I predict you will change your mind later as you see Law's power more, but Smoker remaining unconscious like you suggested would not make sense given what we know about Law's powers. The fact that Smoker lost consciousness in the first place is actually weird and probably threw you off, Smoker hasn't been physically harmed at all. It isn't explained why, but we have to assume it's just a quirk of the fruit that it knocks someone unconscious when it separates someone's heart from the rest of their body specifically. Smoker being conscious is the same application of Law's power we have seen since he first used it in Sabaody, it hasn't changed. That Samurai has been moving and conscious as a head without the rest of his body (including his heart). Many others on top of that. As you have seen by now, when Law cuts something within his "room" he can choose to have it become separated into pieces with no resulting physical or biological damage to the victim. Additionally, from a purely biological standpoint the entire body is still 100% linked together with Law's power even after being cut into pieces by him. Organs, veins, bones, everything. It's all still connected by Law's ability despite being in separate places. Otherwise, the person would instantly die from something like being decapitated. This effect persists even with Law's room no longer active, and no matter how far away Law is from what he separated. This is also why Law's fruit makes him an unparalleled surgeon in the sense of him being an actual doctor. Law can perform any surgery on someone without even spilling a drop of their blood in the process.
