Good timing!! A Christmas episode on Christmas Day! Almost like you planned it! 😂😍

DeathSwitch

Such a good Christmas ep! Ian McKellen was the voice of the Great Intelligence & to have Richard E Grant there too was cool. Such a great series

What is going to be your next doctor who full length reaction? Are you further ahead and I just didn't see the posts?

Amy Chlebus

Weird. I can't find it. 🤔

Amy Chlebus

Thank you! Merry Christmas!

Andrea Dcosta

Waiting for TVD reactions!! Wishing you and all at home Merry Christmas :) Happy Holidays!!

Anatol

Merry Christmas and thanks for your great reactions!

Ian Smith

The Great Intelligence was another Classic Who villain (although not a particularly significant or well remembered one) being resurrected for the modern series. The new TARDIS interior came about because of a move to a larger studio.

Toby Harmon

Merry Christmas!!! How can she be three different people? That's the mystery... 😉

One thing I have noticed seeing reactions to this episode is that there are class cues that American viewers don't pi ck up on as instinctively as Brit viewers : the 'secret voice' is as you point out cockney - but the two different accents are indicators of two entirely separate social classes: a bar maid with a working class cockney accent and a governess (a very high class servant) with a middle/upper class accent

Everything will be explained soon! Loved the reaction and Merry Christmas 😁

Anatol

Run you clever OtherBoy, and remember! :)

Daryl

Merry Christmas. A fav crimbo special of mine. Mostly because the continuation of the Smith / Coleman on screen chemistry that I thought jumped out the screen both times.

My favorite companion is finally here. I became a patron not too long ago just out of excitement for you to get to Clara and the Clara era :). I'm so glad you like Jenna Coleman's performance. She's so great at nuanced emotional acting. She will have a lot of great material to work with in future episodes and I can't wait for you to see them. And don't worry, you are not supposed to understand at this point why/how there are 2+ Claras. But it's great that you already understand how she has greatly helped the Doctor even though she's just met him. As you said, she has given him hope, has pulled him out of his depression and grief, has given him purpose when he thought he had none (or none to care about).

The Great Intelligence was a villain in two 2nd Doctor stories, one of which was set predominantly in the London Underground. There were a few minisodes that precede this Christmas special: “The Battle of Demon’s Run, Two Days Later” (that explains how Strax is alive), “The Great Detective”, and “Madam Vastra Investigates”. There is one minisode that comes between this and the next episode: “Prequel to The Bells of Saint John”.

Those minisodes were posted with The Angels Take Manhattan episode

I guess the Doctor set up the spiral staircase into the clouds thing because it suited his mood

Evan!!

Yeah you're not supposed to know why there's multiple Claras. I'll say, despite the fact Clara is my favorite Doctor Who companion, this plotline is not my favorite. If you didn't know, Jenna Coleman was announced as the new companion before Asylum of the Daleks aired, so everyone was surprised when she showed up in that episode. Of course, then she died and it was like "uhh I guess they're seeding something here maybe?" or it was like "maybe they put in her in this before she was cast as the new companion?" but now we know it was intentional seeding.

This Christmas special is definitely improvement over the last one. I actually like this special (except for the love resolution with tears ending which definitely didn't work for me). Very anti-climatic fighting scenes too. I won't say much about Clara right now but I wish they would have kept Victorian Clara as the companion as I'm not a big fan of the Clara that you meet in the next episode. I just think it would be more interesting to have a companion who wasn't from the 21st century for a change. This is my overall least favourite series of Doctor Who out of all the modern seasons purely because I don't think the writing is up to a great standard. I think you'll notice how different the second half of this series will be to the first half (which is one of my reasons why I don't like it).

otherboy

I like the modern Clara so far but yeah I was thinking it would’ve been fun to see a companion from the Victorian era experience the 21st century and beyond for the first time
