"Can you imagine if that happened now", the way this year is going don't even joke about it😂

Biscuit=cookie; Crisps=Potato Chips; Chips=French Fries.

Definitely not one of my favorites, but I really like Matt Smith's performance. I recall even when this episode aired, there were concerns about the relatively flattering depiction of Churchill the episode gives which is a bit timely considering all the discussion around him as a figure at this very moment. Really looking forward to the next episode though.

Yes, during air raids they would turn off all lights and cover windows so as not to provide any visual targets. This was before radar and GPS, so the pilots had to see their targets and where they were. The balloons are called barrage balloons, tethered with steel cables, and are there as obstacles to enemy aircraft so they can't come in low during an attack. On a lighter note, cookies are called biscuits (or more correctly, you in the US call biscuits "cookies"). Jammie Dodgers are a particular brand of biscuit, shortbread filled with raspberry or strawberry jam in the middle (And very yummy!). Churchill's line about giving a favourable reference to the Devil is almost a direct quote - remember he did form an alliance with Stalin during the war.

Yeah I was wondering about the way Churchill was portrayed cuz...I’ve heard some things😂.

I'm glad you're enjoying Matt Smith. I think this appreciation will only continue to grow with each episode. He is mad, but in the best way.

"A barrage balloon is a large unmanned tethered kite balloon used to defend ground targets against aircraft attack, by raising aloft steel cables which pose a severe collision risk to aircraft, making the attacker's approach more difficult."

Matt Smith just gets better and better, I’d give anything to get to experience this series again completely blind😂 definitely my favourite of the three doctors you’ve seen so far

Hemdian

The old man on the roof was an air raid warden. Duties of wardens included ensuring the blackout rules were followed, sounding the siren, guiding civilians to safety, clearing the area around unexploded bombs, etc. Barrage balloons defend ground targets by raising steel cables which pose a collision risk to attacking aircraft. Cookies in Britain are called biscuits. (Fries are called chips, chips are called crisps, etc.)

No more spoilers please😭🙏🏽 I want to figure things out like that for myself

When these Daleks were revealed they got a mixed reception from the British audience, the bright colours and less metalic look seemed less intimidating. Matt Smith is by far a more interesting Doctor for me personally. David Tennant is highly regarded as one of the best Doctors (only cos people fancy him more) , but Smith seems more Alien/Fish out of water, more eccentric. Using baked goods to threaten the Daleks with, Eccleston or Tennant wouldn't have thought of that

Matt Smith would make my top five Doctors, but more interesting than David Tennant? Not sure that's arguable. 11 is more easily likeable and loveable, but he's a bit too much so, and thus less interesting. 10 was a more authentic character, more emotionally unstable, with plenty of flaws and a terrific character arc. One may not say they 'like' 10 as much as 11, and they may not enjoy watching him on screen as much, but I'm not sure what would make 11 a more 'interesting' character than 10.

You trying to get british words was so funny 😂😂😂

This is one of my least favourite Dalek stories. I just find it really boring and I dislike the new Power Ranger Dalek upgrade. I wasn't really convinced with The Doctor's anger towards them either. The resolution is a bit too cringey for my liking. I also feel quite iffy with Churchill's portrayal. But I'm looking forward to your reaction to the next episode.

I was shocked to see you enjoyed this one so much. Like you, I find the daleks overused and really don't enjoy this one. I kinda lose interest 5 minutes in as soon as I see more daleks...

Mark Ward

Highlight of the reaction was you with the biscuits, crisps, chips, cookies nonsense at the end. :D
