We are excited to announce that in conjunction with the release of our new album 'EXUL' (out March 24), that we are going to be releasing instrumental versions of all 6 songs exclusively on Patreon!

A new instrumental version will come out on Patreon each month between March-August, 2023.

  • A private stream (see link at the bottom of this post!) will be available for all $5+ members to listen to.
  • The HD quality audio will be available for all $10+ members to download and keep for all time as part of your personal NeO collection! (being posted today also!)

Here in March we kick things off with the instrumental version of 'EQUUS'. Why would we do such a thing as remove Xen & Tim's vocals from the mix when they form such important parts of the songs? Well, when you remove the vocals it clears out the mix a bit so that you can hear more clearly some of the other details going on. So if you want to listen in more detail to the drums or bass parts, or hear some of the beautiful string playing without any vocals over the top-- then this is for you! (I really think the acoustic/strings section at 8min sounds stunning in this version). The song also has a different energy at times in this version which may really appeal to some people.

IMPORTANT: Just quickly noting that it's really important to not share these publicly as keeping certain things exclusive here on Patreon obviously makes it more special and worthwhile to be a member of The Ne Oblumatini. We want to provide the best experience here with us possible as it really is essential to our future to get membership numbers up as high as we can. So thanks in advance for respecting that and keeping this to yourself.

EXTRA NOTE: Each of the instrumental versions is going to be available on Patreon for 2 MONTHS. The month it comes out, and the month following. After that each of them will disappear. (This is to avoid people signing up at the end and being able to download all of them at once) So if you want to "collect them all" the $10 level will be the one for that. If you simply want the chance to listen to each as they come up each month, then the $5 level has you covered. We'll make sure we remind people before we take them down so you remember to download your copy in advance!

So go have a listen and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Enjoy!

- Tim

Awesome idea! I know so many people that love metal music but just can’t get around growls and screams, but really enjoy the music, plus as you said, this will also give a different perspective to each track and allow hearing each track in a new light, instrumentally… should do this with the back catalogue, too…

Oh wow this is nice! But it’s weirdly different without the vocals! Yet indeed we can now appreciate the instrumentations more! It also makes me realise how intense it is with the vocals! And I guess I really do like my music intensely now 😁

As much as I appreciate vocals (Tim and Xen included, of course) they tend to drown out the music and (obviously) direct an interpretation of the song as a whole. I enjoy instrumental versions as I find it very interesting to hear the detail in what is happening behind the vocalist/s especially with the complex, extreme and layered styles of music such as NeO plays. I love to 'get lost' in the music, and am often distracted by vocals/lyrics... Also, many thanks for offering instrumental versions of all of Equus!

Thanks so much for the support! Make sure you let us know what you think of this version of the song! - Tim

Hey Liam, great idea about the back catalogue. I guess the tricky thing for most of the back catalogue is that in contrast to these EXUL instrumental versions which were created by Mark Lewis when he did the mix/master of the standard version of the album, we didn't create them at the time of POI/Citadel/URN. So we would need to go back and pay to get them created (provided they still have the sessions saved). If these were really popular we could definitely look into though as it's not impossible, but seeing it would cost a bit of money there's got to be strong demand. So basically if more people like this idea, make sure you let us know! - Tim

It's definitely different that's for sure! Hopefully an interesting new perspective on the song to get to know it at an even deeper level. :-) - Tim

No worries Neil! That's great to hear that you appreciate us offering these different versions of the songs. It definitely is a great opportunity to appreciate different aspects of the songs for sure. Enjoy! - Tim

2023-03-08 13:51:48 I appreciate the instrumental only versions, but I am typically not a fan of them over the original ones. I do want to clearly hear and pay special attention to each artist’s instrument but for me this actually works just as well - or sometimes better - in video play throughs, like the awesome one Benji & Tino did recently, or which Dan had posted on YouTube for songs from previous albums

Hey Niklas, of course we think the album versions with vocals are the best as that is why we write the song that way. The instrumental versions offer a different perspective and energy which some won't connect with, and others will really appreciate which is of course ok. :-) - Tim
