Very briefly, here’s the deal with regeneration. The first Doctor was played by an elderly man whose health issues forced him into retirement, but the show was so popular that the producer came up with the idea of having the Doctor change his appearance and personality. From then on, whenever an actor tired or whatever of playing the Doctor, he regenerated. There were eight Doctors before Christopher Eccleston. That’s really all you need to know. Anything else will either be answered or not answered in the many, many episodes to come. P.S. Must you fantasize about having sex with the Doctor? Really, Other Boy? Because, well, never mind. It’s all good.

I’m a gay man so I fantasize about other men in general and David Tennant is a man so... I can’t help it🤷🏽‍♂️😂 Also I’m sure Jack does the same😉

Welcome to series two.

This is the Doctors 10th Regeneration, the show started back in the 60's and to help keep things fresh (or when the actor decides to move on) the Doctor dies only to regenerate into a new body with sometimes a new personality. Timelords can only have 13 Regenerations. It allows each actor to put their own spin on the character, each Doctor has his own dress sense, approach to things, likes, dislikes but at there very core is still the same person. the classic run of show itself ended in 1989, with an american/british tv movie pilot in the mid 90's and was then brought back in 2005 which is where you started, a lot of peoiple have started from 2005 onwards

No spoilers for future eps of this series (I've not watched anything beyond Season 2 anyway, though that'll change with these reaction vids!) or old Dr Who, but the 13 incarnations thing is not necessarily set in stone. Which is good news for us, obviously! 13 incarnations (12 regenerations) was certainly what was stated back in the 70s, but I see Dr Who as being at times like a comic book world. In comic book worlds (like X-Men etc), things can happen that alter established canon in order to tell more stories. I really hope that the show is able to continue, if they do get past 13. I don't think the show would survive if they tried to put another Time Lord in there or some kind of descendant of the Doctor or something. We love our Doctor (in whatever form he takes) and a substitute just wouldn't be the same.

Welcome to series 2! I hope you enjoy this series. however I should warn you that unlike last series (which had no outright terrible story), this series does have a few clunkers. Perhaps the age old curse of the difficult second album affected this series? Whatever the case, series 2 is noticeably less consistent than series 1, but as an overall package it is still very, very enjoyable. Hope you enjoy the crazy ride this series will take you on!

The first 4 seasons get progressively better for me. I think you're going to love Tennant. He's widely regarded as the best modern era Doctor Who. Incredible range in his performances.

Series 2 is worse than series 1, but I agree aside from that. Tennant has probably got the widest range of performance out of all the actors to have played the Doctor. The only ones that come close are Tom Baker and Peter Capaldi, who are incidentally my top 3 Doctors alongside Tennant.

Incidentally, (not a big thing at all), but generally the Christmas Invasion is referred to as Season 2, Episode 0, and New Earth Season 1 , Episode 1.

otherboy

Yeah people have told me that. The service I watch from says Episode 1 starts with Christmas invasion. Weird🤔. Also, looking forward to more Buffy with you, Ashley and Sebastian!
