What up, mini family?! This week is a video editing heavy week. When I found out that the Creature Caster video was going to be delayed due to unforeseen problems, I had to quickly work on something else. So, I banged out a few scripts that I could batch shoot. The first one was the early release for this week, which was all about my favorite prep equipment.
And the next one is "How Not to be a Pleb v2" which is video similar to my most popular video with new tips for beginners and advanced painters alike. I'm currently in the middle of editing this video.
Just yesterday, Creature Caster said my script was OK, so I'll be shooting and editing that one after this. He also mentioned that they ran into a few minor snags when casting up the vampire, so they're going to adjust the sculpt and I should have the model in 2-3 weeks. Additionally, this weekend I have my 2nd ever private 1 on 1; another 1 day event, so I have to plan and prepare for that. This weekend he would like to learn how to wetblend, and also understand the theory of OSL, but not necessarily go into the full implementation of it. We wanted to talk about OSL in full, but I didn't think I could jam that all into 1 x 8 hour lesson.
In regards to the beanies, I put in the order for them. The local seamstress that I use is on top of her orders (I used here in the past when making miniac patches). We should see them in the next couple of weeks.
It's been a while since we talked about gear on a BTS post, and that's been because I've been saving money in anticipation of going to full time, but I want there to be a distinct difference between "part time miniac" and "full time miniac", so I decided to invest in some new equipment which will be trickling in over time. This week's new gear are a pair of Lume Cubes.
I first saw these on the Tested youtube channel. They are tiny lights with all the features of a professional fixture. They have magnetic attachments to modify the light:
Here you can see the diffusion orb and a snoot attached. Another cool feature is you can stack the light modifiers!
Here I have a green gel and the snoot together. There's an app that allows you to control them wirelessly with features like modifying the brightness of the light, strobing and the list goes on. These little guys will really pack a punch when I'm shooting b-roll for the channel of painted miniatures or really anything. To also upgrade my b-roll game, I got a smoke machine.
Having some smoke in the air when using hard cut light like with one of the lume-cubes with a snoot on it allows you to see the beam. This will allow me to play more with the cubes and to up the drama/ambiance of my shots.
That's all for now! PAINT MORE MINIS!
