Hey everyone, so I wanted to update you quickly. I'm tired, so I don't want this to be too long but I wanted to just give you all a quick update.

1) Thank you for all the amazing messages you've sent me. I've read every single comment here on Patreon, it means a ton. I'm sorry I don't have the bandwidth to respond to every one as normal, but it means a lot, and thank you all for being here, you beautiful, amazing people.

2) As you all probably saw, my appeal was denied. I am deeply upset by this, though not all surprised. Honestly, it has led me to be angry, not just at how my video was treated, which I think was deeply unfair, but at how YouTube used the langage in the appeal letter of "we wish to keep YouTube safe", imply that I do not. Yet, they allow folks to share misinformation about trans people and do much more harm regularly. So I'm honestly more upset that they only uphold their community standards against trans folks and other marganalized people, and not those actually sending hate. I'm going to be doing a video on it next week about this, and I'm going to plan to make it a call to action for YouTube to be held accountable to applying their own community standards across the board. I don't want this to be about me, but about ACTUALLY working to make YouTube a safe place for everyone, including trans people, which it currently is not. So that's my next step plan. Maybe it won't make a difference, but I have to believe and try. That's how we fight for, and make, that better world that Star Trek has inspired me to believe in.

Also, while YouTube will not tell me what cause the problem, I have learned from folks who are experts on this issue what was mostly likely the issue. And I have to say, if they are correct, I'm bothered. I'll share thoughts on that later, because I want to be clear in my language.

3) As for the Matt Walsh video, most of you have already seen it here on Patreon and Nebula. I'm going to make a censored version for YouTube so folks can see it, because I want to get it out there, as I think it's important.

4) After those two videos, I'm focusing on more positive stuff for a bit. I didn't expect to have to fight these fights, and I'm going to do it becuase it's right, but then I need to self care.

Thank you all for you love and kindness, and thank you for being so understanding and supportive during all of this. I couldn't do it without you all behind me <3.

Jessie, take a note from Ukraine. The fight is long and hard, but the fight is worth it. There will be major victories, but also setbacks. After major campaigns forces need to stop, rest, and resupply. If they don't, they will be wiped out. Your video on Matt Walsh and the fight against censorship is leading you to a point you need to stop, rest, and resupply (I can't imagine how much coffee I would have gone through by now). Doing this self care isn't leaving the fight, it's getting you ready for the next fight, and there will be a next battle. Do what you need and as you've seen with these comments, you will remain supported.

Honestly it sucks so much that this is happening to you. I'm cheering you on - your work is so important and it deserves to be seen!

If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. I am angry about this, too - not just about your video, but about the way YouTube and other platforms (like Twitch) allow marginalized people to be harassed and their content is constantly being banned, demonetized, and scrutinized. Not only that, but I saw ads for the Daily Wire and Matt Walsh's documentary everywhere! They were even on videos that were critical of Matt Walsh, like, recently I saw one on a video by "Savvy writes books" (or something like that.) I would really like to do something to make this better. I'm not sure what I can do, but if you need people to write emails or twitter comments, or anything else, I am eager to help!

I also think this is tied to white supremacy. Something I've noticed is how the Black community is very willing to help people out monetarily, no questions asked, but white people assume that anyone in need is scamming them or dishonest unless they have an airtight story. This is the attitude I get from a lot of institutions, too, that assume you are trying to "scam the system" and are basically a bad actor by default. I feel like this is how YouTube is treating you, too, like you are not playing by the rules and you're a bad faith actor. I really dislike this because I think it stems from white people who need to believe that good people who are genuinely doing their best are criminals, fakers, or trying to get away with something in order to justify disregarding their grievances and not treating people with respect. This "bad by default" attitude really upsets me and I see that in those letters Youtube sent you. It just makes me even more angry about this.

I think it’s really screwed up that they won’t tell you specifically what part(s) of the video are the supposed issue, especially considering the penalty if it happens again. It seems that if they really want people (which should include both viewers *and* creators) to feel safe on YouTube they should be specific. Maybe this is their policy across the board with any video that gets removed for violating their supposed community standards, but part of me wonders if they don’t want to tell you because they know it would sound/look/be bad/transphobic. I’m so sorry. I was holding out hope that it was removed by an automated system and that if it was reviewed by real people they’d put the video back up. I love your work. If someone had told me without context that I would be willing to watch hours of video in response to a documentary that I haven’t seen and never will, I would have doubted. All your videos are so interesting. I can’t wait to watch this one when I have the time. Lots of hugs.

This whole thing has been so upsetting as someone on the sidelines watching some of my fave creators go thru this bs, I can't imagine having to be the one to be actually dealing with it. :c I think the world needs more silly fun and uplifting things, and I'm super looking forward to having a giggle. I hope it helps you feel better too, hugs if you want them <3

Please take care of yourself, and know that you are supported and appreciated

Wishing you all the luck in the days ahead as you fight back. It's fucked up what happened to you, even if it's sadly not surprising, and I hope things get better for marginalized creators someday.

Absolutely gutted. Glad to hear you have experts on this issue to work with, I wouldn't know where to begin. Glad to hear you are going to get a version of the Matt Walsh video out. I think shifting gears into shit you care about matters.

:( #2 is extra sadness. But I'm eager to see what sort of fun videos you decide to make next!

First off, you = Awesome, Jessie. Your research and hard work really show in the quality and depth of your videos. Second, Something similar happened to the Ask A Mortician channel about one of her vids, like same form message, same vague reasons. But she said something in her explanation video, and I was wondering how this might work. So she said that anyone could still access the video on YouTube as long as they have the direct link to it. I checked it out, and it appears your link to the original video still works. Is that something that would still benefit you if we sent people to watch that, or would it be better to post links to the new censored video. Thirdly, again, You = Awesome. Watching your videos really helped me when coming out to my loved ones. Thank you.

I know of at least one other content creator who ran into community guidelines issues. Maybe this is someone who'd be interested in working with you on a video about the issues of the community guidelines system? https://youtu.be/cN5hNzVqkOk
