story event right now that looks like a lot of fun and features some of my favorite characters, after I finished the Inazuma storyline, I just feel done, discouraged to continue playing. I feel like it’s been going on forever, and I did all the game has to offer, whether it’s levelling up and strengthening all my favorite characters and using them to beat the spiral abyss, collecting all the culus orbs in all 3 regions, unlocking a decent amount of achievements, or getting the characters I want. The only thing left to do is the story which doesn’t seem like it won’t end anytime soon, and I just don’t feel like sticking around for only that. In any case, it was so validating to see you and other people having a similar experience. Enjoy your break man you deserve it.

Man, that part about putting off FF13 is so relatable. I bought it at the start of 2011 but it took me until early 2012 to finish it, with intermittent extended breaks. I really loved the characters and the tensions between them, but I wasn't particularly sold on the external plot (as opposed to their internal journeys) and its glacial pace was grinding down my will to keep on playing. I remember feeling that a so much better and tighter story could have been told about these people if only they were allowed to carry the story, instead of being its unwilling passengers for most of the time. Nevertheless, the ending really made me feel things, too, which was probably the reason I ordered a collector's edition of XIII-2, which was releasing around the same time. Like you said, its Good Ending Override felt like so much BS to me at the time, and without spoiling too much, its own ending was somehow even more of a gut punch. Even though it was an objectively better game than XIII, I felt so cheated by its plot, I decided that a) I will read a plot summary for Lightning Returns before deciding whether to buy it and b) even if I do, it will hav to be a used copy because Squenix still owed me a good ending after part two. I ended up getting a used copy of LR from GameStop a couple years later, but I've never actually played it (or replayed XIII) because of all the negative emotions stirred by parts one and two. Maybe you can talk about the trauma of an unexpected bad ending and what it does to people some day. -__-

You know, I've been scarred by so many bad endings at this point, I just may have to entertain that video idea haha
