Yes! There's just a subtle difference between gaining weight and getting fat, that is amplified by Ilya's state of mind. While she definitely got fatter, she's disappointed by it on multiple levels (page 187): she doesn't look like she expected (most of the gain went into her breasts), she isn't satisfied by that look, and first and foremost she didn't manage to get rid of her "urges". So to her, she's not truly fat, and she put the blame for this on her ushi-ness. Basically, from that experience she considers being an ushi a negative factor for getting fat, while she acknowledges she gained weight, something that is indisputable anyway.
