Epic tutorial Scott! Ur a master painter sir. Need to inflate tht head a bit and give yourself more cred. I’ve decided now I ain’t gunna touch the duchess until I got an air brush after watching this. Real great tips and references as always. Thanks!

1) Any particular quality of dirt you like best (incredible trick; I may just try them all lol)

2) What color (paint) did you add the Iyanden Yellow too; or did you glaze it straight?

3) Do you know if seperate applications of the liquid sand can create a clearer water affect with each successive application?

Just dirt from my backyard. I bake it at 170 for 30 minutes to kill bacteria, and then grind it up in a cheapo tiny blender. You can then sift out larger chunks if you want.

I glazed it straight! I did thin it down with some water, maybe 2 parts water to 1 part iyanden yellow

Really enjoyed both the original video and this breakdown of the paint process. 1.) That smoke-- yeah I have no idea how to paint smoke. For a lot of subjects, the only way to figure out how to paint/draw them is to actually try to do it, figure out what works and doesn't, and then try again. This is something I try to remind myself when painting. Just paint it and learn from it, cause unless you're going to spend hours doing studies of a subject, it's not going to turn out the way you expect the first time you paint it. You and Jon have been very encouraging on that point and it's helped me a lot: just paint the damn model and learn from it. 2.) That fire is awesome. 3.) Question about the gold NMM. You paint very distinct layers from the darkest color, to midtone, to highlight, and then somehow blend them all together. I can do this ok when I lay down 2 colors and then apply some glazes over them. I can also get this to work if I have a many color transition I need to blend together over a larger space. But on the gold on her breasts you have almost a bunch of tiny stripes right next to each other. I would have just started with wet blending there, because I have no idea what to do to smooth out that transition (looking at the 9 minute mark). Are you doing a bunch of glazing to smooth it out?

It's a lot of feathering and glazing. The advantage with this approach is I can set my layer size/color/position and then blend the layers and not much changes. I find wet blending a little more chaotic.
