The Doctor's "it's just a prank, yo!" scene is.. mildly infuriating, but props for the buildup prior; really great acting from Capaldi and Mackie (especially the fake-out regeneration).

My least favourite part of the three episodes. However some things I do like are the Monks manipulating the Earth and people. The whole scenario of propaganda being used as a way to weaponise people who voice against the oppression of the Monks is interesting too. That scene with the woman being arrested and everyone worshipping the monks reminds me so much of Series 3 when The Doctor, Martha and Jack saw everyone praising the Master and falling of his lies as he used a similar means of manipulation and hypnotism towards the humans which led to The Doctor being on the run. Even when Martha's parents got arrested for trying to warn Martha about the lies feels very parallel to the scene that we see here. The whole discussion that Bill and The Doctor have on the ship is also a great highlight. The acting from Mackie and Peter is great. But I agree with you that it's also annoying to having to put Bill through all that agony only to trick her and laugh it off which felt like an emotional manipulation even with the fake regeneration. But I also liked how Bill acknowledged how people have the power to conquer and stop corrupted governs and leaders if they worked together but you made a good point about the ideals of every human being too different and varied that it's often a struggle for people to combine their efforts together to stop greater evil. I liked all those elements but the resolution kinda spoils this episode for me a bit. Once again, they have to do the power of love resolution which is really repetitive and annoying because it's overused too often in the Moffat era for my liking. Way too saturated of a conclusion. Although I did like that they fought back against the Monks. Those were some decent moments.
