What up mini family?!

This past week has been all about carpentry and getting the pick up shots for my short film coming out on Halloween!

On the 7th of October I got together with my buddy who was acting as effectively my director of photography and we picked up all the shots on my shot list. We had to to do it ASAP because the house we shot it in (a friend of mine's) is being sold by the person he's renting it from. We actually had to fit our schedule in with some showings! Here are a few screen shots:

I love working with my buddy, Alex. He has great ideas for composing shots and cutting them  together in seamless ways. I hope that it won't be obvious which shots were filmed 2 years later, but I have a feeling it will be!

Now onto carpentry......it would be an understatement to say that I am in over my head. The first thing I did was use my newly purchased router to finish up some of the dado slots

Then, after that was complete I had to square them off with my chisels.

I am not the best at using chisels, this is my first time. Luckily the very corner of the slot will be hidden by the butt joint, so my bad chisel work will be hidden! After this, I went on to installing my dowel joinery.

My doweling jig is simple, but simple is all I need. I struggled to get the installation 100% accurate, so some shaping work later will be necessary to make all the joints look seamless. After that, I started to cut out the waste area in my wood so that my table can clam shell open. I just finished doing that this morning, so I have no pictures of it.

This process is pretty stressful, if I'm being honest. I keep having to go to Home Depot to buy more things I didn't think I would need like a new circular saw that has a bigger cut capacity and a better jigsaw because mine is a piece of crap. I will not be able to finish this table and video by tomorrow for early release. Again, I am in way over my head but I am going to finish this thing if it freakin' kills me! Sorry that I will be late.

Love,

Scott

We don't learn anything by staying in our comfort zone. Build ... more ... tables.
