In my mind, absorption and fusion are distinct categories -- the latter seeing one being subsumed into another, while the latter is a more egalitarian and balance combination. I'm a huge fan of fusion, not as much absorption.

The entire space is a really strange middle ground between reasonable and some kind of vore. Almost always going to keep minds intact unless the fusion is absolute.
