This is a Clothing Item – The Junaida Armor

This is a sacred piece of armor that provides protection for the wary adventurer.

-------------------

Context

This is the first release of a complete set of clothing or clothing in general as a complete project.

This initially was supposed to be part of the new release or a new character, but the more I worked on it the more it took life on it's own to the point of becoming something completely separate with it's own identity if I may say.

Making this armor taught me many things about clothing creation, as I used to approach this haphazardly but now it's more methodical and with purpose, details and layers. I could dare say I could actually attempt creating clothing in general too with the knowledge gained from this. But that still up for debate as I never really released clothing and reception to it would show if I should continue or not.

Making this armor set took a very long time, much longer then I expected honestly, first there are 15 individual layered pieces. Each has high fidelity detailed baked on a very primitive version, which means the clothing set is very performance friendly. Then managed to make different pattern/color variant while sticking to the theme.

I think one of the drawbacks is that I used 8k textures, I did not pay attention to this until I was packaging the clothing item and found the size file 😥... So we are looking now for around 8.5GB of a download, this honestly was not expected and to fix it I would probably need another week just to reduce the file size to half of this, I honestly think this is not worth it for the effort. This means 15 pieces and each piece has 4 different color variant. so grand total of 60 individual variant that would need to be reworked. To make matters worst each of these variants have 4 maps so basically were talking about 240 maps..... Just to get the file size to half of what it is.

But, lessons learned, as each variant 4 textures would be around 250MB max, which is as anyone would expect the standard of what you download from the hub today anyways, but I guess I forgot I'm doing this for 15 items, which means it's like downloading 15 different clothing items 🤣 , I'm sorry!

Anyways, please feel free to provide feedback as usual, I could tackle simple 1 piece clothing too as I have several concept I could revisit too ✌

Any chance you could split the one big file using 7-Zip into several parts, like 1-2 GB sized ones? It would make it easier to download each individual part and then combine them once all parts finished. As it is now something always interrupts big downloads for me, if not mega itself with its download quouta limit. I will just have to pass on this .var as it is now. Looks cool though.

2021-07-09 02:55:45 If you have MEGAsync this would have not been an issue. As it caches & resumes your download and works with "Means" to subvert quota limitations. You should try it, if this fails please do do not hesitate to give me feedback. I'm new to uploading clothing and there is already an explanation on the file size dilemma I had with this release up in the context.

I managed to download it using Google Chrome eventually.

It looks great but I won't download this. And it's not the MEGA problem - I just can't afford one clothing set to take 8GB on my hard drive. Did you consider any image editing tools which have batch file resize/conversion functionality? This way you can point it to the textures folder and let it do all the work automatically.

TheOriginalBatatis

Yeah, I heard your voice. I would also not be keen on downloading something this file size as well. I'm working on dealing with the size issue yesterday. It will take some time probably a day or 2 etc, but I'm sure I can reduce it to something acceptable. Have faith 😅!

TheOriginalBatatis

Yeah, this must have been tough. I'm working on reducing the file as we speak, it will take a day or 2 mostly. Apologies for the hassle you had to go through 🙇‍♂️

I resized all the textures down to 2048x2048 (I'm only using VR so don't notice any potential quality loss) and removed one of the presets that I won't be using to save additional space and re-packaged it as a .var file again with a final size of 714 MB which is nice for 14 clothing items over 3 different presets. Making each clothing item average ~50 MB each. I can't recommend this approach if you have never mod anything for VAM before though. :)

TheOriginalBatatis, thank you for reducing the size! Much appreciated <3
