Great finale, my favorite next to the season 4 finale! I had the same reaction as you during the Fiona-Frank scene. The acting was on point this episode. I really enjoyed this season. Now, I don't remember that much from season 8 and 9 except for major plot points so it will be fun to go through it again with you.

This is my probably my favorite episode from S7. The parallels and Ouroboros imagery is so strong in this one. I guess the first parallel that stands out to me in this season was with Fiona and Liam. Back in S4, we saw Robbie leave behind that bag of coke. At the time, Fiona was tempted to keep it. As we know, she does keep it which eventually causes her entire world to come crashing down around her, bringing her to her lowest moment in the show. This time, she is once again presented with this temptation. She can choose to keep her share of the meth as well as Liam's; however, this time she doesn't, she outright rejects it. In this season, Fiona is finally choosing to not eat her own tail and walking down that path of self-improvement. Another smaller parallel was between Fiona and Frank. In the very first episode of S1, we saw Frank passed out on the floor, and we see Fiona taking care of him. In this episode, Frank is once again passed out in his own vomit, and Fiona shows just the slightest bit of care for him when he's out. Another parallel I noticed was the Ian and Carl one. Back in S1-S3, we saw Ian as this ambitious teen doing ROTC training with dreams of getting into West Point. As we know, his plans don't go quite the way they do, yet despite everything that has happened he still managed to pick himself up and is now an EMT. Carl is following Ian's footsteps, he's now in military school, has become overall disciplined, is waking up early, going out on runs. etc. It was really cool to have that one scene of them together going for a morning run, and it was even cooler to see this kind of parallel and cycle between the two of them. Lip and Frank also parallel one another in this episode. As we found out, Frank was a college student who actually had the potential to really excel and make something of himself. He had actual opportunities and was doing internships. Obviously, we know what happens to Frank and how it didn't turn out exactly what he had planned. For Lip this season, we saw him have a lot of these internships, we saw him in college, but we also see him struggling to cope with stress, and we see how his alcoholism has limited him in reaching his full potential. I really like the end of this episode of that scene of him entering AA. Back in S1 or S2, Lip told the rest of the family that he didn't want to be the golden goose of the family. He was constantly told by others that he was going to change the world, become "master of the universe" as Kev said at one point. In all his life, everyone has put Lip on a pedestal and defined success as him making some significant change in his lifetime. In this AA scene, Lip finally is able to spell out his own definition of success. In this scene., Lip's definition of success is just trying to get back on his feet and admitting that he needs help, even if he is considered to be a boy genius. Another parallel I noticed was Debbie and Fiona. It's interesting you point out Debbie holding onto Liam like that during that one scene, but it kind of reminded me of all the times Fiona would protectively hug all of them. This season, we saw Debbie go from this highly dependent teenager to someone who is slowly becoming more mature and responsible. We see her starting to think about Franny's future. And finally Frank. Didn't mention this in most of my comments, but Frank is also having his own Ouroboros moment. As we found out, Monica was the one who changed him. All that love he had always went to Monica, but it rarely ever showed with his kids. Now that Monica is gone, Frank is at his own crossroads. Will he continue down that hedonistic path of narcissm and self-indulgence, or will he take a different path and turn over a new leaf? In the end, a lot of these characters this season were finally forced to confront their own vices and flaws that often kept them in this cycle of chaos. They all have reached a crossroads at this point and it's up to them to decide whether they keep eating their own tail or work towards self-improvement. Whether they continue that cycle or walk down a new path we will just have to wait and see in thee next season.

Things happen in s8, but i doubt that you will be compelled or entertained by them
