I wanted to take a quick temperature of all you guys here. Since I changed the way I am doing things obviously Deviantart is getting updates from me regularly. It'll pretty much continue until it's caught up here. Since you all are the lifeblood of this art I need to know how you feel about it.

Even though they are censored and low res watermarked, I would understand if people not paying to get what you are paying for upsets you guys. Let me know how you feel down below if you want to. I want all opinions, Thank you!

I don’t mind the pics being posted to DA but have you considered maybe cropping or censoring more of certain pics to encourage users to view the full pics here?

laptop456

I have considered it, but I felt like it would almost be taunting the DeviantArt watchers to basically make it impossible to enjoy or see what's happening. I feel like the low resolution and watermarks are enough to encourage big fans to come on over. And fyi I only censor certain parts so that the pic doesn't get pulled.

laptop456

I just feel like it would be too much a thumb in the eye to have them be practically billboards for my Patreon. The purpose of the low res and watermarks are so the viewing on DA is still a gallery, but saving/downloading those images would not be worth it.

Aickavon

hooo lawdy that ratio. I love these folks. 53 folks not giving a damn <3

ChickenNoodle

I came from your youtube, then deviant art , then here. It’s been nearly a decade and I personally felt I owed you. Continue to be a sincere and honest artist and you’ll surely win fans and patrons

How caught up will they be?

laptop456

Well the plan is to have them current. But when they catch up Patreon will have the exclusive until a comic is complete in its entirety. Once its complete then the full comic ends up on Da and the high res should be in the Library

You know what, I understand that feeling and I really respect it. On Eka's I follow certain artists who will often use a very captivating and alluring thumbnail for their uploads. Only once I've clicked the thumbnail, do I see that it's just some big teaser for their Patreon. That's always been so off-putting to me personally. The whole point of a preview/thumbnail to me is that when I click on it, I'll be rewarded with the full image; not an ad and a paywall between me and the image. Some artists I follow don't really have as much of a gallery as they have ad space. I respect that you don't want to be like them. A key difference with you, is you have regularly uploaded and shared plenty of free content in the past, which never needed censoring. I knew those images were the real deal and nothing was being held back. Those kinds of works are perfect for showing off what you have to offer, and making us want more without the need to make the free variant less rewarding artificially through censorship or downgraded quality. I took the leap and started paying for your content almost immediately, cuz I saw your work for years and I knew it's quality. I know what got me hooked as your fan, but I can't speak for others, especially greedy bastards that can't fork over like $10 bucks to get top quality work. So while I'm not bothered at all by these changes, I know why these changes are being made, and I'm none the wiser as to how to protect your work without making drastic changes. If it's alright with you, I'll let you know if I think of any good ideas on how to prevent theft and shit. I just definitely don't want overstep by giving unsolicited advice unless you specifically ask

laptop456

I want a dialogue between us no matter what it's about. Don't think you're overstepping by giving advice :) And perhaps DeviantArt will get my low res free stuff up to a point. And then for future project releases I'll just post like a few key pictures from the set but keep the entire set for the Library. Like the set up picture and maybe a halfway eaten picture but then say the ending is in the Library. Maybe that will be tolerable? Idk haha it could still be too tease heavy lol

Well.. Art is meant to be shared eventually... It doesn't bother me... Will keep supporting you..

DeviantFrankie

I think at the end of the day, you need to do what's right for how you feel your art should be shared. There is certainly a good deal of support here, one way or another. Personally, I like the idea of sharing a few of the images and then saying "For the complete set, please see my Patreon". I know its not as appealing and I know that its also not very popular to lock things behind the pay-wall. Frankly, I think if you put massive censorship stickers over the fun bits that's usually enough to get someone to come to Patreon for the real deal. Ninjartist does that.

LordDantai

I think how you have been watermarking the images and the resolution have been great choices. If you were going to add anything more maybe the patron url at the bottom of the pick. I also think its great that everything will eventually end up on out there. Some of my favourite creators are ones that eventually post content elsewhere, they is just timing and pacing of releasing content. It really helps people who are on the fence to actually join.

Personally, I don't like the idea of people who haven't paid to see your work getting freebees... However, it might bring you more income $$$ when they do see the work. I think though, if you're going to upload it to DA you shouldn't upload all of the images, especially if its one of your major series, I'd say you don't post certain pages to lure the person in more and try persuade them to join your patreon to view the page you didn't post. But at the end of the day its your work, and nothing anyone says on here should really influence what you need do. :)

Opleras

I love the releases on Deviantart. Also, as a new Patreonee I was wondering if there is an official discord for Laptop?

Lathric

I would just like to know where we can receive the un-watermarked versions from you. Is there a link?

LordDantai

At the end of the month we will receive a private message with a link to the original content for that month. If you want his past work, there is a higher teir for that as well.

Tbh I sadly am not gonna be able to afford patreon soon. So I'm kinda glad you post on DA. Frankly I always was annoyed when people went: hey here's tiny section of the full art. Just felt so manipulative, and you're a fairly straightforward guy. Plus given the recent discoveries I can't blame you.
