Contemporary Twitter thread from the comics world: https://twitter.com/evandorkin/status/1326272335830265857 In particular, the follow-up post here: https://twitter.com/evandorkin/status/1326278348805320704 and here: https://twitter.com/evandorkin/status/1326275763981737986 So at least one creator seems to expect to lose royalties when IP transfers. In this case, he had a contract with Dark Horse Comics to make Predator content while DHC had the license to exploit the Predator IP. Now that Predator has reverted to Disney, they will be republishing the *DHC* comics as a graphic novel - and Evan seems content that his contract with DHC has no bearing on the original IP owner republishing their own licensed IP after said sublicense expires. I'm not sure if there might be some insight into typical licensing terms when dealing with licensed IP here, and folks are encouraging Evan to reach out to SFWA who are busy collecting more war stories to support any follow-up.

Just speaking as someone who used to consult for another large media entity's legal clearance department, Disney is pretty infamous for stonewalling on royalties when they acquire new media properties. It's really the only media company of its size that venerates the MBA over the creatives in pretty much every aspect of its business. That's great for shareholders but not so good for the people who create the content. There is a reason creatives working in the company sometimes derisively call it "Mauschwitz" and "Duckau."
