They’re both really great in embodying their characters in that last scene, like they’re really nailing the characterisation. Nick’s always shows emotional vulnerability with Charlie (like crying in this particular scene and sharing how he feels) while Charlie maintains a facade of composure, even in that scene, as he’s talking about the past, he’s still not being completely honest and pretending everything is okay now and hiding his struggles. I‘m not sure everyone caught that because it’s somewhat subtle - for example there aren’t really any scenes depicting Charlie spiralling alone in his room to let the audience know what’s really going on, even while dating Nick. But yeah, they’re definitely not trying to make it about Nick "saving" Charlie at all, in fact they’re avoiding that narrative completely. That’s the reason I’ve been so vocal about mental health being a central theme throughout the series. I think mental illness is probably the issue the comics portrayed the best overall, and that’s why I’m very excited for next season (as long as they stick with the source material) because it‘ll dive deep into what recovery actually is about. I really disagree about it being always Nick saving Charlie because this season literally made a point of Charlie supporting Nick throughout his whole coming out and all the anxiety Nick had about it. Nick even said it in the last scene, that Charlie was basically the reason he felt confident to "do all those scary things". I think they’re actually quite balanced in that regard, it’s just that Charlie has a struggle that inevitably needs professional help and that’s okay. Charlie also stood up for Nick (and himself actually) multiple times this season and I don’t thing him continuing to struggle negates that. Growth and recovery is just not a linear thing unfortunately. But yeah, obviously our views on Charlie’s character differ and we’ll have to agree to disagree there, but despite that, or maybe even because of that, I really enjoyed your reactions and perspectives. So, thank u for sticking with it even though you kinda hated it 🫶🏽😂

one thing to throw in is that while true about charlie’s mum not being completely terrible, she's pretty nitpicky about her kids and appearances matter a lot to her. they hinted at that throughout the season but were kinda subtle about it. iirc her issues and how they affect both charlie and tori are explored in the following volumes, so that would be in season 3. but her perfectionism and not talking openly in the family only feed into charlie’s tendency to keep things hush-hush and his obsession with being perfect. it’s also why his mum never realised how bad he was or that he needed help. and good news since you seem to enjoy tori – she's getting more spotlight next season, which a lot of solitaire fans are happy about. too bad they didn’t let us into darcy‘s fight with her mum more. i hope they‘ll dive into her home life next season but the side characters are a blind spot from here on out and i suspect their storylines might be pushed into the background again next season, we‘ll see.
